I keep thinking that this sounds more like a reboot of S4-8 than S1-3 with their mother playing Prue and Mel upset by her death (sound familiar?) If that's the case, then we'd just have these three throughout the series.
It would be interesting if it's the Paige-character, the one who replaced the Prue-character and the last to join the sisters to be the one who was the first to be cast and the one the show is built around, the way Charmed was built around Shannen.
But I was *really* hoping that it would be built around all three...

There is a slight difference here, in which the sisters should be able to summon their mother or their mother's ghost. Where as with Prue, because of Shannen Doherty not allowing Charmed to use her image, we didn't see the dynamic between all 4 "relatives".
So Mel is angry Piper from Season 4? But she used to be Phoebe Season 1 - 2?
Madison is a hybrid of Prue in High School "Be Careful What You Witch For" Athletic, trying to fit in. or Piper in Season 2 wanting to be normal? She def does not sound like Phoebe, embrassing magic.
Macy in Season 4 Paige? maybe even Season 7/8. Possibly the one who embraces magic after being initially reluctant but wants her own identity separate from the Pruitt's ?
RECAP The Charmed reboot has already cast two of the three main sisters. Melonie Diaz will play Mel Pruitt, “a passionate, outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of family tragedy,” who will also be an LGBT character. Sarah Jeffery was recently cast as Madison, “a bubbly college freshman who finds witchcraft at odds with her goal of getting into a super-fun sorority.“ Ser’Darius Blain (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) is also in the fold as Galvin, the boyfriend of one of the leads. The show has yet to find an actress for the third sister, Macy.
TV Line first reported the news of Evans’ casting on Wednesday. His character, Harry, is described as “a professor, handsome, grandiose, a raconteur with an infuriating charm and a mysterious interest in the three sisters.” The report takes that last part as an indication that he will be a Whitelighter for the main characters. As a refresher, Whitelighters are a sort of “guardian angel” for good witches who protect and guide them toward their destiny in life, which could be to become Whitelighters themselves.
Deadline reports that Sarah Jeffery has been cast as Madison, “a bubbly college freshman who finds witchcraft at odds with her goal of getting into a super-fun sorority.“ She will be joining Melonie Diaz, who was recently cast as the middle sister, Mel, and Ser’Darius Blain, who plays Macy’s boyfriend. As it stands, Macy is the only leading role that hasn’t been filled yet.

Well, don't think that IF it's a reboot of S4-8 that the characters went through similar stuff that our sisters did in S1-3 - if I'm right (and it's pure speculation and I could be totally wrong) in this one, S1-3 never existed with the sisters not finding out their witches until S4. Any of them could have totally different (or totally similar) backgrounds as compared to our sisters. Biggest difference, of course, is that Madison is even younger than Paige or even S1 Phoebe.
We should start counting them as the Pruitts rather than the Halliwells - I just have troubles keeping track of who's who so I call them the "Paige-character" or the "Prue-character" or the "Cole-character" when there will probably be very little similarity between the Pruitts and the Halliwells. I call them the Pruitts since we call our Charmed Ones the Halliwells, even if Paige is a Matthews.
By a reboot of S4-8, I mean that it starts when the extra sister joins the other two after a death. But unlike Classic Charmed, the other two sisters will be as new to being witches as the new one (and I call her that since we've yet to find out if she's a full or a half. I'm hoping she's a full but am guessing she's a half. This is what will make it a reboot and totally different from Classic Charmed. Macy may end up being more like Prue than Paige, but Prue without the responsibility of raising and protecting her sisters. A combination of both would be fascinating, the same way the middle one as a combination of Prue and Piper could be interesting and the way the youngest being a combination of Piper and Phoebe could be extremely annoying.
I'm thinking that their mother is the Prue-character because she's the one who would've raised the two Pruitts, not an older sister or grandmother and the one who recently died. I'm sure we'll see the ghost of the mother as much as we saw Grams.

What I mean is would they really give them a full 22-season episode (with the writers doing all of those scripts) before it's actually picked up? No but they usually order more scripts like with the Flash before premiere. Getting more script orders doesn't guarantee a full order or an episode order at all. Only means that the network is prepared to give it a full order in case it delivers in ratings. I remember iZombie had additional scripts(the producer wrote scripts expecting a full order) for Season 2 but CW decided to give it extra 6 eps only instead of a full order causing the later half of the season 2 to have a very rushed pace due to dropped plot points and arcs. If Charmed premieres in Fall (which is very likely since it's a CBS prod) we might get news of script orders before it premieres. Midseason premiere would likely give it 13 ep order.

Am I the only know who finds it interesting that three people on the reboot are still currently attached to other shows as a regular. That all three are leaving those shows for Charmed. Maybe they all signed on thinking the reboot wont last long or all want a change. Unless they did it because this means they can be the stars on this new project than their other roles.
I find it interesting the middle sister is 33 and the oldest is 27. So Mel definitely might be more Prue and Macy more Paige the only child.
We might not suffer a whitelighter/witch story. If Rupert is 13-19 years older than the actresses playing the sisters. Not that it can stop them from still doing it.
I'll cheer if it means Harry is going to just play guide or maybe pretends to be the good guy but is bad.

None of them is attached to something at all.

Maddie Mantock as one of the new Charmed Ones? Now I'm even more sold. With the acting chops she has and paired with the brilliance of Melonie Diaz, this is going to be actually good. Madeleine has been one of those hidden gems in entertainment and was poorly used in The Tomorrow People. So, I'm happy she has this opportunity to really show of her skills. No episode has aired yet but she's already my favorite.

None of them is attached to something at all. Only Madison's actress from Shades of Blue and Harry's from his show The Man in The High Castle. But I think those shows haven't gotten new seasons confirmed. And the fact both of those new seasons are airing in 2018 while most likely filmed last year got me confused. So they just went looking for work elsewhere instead of waiting for those shows to get new season orders.

I have no idea who any of these actors is. Not a bad thing. I just cannot gauge them.
I don't think the ages of the actors means very much. If you look and act like the character, it's enough.
PLL, Troian Bellisario played Spencer at 16, 15, 22. She rocked the show and the flashbacks. And I believe she was 25ish when cast in S1. Which means she was playing 16 and 14/15 in the flashbacks.
I do think it's necessary to try to stop comparing the new sisters to the existing ones. They don't have the same personalities or birth order as the Halliwells. I don't want them to be parrallels of the Classic Charmed One. (But I love the idea of referencing to OUR show as Classic Charmed, Es. Nice going.)
Time to google these actresses.

I love Es referencing our show as Classic Charmed. Because it's true.
I have never seen Star Trek. But how do they label and call their original series to the others.

I've never heard of this actress cast as Macy. But that might not be a bad thing. But according to reading her profile, it appears she has been in other shows before from her IMDB profile, but she has been only acting since 2011, so she has at least 7 years of acting under her belt.
So Macy is going to be very down-to-earth and is very shocked when she discovers she's a witch. Reminds me of Paige a little when she was introduced.

Ah a fellow PLL watcher and fan. I have to agree Troian rocked every age that was asked of her. IMO, she really over shadowed those other girls but I really loved her. The actresses chosen has that same skill as well with the whole age thing. In terms of "Classic", I guess Classic Charmed for me is S1-3. S4-8 I'll call it vapid/colorless.

Yeah it doesn't matter. After all they cast for who fits the role regardless of age. Plenty on shows have played much younger than their real age.

If you want to watch how Melonie Diaz acts, you can watch the first episode of Room 104. It's an anthology show and she is only on the first episode. Ironically, it was the only episode of the show I've watched and it was way before she got cast in Charmed. She was pretty good in it.
