Inspired by discussions dears in the Ordinary Witches (not the episode!) thread - this girl got thinking. What if the power of three, four or how many you had could only be accessed through the Halliwell family line through two or three generations.
So in this instance dears - the Charmed Ones would be a combination of Grams, Patty, Prue, Piper and Phoebe or Patty's sister or Gram's sister or mother etc. where the Charmed Ones can only be three generations of witches at one time dear.
Would this make a more interesting reboot idea for Charmed than just rebooting it with three or four sisters. I have to admit dear - it *does* make a very interesting and fresh way to go about doing a new Charmed. Still keeping the same elements from the original - so I suppose dear the Charmed Ones powers could be the four elements. In most instances dears the elements are - Earth, Air, Fire and Water, but there is another element I do recall which is difficult to describe (this girl might need to research it), it is spirit. Spirit is the fifth element in some cases. Now It would be fun for this girl to try and match up the elements to one of the Halliwell women.
So I will leave it to my Cafe to discuss? I am very curious dears what you think of this and if you think it could work for a reboot series?

This post intrigued me, so instead of going to bed, I did some homework.
There is indeed a 5th element that is called Spirit. After I researched this I would have to say that Grams was that one. The following is part of what I found. Since this states that this element holds all of the others together, I had to think of her. "The ideas of the classical elements were used to help explain the concepts and properties of matter along with the composition of the universe. The four classical elements consist of earth, air, fire and water. Each element corresponds to a particular state of matter. Earth would indicate solid matter, air would be equivalent to gaseous form, fire equals plasma, and water represents liquid form. "
The fifth element is known as quintessence or ether. It is the intangible element that seems to hold all the others together.
There is more to the above and if you like I will PM you the link.
Since I am unable to connect the girls elements directly to their birth dates I decided to do so by actions and charactor instead.
Prue to me is first and foremost (Fire). It is the first sign of the zodiac and Aries is the primal fire that both creates and destroys. Prue once stated that she was a Scorpio but actually Shannen is an Aries as I am.
Piper I see as (Earth). She was the first to become a mother. She was talented at cooking and was knowledgeable in the world of herbs. I recall her teaching Paige in that department. She loved her home and was the one that never left.
Phoebe for one silly reason I decided was (Water), due to her experience as a mermaid. Once she had taken to the sea she really didn't want to return but swim with the oceans inhabitants collecting shinny things.
Paige with her ability to orb to me was (Air). Though Prue could astral project the distance was limited. Paige could travel just about anywhere through time and space so it seemed to fit.
This left Patty out of the mix, so I dug a little deeper, and in doing so I ran into the 6th sense. I didn't think at first it would fit, but ..... you tell me.
I found a chart regarding the 5 elements:
Smell ......... Absolute Earth Element ------ Piper sense of smell with cooking and herbs
Taste ......... Absolute Water Element ----- (Not sure about this one) Unless you include she was the one that wasn't afraid to taste all the life could offer.
Sight .......... Absolute Fire Element ------ Prue with astral projection could see where she was not.
Touch ........ Absolute Air Element ------ Paige's touch can heal
Sound ....... Absolute Ether Element ------ The glue that holds things together
Patty to me being a mother of The Charmed One's must have had an amazing and very active 6th sense. Examples: The girls travel back to her time period. She doesn't know them but still she is moved to get them out of jail. When Piper is having mothering problems she writes in the BOS, "Some times babies just have to cry." She was the one that saved Prue from drowning. I'm sure there are many other times she just knew, but it's late and my memory is failing. The following gives some information. The world is made from the five Absolute Cosmic Principles These Cosmic Principles cannot be seen but make up all of creation. When our sixth sense gets activated, we begin to perceive these Absolute Cosmic Principles progressively, beginning from the most gross to the most subtle. Thus, we are able to perceive them in the order of the Absolute Earth (Pruthvī), Water (Āpa), Fire (Tēj), Air (Vāyu) and Ether (Ākāsh) elements through our subtle-sense of smell, taste, vision, touch and sound respectively.
In retrospect if I had been writing for this show I would have had a lot of fun doing the research.

I'd just like to make a note of their Zodiac signs, Paige and Piper are both Leo's and Phoebe and Prue are both Scorpio's. I thought maybe you could assign an element to each sister based off their signs, but in discovering that at least two sisters share the same sign I find it very interesting, it could explain why each duo butts heads a lot of the time, they're too similar!

I have thought at times that it would've been interesting if the Power of Three have been spread across three generations, for instance Penny, Patty and Prue. The Power of Three relies on unity and working in equal harmony which is much easy to achieve between a sisterly relationship than between a grandmother, mother and grandchild. Thus, it would've thrown up some compelling dilemmas and points of conflict between the three women as it would challenge the traditional family dynamic, especially concerning Grams' and Patty's authority over Prue.

That's one of the reasons I didn't think I could make this work as the girls don't each have their own element. Though a friend of mine who is way to deep into this told me that your sun sign is only part of it. The girls would have to be charted to really get the big picture. For example, Prue might have more planets in one of the 12 houses that could bring about more fire, and so on and so forth.

Sorry if this is off target but you post got me to thinking about the Triquetra/Trinity Knot. I remembered something about (Grandmother, mother, daughter) being connected to the symbol. When I looked it up I found the following as to what the symbol means depending on what you believe. Oddly enough it is used by both Christians and Pagens. Spirit, Mind, Body Father, Son, Holy Ghost Mother, Father, Child Past, Present, Future Power, Intellect, Love Creator, Destroyer, Sustainer Creation, Preservation, Destruction Thought, Feeling, Emotion Mother, Maiden, Crone Other world, Mortal world, Celestial world So if you think about it Penny, Patty and Prue also form a triangle with some possible power/mystery attached.

Oh man, What a great and interesting set-up. Having the Charmed Ones not being sisters does add an element and direction that a true reboot could and should take. Yes the Zodiac signs is an issue. But if a reboot or story was done, Why not just change some of the sisters. Like does the zodiac signs really match each sister properly. I really doubt those writers really thought properly and Piper's birthday on the show aired in January when the show originally aired.
But it could add an interesting element to have one set of sisters among this charmed ones unit being the same.
Perhaps Grams could be the glue to hold them together and we could say have Patty and her sister, and then a combination of Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige as the other two. That way the power of three still spread's through three generations still. But then it might feel crowded. As much as Piper is my favorite sister. Even I admit Prue and Phoebe would make a better pair than say Prue and Piper. Especially the conflict the two had on the series.

The power of the sisters is a symbol of the unity of a family, a unity of equals, as happens between sisters and not between mother and daughter or aunt and niece The powers related to the elements are the basis of many Japanese anime or manga: I loved the Knights of the Zodiac when I was a little girl The triquetra symbolizes the triple goddess of the Celts, in general, the three predominant natural forces: earth, air and water. On a more spiritual level, it indicates the existence of three degrees of evolution: life, death and rebirth Within the Christian symbolic, the Triquetra is an expression of the divine Trinity There were found picturess of this emblem belonging to very different eras and even locations: on Mycenaean tableware, on the shields of warriors painted on greek pottery and on the faces of the coins of several cities of Asia Minor as Thebes in Troas and other cities of Lycia, all dating from the sixth to the fourth century. B.C In pre Achaean mythology of southern Europe, the Triquetra meant the White Goddess with her three requirements: protection - Prue - tenderness- Piper - intuition - Phoebe It is the balance between the sisters - the center of the triquetra represents perfection - that creates the Power of Three: I think it was a fascinating idea, original in the panorama of the usual superheroes

Having just re-watched season 1 episode 3 I found something that puts Phoebe firmly in the water when daddy dearest says that she swam before she could walk.
I found a chart regarding the 5 elements:
Smell ......... Absolute Earth Element ------ Piper-sense of smell with cooking and herbs
Taste ......... Absolute Water Element ----- Phoebe-a water baby swimming before she could walk Sight .......... Absolute Fire Element ------ Prue-with astral projection could see where she was not.
Touch ........ Absolute Air Element ------ Paige's-touch can heal
Sound ....... Absolute Ether Element ------ The glue that holds things together

Actually Piper is a Gemini. Paige is the only Leo while both Prue and Phoebe are Scorpio's but it'll interesting to see a proposed show where the Charmed Ones are made up of 3 different generations. I'll read that! But Piper's Birthay is August 7th. That makes her a Leo. But that's never verified in the show - only in the Charmed Wiki, which you can trust as far as you can throw the Manor! This includes Paige since we don't know if the day she was given to Sr. Agnes was actually her birthday or if Sam and Patty kept her for a few days. I'm sure I also saw something else that proved that Piper is a Gemini, so if it contradicts your research, it proves my point - we truly don't know any of the birthdays because Charmed and consistency are mutually exclusive.

As soon as you take away the idea of sisterhood, you take away what made Charmed different than most other witch shows and was what I found most appealing. If you took that away, I sincerely don't think I would enjoy the show.

If one of the sisters had three daughters who were each born under the proper sign, not necessarily the same as their mother, but so their sign fit their power and they had the proper three powers, then I think that the Triquetra would also fit them and they would also be Charmed.
