I really love her character and personally I love the first 5 seasons of the show. Piper and Phoebe had huge storylines and Paige kinda took a backseat. I think it would've been great if they explored her alcohol addiction she briefly mentioned that one time. It would've been a great story arc for her in season 6 alongside the whole Chris thing. I think they were kinda hinting at it with "A Wrong Day's Journey into Right" where she was feeling worn out and had to conjure a Mr. Right to free herself. I think with Phoebe losing her powers and Piper being pregnant in season 6, Paige had to bare a lot of responsibilities and it would've been cool to see a substance abuse/relapse storyline in Charmed. Amid all the chaos in season 6 I feel like it would've been a strong arc for Paige. Especially if they explored how it would affect her individual powers (imagine all the wonky orbing ) and the power of three. What do you guys think? Was this a missed opportunity? I feel like it would've made season 6 a stronger season in general. Plus I could see how after she broke up with Richard for feeding into his addiction that she would cast some spell and it would backfire and send her spiralling down into a relapse.

I agree totally, Paige is my favorite character, they could have done so much more with her. But past season four all the producers were interested in were love interests and fancy demon of the week taking precedence over any kind of character growth. It feels like they just subtly mentioned Paige's "addiction" to try and make her look edgy and to have the viewers be more sympathetic towards her when she first appeared, but then it never came up again. Seeing a sister struggle with something like that, seeing how it would interfere with saving innocents would have been cool, and it maybe also would have bought them closer together helping Paige through it.

They also could have touched more on Paige's desire to travel and not be tied down. In one episode she went from leaving her responsibilities with Piper and Phoebe and wanting to travel with Glen to moving in with her sisters after they showed they had no respect for her privacy. Maybe her past alcoholism could tie in with this, like she's stressed that she's tied down with work and witch duties and her new family, so she starts drinking again to cope. I wouldn't want to see her suffering, but it would make it a bit more realistic and more sister-focused, especially if Piper and Phoebe were the ones to help her through it.

In one of the threads were we we tried to come up with a top 10 list for a Paige marathon. Ruth pointed out, that we didn't have as many Paige centric episodes as her sisters did. So I do feel Paige wasn't given more storylines or enough.
I still think her story was very strong in season 4, but they completely went backwards with her leaving her social worker job. They made her adopted family non existent. Why did they bother bringing back her father Sam only for him to disappear. Her ties to her old life were all gone, and left with the impression she always grew up with Piper and Phoebe.
I really like the story of Paige going back to drinking again, because I find it one of the most honest storylines and again it would allow her sisters to help her through it. I really do like real honest storylines with everyday struggles.

I feel like there were a lot of missed opportunities. Besides the ones already mentioned, other storylines that could’ve been explored:
-Paige being claustrophobic. How did she end up developing that fear? In the show it just came out of nowhere and suddenly disappeared.
-Is there a reason Paige was really sensitive to cases involving kids that she wants to get personally involved?
-Paige’s Uncle Dave and Aunt Julie meeting Piper and Phoebe. How do they handle their niece finding her biological family and also now that she’s a magical witch and part guardian angel.
-Victor’s reaction to Paige’s existence and Patty and Grams hiding this from him.
-Seeing more of Sam than just twice in five years. Also another visit from Paige’s parents and maybe even her Grams she loved and adored who wasn’t Penny. After season 4, it seemed like Paige seemed to have abandoned her adoptive family members since they weren’t mentioned or heard from again. Even at Paige’s fake funeral in season 8 brought no one but leprechauns.
-Inferiority complex with Prue and any abandonment issues story done better.
-A better evolution of Piper and Paige’s relationship over the seasons. While they had tons of playful moments between them, their relationship was sorely missing memorable bonding moments after season 4.
-Paige continuing to help Cole after everyone else pretty much abandons him as a lost cause at the end of the Sympathy for a Demon episode.
-Something related to the Power of Three itself. Was the prophecy meant for Prue of Paige? Would there be some magical repercussions if it wasn’t meant for Paige? What are Melinda Warren’s thoughts on this?

I've just recently watched Charmed Again, and I was wondering why Paige's adoptive family is never mentioned again. It could be that she just called her uncle to ask about the church she was left at and they aren't that close, but it didn't seem that way. If you listen closely, you can hear the man say something like "You know your aunt," indicating that Paige is close to them.
I can understand not mentioning at least her aunt and uncle that much at the beginning, but you'd think they'd come up in conversation at least a few times over the course of the series.

There's really no other logical explanation why they weren't at her wedding or her "funeral".

Kern could of had Paige mention her family or had off-screen meetings with them. But that wasn't what he thought was important. He wanted Prue gone and dusted and Paige feeling like she was around the whole time. Why else was her introduced rushed. The same way dears, Prue's memory was barelt thought about after season 4 or 5 or her anniversary of her death being seen. But Craig your right. We barely explored much about her family and they didn't do much with Sam. He wasn't much apart of her life anyways. I am more concerned about her adopted family who knew her all her life over a father that she barely knew dear. But Paige's social working job was a true asset to the show. But they didn't think it was important enough.

I can understand not mentioning at least her aunt and uncle that much at the beginning, but you'd think they'd come up in conversation at least a few times over the course of the series. Possible scenario behind the disappearing Uncle and Aunt: -Paige secretly 'borrowed' Leo's whitelighter dust and decided to erase the memories of her existence from Uncle and Aunt's mind or: -Paige doing so many random spells in Hell Hath no Fury resulted in not only her Aunt and Uncle forgetting about her, but Paige forgetting them as well. There's also Paige being like her biological father. Visiting once in a lifetime. Which makes her behavior come off as hypocritical when she accuses Sam of doing the same thing to her. And speaking of Charmed Again, I feel like we should've seen more of Sister Agnes. She must've taken care of baby Paige while searching for a good home for her. So wouldn't that kind of make her another mother to Paige? Patty and Sam must've really trusted her to hand over Paige like that. Maybe she was meant to be a whitelighter or empath in the future? Plus she knew about the existence of magic for years. And obviously didn't like Piper using her powers on her. But she could've provided emotional support to Paige and even Piper and Pheobe especially dealing with grief over Prue's death. Even if Leo was their whitelighter, he didn't seem helpful in helping Piper and Phoebe deal after Prue's death. His pep talks just didn't deliver. He blurted out the traumatic death of Paige's parents which Paige obviously wanted kept a secret. Ironically, he loyally kept Phoebe's secret about Cole being alive. He couldn't figure out what Piper was mad at and she turned into a Fury. Couldn't even sense the Source living with them until Phoebe was Queen of the Underworld. Then later on, went and gave a drunk Piper a pep talk about how we all shouldn't blame ourselves for not seeing through Cole. And that is after Piper pointed out how Paige could see and tried to tell her over and over... Seemed like Leo treated Paige's whitelighter instincts and opinions as useless in that moment to try to make himself and Piper feel better about being blind to everything. Even after Paige was proven right in spades. Not surprisingly, Piper froze him and continued seeking comfort in alcohol. While Piper was more open to sharing her problems and fears with An Ling and Paige, these sort of incidents(Paige's opinions and ideas not being respected) could easily snowball resulting in Paige wanting to move out. They tried to do moving out in Centennial Charmed but like with all Paige stories, came out of thin air and fell flat on its face. It's sort of disturbing Paige disappeared for like a whole day after orbing into another reality. She reappeared at night in her own reality yet Piper is eating ice cream without a care in the world and Phoebe seemed like she came back from work with a huge smile. Did both of them think Paige suddenly moved out after she sneezed more than 24 hours ago? Did they not even ask Leo to sense where she went before they got back to Darryl's party? Did Leo also not wonder? Especially after he knew Paige was trying to kill Cole? Or did they all assume Paige found a guy and was spending the night, morning, afternoon and night again with him? Uh..so unless they receive a message from the Underworld that says "we've kidnapped Paige and going to kill her unless you do XYZ", everyone just chills and have fun no matter Paige disappears for weeks and months? 0.o If that's their reaction to Paige’s disappearance, then it's no surprise they're totally indifferent to Paige wanting to move out. Compare this to the Ice Cream episode or the warlock trapped in painting episode or just any other episode before season 4. The sisters actually notice and wonder when someone like a sister disappears or never comes home. And the Piper wanting to move out with Leo episode actually caused disagreements and uproar. Besides the huge missed opportunities, these little opportunities were also missing when it came to Paige.

I wouldn't have hated the idea of Paige going through with moving out in Centennial Charmed. They moved her in way too early for a start, that I wouldn't have found it so wrong to do a story with her deciding to move out to find herself again. This would of been the best time to explore her family and her getting in touch with them. Maybe they could of knocked some sense into Paige to go back to her social working job. LOL

I had a bunch of random thoughts when reading through this thread:
Cyma, I completely agree about Centennial Charmed. I was surprised the first time I watched when Paige gets home and Piper's just chilling out. Sure, they could be used to situations like that at that point, but you'd think they'd at least wonder where she was a little bit.
About Paige's alcoholism: wasn't Sam drunk in the beginning of the episode where she first met him? I don't know if he was always a big drinker, but it kind of makes more sense that Paige can't drink without becoming addicted and her half sisters seem to have no problems with it.
I think Paige might have been so sensitive to child abuse cases because she was adopted and knows she could have ended up anywhere. Maybe she thinks often about how lucky she was to end up with good parents, and from her experiences at work, knows that orphaned kids can end up in difficult situations.
Leo: the more I rewatch the show and read things on this site, the more I realize just how useless whitelighters are. They portray Leo as being this awesome guide and he's really not. He senses nothing wrong with Cole and does knowingly let Piper and Prue think Cole is dead for weeks. Not to mention the whole thing about no other whitelighter coming down to help Prue and Piper after Shax's second attack. Was Leo the only one in the whole world who was capable of healing them?
Paige should have never quit her job. It was arguably the best career of any of the sisters throughout the entire series. And due to the stressful nature of her job, I can see this also playing a role in her being even more resistant to magic because she's got enough people to save already.
I would have liked if the first half of season four stretched into a whole season, and maybe the new first half could be about Paige very reluctantly getting to know her sisters and accepting magic, and then the second half being about her having a drinking problem again to cope with it taking over her life. Maybe after seeing how important Paige's career is to her, Phoebe could decide that it was her responsibility to handle most of the witch things, as she had already done in the past while her sisters worked, and that way Phoebe never has her advice column and Paige can hand off some of the witch responsibilities to her so she can continue on being a social worker. This would also be good for Piper too because while Phoebe's handling most of the witch things, she can have more of a normal life.

Unfortunately they couldn't do that because they didn't know if fans would accept Paige (if they didn't, they wouldn't like all of that time spent on her) and they didn't know if there was going to be a fifth season, so they had to get back to the "IT" Couple - the couple they thought could save Charmed - Phoebe and Cole.
It would be fun to see someone do an alternate-universe fanfic showing some of these ideas from this thread - how properly to introduce Paige and not forget about her *real* family or Prue.

I always found it very bizarre because once we get past season four. Its like Prue never existed, if someone dares mention her for even a second its only very quickly and quietly and then they act like no-one said anything. Its like Kern knows she has to be mentioned but tried to limit it as much as possible so people wouldn't remember her, as if anyone could forget a main character that spanned the whole of the first three seasons! Absolute plum of a man imo.
Paige's introduction should have been far more slow, it was like, one episode she hated her sisters and didn't want to move in, and the next episode its like "haha you defeated your past life!" and Paige just sort of goes "oh well ok then" and that's that. And then by the time we get to mid season four around the time of Charmed and Dangerous well Prue may as well have never even existed.
It was just so unrealistic, and yes I say that talking about a fantasy show, but Charmed from seasons 1-3 had always gotten one thing right, the relationships, whether they are forced or occur naturally. But Paige's integration into the Charmed Circle was rushed and just badly done.
I know Princess Phoebe and Saint Cole were the "it" couple but I would have much rather have had more emphasis on Paige, take the risk, people will either like her or not, its not like there aren't other, older characters there for people to like as well. They should have said screw it and put Paige in the spotlight for season four. I guess Kern just didn't have the balls.

I had a bunch of random thoughts when reading through this thread: Cyma, I completely agree about Centennial Charmed. I was surprised the first time I watched when Paige gets home and Piper's just chilling out. Sure, they could be used to situations like that at that point, but you'd think they'd at least wonder where she was a little bit. One disturbing theory is that Paige never really returned to her own reality. To this ice cream eating Piper, Paige was talking about moving out at the Manor rather than Darryl’s party at P3 before she sneezed and orbed off. So I suppose this reality's Paige probably ended up in the reality where her sisters are worried sick for her. But less disturbing theory, when Cole changed the past, he changed it so much that even after the spell was reversed, some things are now different in the original reality. Like Darryl never having a party at P3. So Piper stayed at home, Phoebe worked late at the office. Paige had the moving out conversation with Piper before she sneezed and orbed away and returned a few hours later downstairs. By that time, Phoebe came back from work too. But theories aside the thing is, after season 4, it feels like the sisters have a sort of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde behavior when it comes to being concerned for Paige’s safety. One episode Phoebe is weeping over accidentally beating Paige thinking she was Barbas then crushing her with hugs. The next episode, she’s waiting for Sam to heal Paige. Never mind the fact that she could just switch powers with a dying Leo or even a dying Paige and heal them both. Or Piper could tap into unborn Wyatt’s super healing powers and heal them. But nope. Only a drunk Sam who hasn’t healed anything for centuries can save Paige. It would’ve been much believable if Cole had pulled a Gideon and done something to Paige that no matter how many times the sisters tried, they failed to heal Paige. Even if they could heal Leo. Then would dragging Sam make sense. Not even attempting to heal Paige when there were plenty of whitelighter powers available and placing the responsibility of Paige’s life on Sam, that is just not cool. Another missed Paige opportunity. Yup he was drunk and puked all over Paige's new shoes the first time they met. And I think that he also may have been a drinker when he lived alone in a cabin at the lake where Patty was killed. So it makes sense if Paige inherited this from him. That makes sense. Even if she quit her job, I would've still liked to see her act more as a social worker. Take for example Christy. She had been kidnapped as a child by demons and kept with them for fifteen years. Yet there's no strong reaction from Paige like there was for the 'abusive Dad and little boy' case. Or even a mild interest to personally help Christy. Same with Chris. Paige is neither interested when she discovers he's a half-whitelighter like her. The possibility that he might be her son doesn't even cross her mind. Chris also claimed that he came back from a Titan ruled future where she died and families didn't exist. Yet Paige shows more interest in her temp jobs than trying to learn more about this dark future where she didn't exist and children didn’t have parents or vice versa. And neither is she curious or suspicious about the person who traveled back 20 years from the future just to save her. *Sigh* Missed opportunity again. Reading this, I realized an opportunity did present itself for Paige at the end of Fifth Halliwell. She has been basically shunned by her new sisters for 'hating' Cole and abandoned. Add that to the emotional torture Cole/Source put her through and the demonic powers inside her earlier, it could've given her a push to begin drinking again. And continue to do so to cope with her job, Phoebe abandoning them for being Queen of the Underworld and Piper being lost in despair. But the drinking would become a problem much later. After Cole/Source is defeated. Everything returns to normal, there’s not much to stress over. Unfortunately, Paige can’t let go of her drinking habit. I’ll speak more on this later.

Yes, they really were lazy with the healing in the Sam episode of season five, weren't they? That's part of the reason I've come to dislike whitelighters and also how powerful the Charmed Ones were, because there were often such simple solutions to everything. Then when the show writers want some drama, they have to act like there are limited options and Sam is their only solution when they had many ways to heal Paige without him.

I always felt Paige should have had a bigger and stronger presence. I wouldn't have minded watching a spinoff of just her as a whitelighter after season 8 if they had done one.
By mid season 7 after she started hearing the call of the elders and receiving charges, she had come into her own. Piper and Phoebe we're at one point even relying on her so much to carry most of the heavy lifting and fighting. She
I recall all the times she had to return to save the day when her sisters were having a hard time with the situations.
"Little box of horrors" - returning to impersonate hope and defeat Katya
"Payback is a witch" - impersonating Billie to defeat her shapeshifter demon.
There were others.
Also in season 8. "The Jug and the wrestlers" When Christy cast the spell putting them in a dream-state. Paige was the only one able to force Billie to get her out. Phoebe and piper were busy dealing with their dreams but Paige went straight for the source. Billie!
When Paige was on her honeymoon with Henry, piper and phoebe had to keep up appearances like they could handle demonic issues without her but they were obviously struggling.
They could have written an entire series based on Paige if they wanted. The only problem was that the writers took too long to get Paige to where she needed to be as a charmed one and a whitelighter and with her power development.
For one she should have been able to start healing way back in season 4. Her character development in Seasons 5 and 6 for me was way too slow.

I always thought it would have been interesting if, at the beginning of season four, The Source tempted Paige to the dark side, and that within the "window of opportunity" she chose evil, and became the true queen of the underworld.
And Piper and Phoebe would have to spend the first half of the season getting over Prue and trying to rescue this half-sister they didn't know much about. They could have spent the first 11 episodes studying Paige, learning about her life, meeting her adopted family, trying to find out who she is, and then trying to save her from The Source. Then once she is saved they work together to finally get rid of The Source.
The repurcussions from that could have been felt for the whole rest of the series, and would have set up Paige to have quite a dark but interesting backstory.

A lot of them have been popping up lately. I like it. What would also be interesting to happen is for Paige to often find creative ways to trick phoebe and piper into coming after her only for Paige to use them unknowingly to tap into the power of three for her benefit. Like to kill another powerful rival demon etc. the look on pipers face each time she finds out she's been tricked again. I could see a similar piper episode happening often like in "hell hath no furry" when she would storm out of the attic to go vanquish her sister and phoebe chasing her behind to try and talk her out of it over and over. And Cole always caught in the middle with what to do with Paige, as Paige would often mess with Cole's/Balthazar's head 😊 and taint him knowing phoebe wouldn't approve of him trying to vanquish her.

IMo, Paige'ld be the rebel one She was painted like a girl with many artistic interests, a strong dream of traveling and free relationships It makes sense she'ld get tired of her job and wished to change, less sense than she agreeded to live with her sisters Paige should carry on her life, be involved when necessary, develop a discontinuous relationship with magic and a conflicting relationship with Piper and Phoebe, maybe becoming attached more to Phoebe or to her aunt role
