Since we're on the subject of careers for the sisters, what do you think would be the perfect career for Prue? I think her perfect career would be working at an auction house. She seems to have a taste for expensive and/or nice things: fancy sports cars, pretty shoes and jewelry, nice clothing, etc. She also seems like she's more of a girly girl, compared to her sisters. Working at an auction house seems like it would provide her with the kind of lifestyle she wanted, while also giving her an excuse to wear those nice pieces of clothing, jewelry, and shoes, because they would expect employees to be dressed smartly. I can also see her being a lawyer or maybe a manager at an upscale boutique for those same reasons. I never really saw her being a professional photographer. Her becoming a professional photographer seemed like it came out of nowhere.

I loved her auction house career. She seemed to enjoy it too, just not the overly long hours. The professional 9-5 life suited her, both with her more traditional personality and, as zoeysmom said, matched with her seemingly expensive tastes. I could also see her being a lawyer of some kind, or just working in any sort of corporate environment.

I think that rather than working at the auction house, she'd buy and own it. I can see her traveling all over looking for items to buy and sell. It just fit her.
I'd hope she'd also do her photography as a hobby, but just a hobby, never a career - it just didn't seem to fit her. I could see that for Phoebe or Paige instead.

I would have preferred it if she had worked at Bucklands and then working her way up to purchasing the auction house. I can also see her travelling all around California looking for artefacts. Paige being a photographer was just perfect for her, since she was already creative with painting and I believe that would have been the perfect progression for her.

That would make more sense to me than her being a professional photographer.

The Museum/Bucklands life is so much more Prue than 415. I think she loves photography but it was an escape to try to be more laid back and not as tied down.

I don't know why they suddenly went with this idea that Prue only started working at the auction house to financially support the family and that she never really liked it, because I really think she enjoyed her job and was really good at it, too.

I agree with this, she fought for that job, the idea that she hates that job is completely pathetic and definitely out of character for Prue, she loved the professional life, like Esmeralda suggested and I agree with, I could also see her travelling the world purchasing items for the Auction House bringing it to the 21st century. And Photography was out of nowhere as well, she did it in her past life but didn't show an interest until she was told that, it makes zero sense that someone like Prue would give up a stable career to pursue something she was only interested in for a day.

Well we know that it was an interest she had when she was a teenager so it wasnt something she just grew interested in when finding out about her past life.
But Prue definitely loved history and artifacts. It never made sense to be pushed to for a more stable job and you go towards being a curator? That's hardly stable, she had to bust her ass for commission. If she was pushed towards a more stable career it would've been accounting.

I think it would've not felt so sudden and out of the blue, if they had Prue show an interest in photography prior. Like an episode in S1, where its mentioned she was interested in it as a hobby or something. Could have even had Prue taking a photo using a camera in S1.
Otherwise. It never fit her character. If they insisted on her quitting Bucklands, why not have her return to the Museum she used to work at. Especially if Roger was no longer the owner/boss.

Something like that is definitely not unrealistic, but the timing in the show was. It never really made sense to me how Prue could switch to being a professional photographer in a matter of 2 episodes (I'm just guessing), when we never saw her do it before. I just imagine that if you go back to your teenage hobby in your early thirties, after 10+ years of doing other things, it would take you months of practice to "get back into it". We're all different though, so who's to say. I think it would've not felt so sudden and out of the blue, if they had Prue show an interest in photography prior. Definitely. Or maybe if her job at the Museum or at Buckland's included photography somehow. Wasn't there an episode in season 1 where she was taking pictures of some auction items? If I remember correctly.

If I remember correctly. From a writing perspective yeah it was hella rushed. From a character perspective it was something she was good at as a teen, put on a pause and just went back to picking up. Her being any type of high profile photographer getting decent money was a stretch. Id be interested to see what they did with that later in the series. Prue being a photographer, Piper a club owner, and Phoebe an advice columnist for a paper....those are 3 things that go together very well.

I agree, it seemed a bit rushed. I don't remember her having an interest in photography before quitting, and while she obviously could have picked it up as a hobby as a teenager, it seems like the kind of thing that would've fallen by the wayside after getting a full-time job and especially after Grams got sick and then the sisters came into their powers. It seems like she wouldn't have had a lot of of extra time for her hobbies because of her responsibilities, so she would've been kind of rusty and needed time to get hone her skills again.

I think seeing her future in Mortality Bites had a negative impact on her, she says: If I die, my tombstone will read: Here lies Prue, she worked hard. You can see how hurt and horrified she is because of how her life turned out, no partner, no children, firing people and belittling people. This isn’t who Prue is, she states she’d be a great mother one day and wants love. I think leaving Bucklands was really healthy for her, she actively wanted to change her future for the better and picked up a passion she followed as a young person. I personally love it!

I do think Prue quitting Bucklands made sense story-wise given where she was going and what she saw in her future, but her going into Photography felt off to me. I don't know why, it just didn't feel like something her character would be interested in. Sure as a hobby, but they should've found something else for her character to transition into as a new career.
It's interesting how S2 changed both Prue and Piper's careers. Piper's passion had been clearly set-up from day 1 that she loves to cook, but changed to her running a club in S2. I don't know why they didn't just have Piper start a small business that wasn't a restaurant like a food truck or some catering. P3 did nothing for Piper's character in the long-run, other than promote bands through the show.

But yeah, the photographer career pathway was a bit weird and came out of no where. Probably not a career that I would have picked for Prue but you know, what can you do? I do think with Piper, they really should of focused on her trying to either open a catering business or a restaurant as cooking was a passion and she just gave it up in S2 and only re-approached it in the comics which is a little sad.
