I think we all agree that Season 8 was one of the worst seasons of Charmed. What are some of the things that bother you about season 8? For me, its: 1. They made tons of budget cuts that lessened the quality of the show. 2. Despite the budget cuts, they still found money to bring three new faces on, in the form of Ivan Sergei, Kaley Cuoco, and Marnette Patterson. 3. No Prue. Couldn't they have found the money to bring her back as a ghost or something? 4. Paige and Henry's romance felt kinda rushed. They met, fell in love, and got married in what, 6-9 months?

-The episodes where they claim to be dead are horrible. -In the final episode no photo of Prue, not necessarily Shannen but why not Emmalee Thompson. Or instead of Piper when she was a kid talking to grams. Looks like Prue has been completely erased. -Want a normal life more than ever. -Paige's wedding -The triad -The magical community that fights the sisters.

Rather than the 5 things that bothered me about S8, here's the TEN things that bothered me about 'Forever Crap', I mean 'Forever Piper', I mean 'Forever Charmed' (I fixed al of them in my rewrite, "Charmed Forever'):
1. How both Piper and Billie survived that explosion at the end of "Kill Billie Vol 2" without a broken bone since neither of their powers should've been able to save them
2. Why the Hollow didn’t go out of Piper and Billie until a being of good and a being of evil said the spell on the Hollow’s box
3. How Piper and Dumain, both non-cupids, were able to use a cupid’s ring, which is only used to amplify and direct a cupid's power
3. Why we only saw Piper and Leo as old and not Phoebe, Coop, Paige or Henry
4. Why Old Piper and Old Leo in the future knew what Piper and Leo were going to do, but Wyatt and Chris had no idea and neither did S6 Chris
5. Why Patty’s idea of three generations of Halliwells tapping into the Power of Three worked, when only three [/i]sisters descended from Melinda Warren are supposed to be able to tap into the Power of Three
6. Why Grams didn’t recognize Piper from "That 70’s Episode" when she said a spell to delete it from little Prue and little Piper's memory, not from hers and Patty's.
7. Why Wyatt ever had his powers in the future, if he’d lost them to the Jenkinses as a toddler
8. Why Henry wasn’t part of the final all-generation hug and why Chris didn't hug Leo
9. How the Charmed Ones were able to write down what would happen in the future when they hadn’t lived it yet
10. How Leo, an ex-whitelighter mortal, could possibly handle magical children while trying to teach them

Only 9 episodes into season 9 so far but: 1) lack of interesting villains, huge drop off from Zankou to the revolving door of forgettable villains in season 8. 2) Kaley Cuocco's Billie character is a one dimensional fake "bad ass" with a confusing, meandering story arc. First she was their apprentice and now she only exists to find her lost sister? Also, note to Brad Kern or whoever wrote this, it is possible to make a strong, female character without having her do karate or wear leather, or do backflips while the scene explodes in fire. 3) Another awful sexism episode. Battle of the hexes was so bad (although i did laugh out loud repeatedly during the fight scenes) and ranks down there with the lady godiva episode from season 6 as a low point for Charmed. 4) PhoME is back in full force after taking a short break in season 7. 5) Agent Murphy continues the long Charmed tradition of having pointless law enforcement characters. 6) Another "dreamboat" is introduced into the story line in creepy Dex who has absolutely no connection whatsoever to the magical aspect of the show, basically a poor man's version of Jason from season 6.

One of the things that bothered me was that the show makes a big deal about Paige’s whitelighter side and helping people, yet here it seems like she would rather ditch Billie and couldn’t care less about helping Christy who was kidnapped by demons when she was seven.
It’s just insane if you compare that with how obsessed she was with helping Kyle or Richard. Or how dedicated she was helping Caroline in season 4 even when her powers stolen and Source about to attack.
Besides that, there’s bringing back the Source for 10 seconds, Hulkus Pocus episode and Triad and their 15 year long plan of pitting witches against witches so they ultimately kill each other.
If the show was trying to do rivalry situation like X-men and Brotherhood, then they already had plot and actors better than Billie, Christy and Triad in the Repo Manor episode:
Phoenix, along with Patra and Pilar, was once a slave to the Slave King, but escaped and swore revenge, making it their goal to free their people. With help from their mentor Savard, the three demons watched over the Charmed Ones for years to study their powers, personalities and their moves in hopes of mimicking their co-operation. Phoenix trained to become Phoebe Halliwell and channel her powers by injecting herself with Phoebe's blood.
Show could’ve just changed these demons into half-witch and half-demon and made them sisters. Perhaps one of them being human or raised in the human world and befriending one of the sisters or being Paige's charge.

I didn't mind the identities thing. I thought that was quiet a witchy-related thing that was going to be cool.
Its the stories around and in those episodes that sucked - Billies into (was ok), the Alice in Wonderland, Personal Gain going against Ex Libris and Morality Bites in Run Piper Run (one of the stronger episodes I guess), Dex and Phoebe, Paige becoming a cop for a day. Phoebe looking into the fireplace thinking about herself not taking responsibility again for persuading her sisters that the ID change/spell thing wasn't a good idea. The fact that Paige asks the other two how they vanquished the source before - even though she was there and did it twice. The Desperate Housewives rip off (although I liked Leo in this episode).
The Sam episode was Ok and Piper and Leo switching again. I liked Vaya Cons Leos a bit.
I just didn't know why Kaley Cucco accepted the role with the WB - such a smaller network.
It would have been cool if the show went back to its premise from Season 1. Esp as Brian Krause would have written out and Cole wasn't there or Drew Fuller.
This focus could have been on the sisterhood again but I can't really name 1 episode where it was about the sisters.

Another thing I want to add is that I'm not loving Paige this season (which is disappointing, because she has been my favorite since Prue's death).
Her constant mugging for the camera, even at especially inappropriate times (such as when Billie and her parents are having a tearful embrace at the end of "Mr. and Mrs. Witch") is becoming more and more noticeable, to the further detriment of the show's quality. I just talked about this episode with the Crone the other day, but a really wonderful moment for me in season 1 was when Prue and Phoebe have a tender moment watching a mother reunite with her lost daughter. No one ruined that scene by snickering in the background. And then in season 4, Paige herself goes back to the past and gets a chance to tell her parents how much they mean to her, before they die in that car accident, and it's really an emotionally devastating scene to watch, you can't help but feel horrible for poor Paige. Rose McGowan's moving performance and the serious tone of her scenes with her parents are perfectly done.
Fastforward to season 8 and Paige apparently now has the sensitivity of a turnip. WTH??? I really feel Rose McGowan and the others owed it to the fans of the show to give it the old college try one last time, before moving on with their careers. Instead, it almost looks like they feel Charmed is now beneath them which is really disappointing.

You can definitely tell that Rose was NOT happy to be there. Such a shame because the way her character was written as compared to both Piper and Phoebe, she really should've shone - and she didn't.

Hi Esmeralda, wasn't Billie supposed to be her charge? She was introduced as her whitelighter and then disappears and leaves the mentoring role to Phoebe. I'm glad Paige found a nice, handsome guy like Henry, but i wanted her to have a better story arc in her final season. P.S. The other thing about season 8 is I honestly can't name a single good episode 11 episodes into the season. That's never happened for me before. Even seasons 5 and 6 had some decent episodes towards the beginning of their respective seasons before they went off the rails. Once i'm done watching season 8 i want to go back and watch season 1 all over again so i can get this bad taste out of my mouth. It will be a welcome change to bring some positivity to the board after all the bellyaching on my part lol.

It's so sad to hear the cast was just phoning it in. Looks like I missed out on nothing having still never finished S8 in full but two episodes. They were no longer my sisters or ones I could root for.
Rose strikes me as already bored once she's about done in S5. She's a movie actress who is used to only working on one project for six to eight month and moving on. I never got why they didn't hire a television actress. You can tell she never wanted to be there as the show went on.
It's why I only own S1-5 and 7 on DVD.

I could be wrong but I thought i heard Jennifer Love Hewitt was considered for the role of Paige?? Maybe she would have been a better choice given Rose's apparent exhaustion with all things Charmed by the final few seasons. I saw Love Hewitt in the Ghost Whisperer and she was ok there, although I gave up on that show after the first season because of its repetitive nature.

Rose thought the series would only last one more season (S4-don't we wish!) and she cried each time it was renewed. I wish she could've been more professional and play her part properly.

I love GW and loved the way Jennifer played Melinda and how she helped innocents. I can totally see her playing Paige just as well if not better than Rose. She'd not grow tired of the role given she was a television actress. Rose thought the series would only last one more season (S4-don't we wish!) and she cried each time it was renewed. I wish she could've been more professional and play her part properly. Don't we wish alright. I agree, I wish she was more professional. It truly sounds like acting just was never her real interest. Judging from her interviews I have seen (before having to turn most of them off the second she bored me with her Alyssa Milano rants, hating Hollywood and conspiracy theories), she never had a passion for it and it felt like it was just a pay check to her. I can see why she quit acting. I find the other three at least were more professional in playing their parts. Especially Shannen even if she did have drama behind the scenes it never showed in her performances. She always gave 110%. I think Rose would have been happier playing a one season villain role than a five year series regular role. She seems to enjoy the bad character roles more and ones that only last one year or a few months to film like a movir. And Jennifer Love Hewitt as Paige would have been amazing. Don't we wish.

They didn't even really need Paige past season 4 anyway, given how the focus shifted from sisters to babies. They could have written Paige mostly out of the show, saying it was time for her to get to travel or focus more on social work, and only have her show up a few times a season to help with some magical situation that required the Power of Three.
Holly and Alyssa could carry the show for a while, especially if Chris was still introduced and kept people interested in his story. But perhaps it would have at least ended at season 7 this way.

She'd not grow tired of the role given she was a television actress. Exactly so! I've always thought that her name - Melinda Gordon - is what Piper's only child should've been named, especially if Leo stayed in S1 where he belonged. Without Leo, Dan would've been the perfect husband for Piper - one could give her a halfway normal life and children who were only witches like her. Especially because Jeannine Renshaw, who wrote a few episodes for Charmed was also one of the main GW writers. Rose thought the series would only last one more season (S4-don't we wish!) and she cried each time it was renewed. I wish she could've been more professional and play her part properly. Oh, Elle Em, that would've been perfect! If I were Paige, I'd leave for the most part too. She was written as basically an adult orphan who was desperate for a family, so I get why she stayed. But putting myself in her shoes, after one crazy year with my biological family, I'd be ready for a little distance. From my perspective, one year isn't enough to get caught up in all their drama and be there to help raise my new sister's kids. Maybe it's just me, but I'd need to know someone a lot longer than that before deciding to stick with them long term. Either that, or they should have reversed her bond with her sisters, making her living on her own and being independent from them until at least season 5, and then growing closer after that. Even though they went through a lot of emotional things together, I can't see them being so close after season 4 that Paige would quit her job and hang around the house all day, letting them support her (even if she was studying magic).

Paige and Henry getting married after knowing each other for about 3 weeks? I really like the Henry character but that's way too quick. The moment i saw the fussy British butler guy i knew his only purpose was to give Henry a reason to propose. I understand it's the final season and everyone is in a rush to get married but that seems totally crazy.

One other thing, first there was that weird transition from Leo running Magic School to the demons being in complete control. But then in "Generation Hex", two students (i'll call them the bobbsey twins) show up at the Charmed ones doorstep saying there's a demon that escaped from magic school and needs to be vanquished. How did they know that? Did the demon come looking for them? or are there still students at magic school? Must be hard to focus on honing your magic skills when there are demons running wild at the school. That scene confused me.

Paige and Henry easily could've been engaged in season 8 and then either shown to have got married in the comics or had their wedding as part of the flash forward at the end.
