That just wouldn't work. Fans won't accept other actresses playing Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and/or Paige. SD, HMC, AM, and RM own those roles and rule the manor!

A Charmed movie would be fabulous indeed, like most of the posts before me have said it would not be a success, only those who are 'die hard' fans would be interested in watching the movie. It would be setting itself up for failure if they were ever to do one.
Of course i'm biased i would love there to be a Charmed movie.

There are essentially three things that would need to be done in order for there to ever be a Charmed movie.
1. Write a script so good that it's not just meant for Charmed fans. It should be open enough that anyone can watch it and understand it without having to know about the history over the eight seasons.
2. Get all the rights. I'm assuming this would be pretty difficult.
3. Get all the actors back. This would be the most daunting task of them all.

WT, et al: The reason I proposed that idea, which is just one of many possibilities (another being that nothing ever happens with Charmed again, but hopefully that won't be the case), is because that's often what has happened in the past. Take the Avengers. It took an enormous amount of time to do a movie and it was a very popular show, while it lasted. Of course, the movie was horrible, but at least they made it.
If either a spinoff or a movie, TV or big screen, gets the attention of the right people, then it would need to happen within the next few years. My point was, if it doesn't happen then, we may all have to wait quite some time, until bringing back Charmed is thought of as a "cool" idea. Personally, right now is good as there has never been so much interest in the supernatural, alternative religions (like Wicca), then ever before. You have shows like Ghosthunters, Supernatural, Hex (which is ending this saturday after only two seasons), Blood Ties, etc. I'm sure there are more, but I just can't bring them to mind. If someone does not take advantage of this period of interest, then it may be a while before the pendulum of interest swings back, once it swings away. There are lots of good ideas for scripts out there and there are many wany it could go. For example, the future with adult Wyatt and Chris (with a slew of younger Charmed cousins), starting again with a new cast (as much as we'd not like to see that happen), going back in time to when the sisters were little (and had powers - before they were bound and forgot about them), same cast, just a few years into the future (though it's not sure who they would be fighting), and I'm sure there are more from those with better imaginations than myself.
These things don't just happen on their own. You need a Constance Burge or Brad Kern type to develop an idea, a script, and sell it to a studio. Star Trek had Gene Roddenberry to push things towards a movie (until he past away, but there were many others to carry on the movies and as long as they were making money, they made more movies and TV shows). Now Charmed does have a loyal following, but not in the same numbers as ST. The trick will be to convince a studio they can make money on this. Personally, I think, with sales of DVDs and such, it's a no brainer. You just have to find someone in the land of Hollywood, who is interested in making this their own project.
Personally, I think SD or HMC could pull it off, but SD is busy with other projects and HMC is busy raising her family.

Like I said, a movie would be cool, but they would be stretching it too far, and if they did do a movie at all it would prolly only be a t.v movie

I guess I'm confused as to where you got this artificial timeframe for when a Charmed movie could be produced?
We're not talking about a regular TV series...we're talking about a movie or a miniseries.
Why would it matter whether it was produced in 2008, 2014, or 2020?
I don't see how you can be so certain that the sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural genre will wane after X number of years. In fact, I'd wager the opposite.

The supernatural is a very popular concept nowadays in popular culture. Mind you, after Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered supernatural themed shows have been popping up everywhere because people know about the attraction to it.
With the sudden boom of reality television shows, the supernatural even finds a place in that market.
The paranormal even remains a popular topic for many movies. If you think about it, even superhero movies could be considered supernatural.
Of course Charmed would have a place back in television (mind you, the TV movie wouldn't neccessarily have to be on the CW). It would also have a place in theatres... just as long as it wasn't marketed too much as a "Charmed continuation".

WT: My timeframes are just my own opinion of how I envision the way any spin off or movie might happen. I could be totally wrong, but that's not the point, being wrong or right about this. My thinking (my opinion) for why such a project would happen either within a few years or not for over a decade has to do with what we've seen happen with remakes (of movies or TV shows) to date. Angel, for example, followed on the heels of Buffy (or were they even on at the same time, as Buffy wound down), the first Star Trek TV series spin off took 19 years to appear after the original ended, although there were the movies, with the original cast, with the first happening some 11 years after the show ended. The Bionic Woman is the most recently scheduled such remade (not spinoff) show. Remakes of TV shows into movies, like the Hulk, Batman, and Superman, for example, have taken anywhere from 10 to over 40 years to see daylight.
So, what I'm supposing is simply based on Hollywood's history of doing remakes and spinoffs. If over 10 years goes by before someone thinks Charmed would make a good movie, then they may do a remake (start over, like the Bionic Woman) with a new cast. Whereas, if such a project, show or movie (TV or Big Screen) happens within the next few years, we could see the cast reunited. It's that middle ground, like five to ten years from now in which I believe nothing will happen. The reason I believe this is because the current interest in the the Supernatural and paranormal (which really got started with movies like Poltergiest), will fade for a while as some new interest takes the lead. Then, it will resurrect itself, as all things do in Hollywood, but not before enough time has past for it to be cool again.
This is my reasoning, which I'm sure there are some flaws (I don't pretend to believe it's perfect) and there are probably examples where my timelines don't hold up. I think they hold up, in general, but not all the time.
If you say I'm not correct, you're probably right, for some cases. I'm just looking at the bigger picture and how long it typically takes for a remake to be made, TV or Movie (or a movie about a TV show or vice versa).

Spiritkas, I guess what confuses me most about your theory is that, as it's been discussed at length here, it's doubtful that AM, RM, and HMC would want to do any type of Charmed project within "the next few years."
So basically, what you're saying is that it will probably be more than a decade from now before any Charmed-related script can realistically go into production.
Now, I do tend to agree with that particular assessment (given the likelihood that Alyssa and Rose will want to do other things for awhile)...so why cling onto the long-shot fantasy of the cast getting together in another 2-3 years for a movie, when we can assume that's pretty much not going to happen?

Pretty much. That would be a very long shot. I think the thing which could happen in the next couple of years, if at all, would be a spinoff. It might have other cast members from the show(especially if it were based on the adult children of Piper), or it might be something completely different. The one thing we do know is that it won't be based on the Billie character.

Perhaps, but it's not about that. It's about when someone in Hollywood sees the potential to make money, the timing is right, and they have a new idea to make a movie (or spin off) using the show as the basic platform.

Are you suggesting that someone saw potential profit in Underdog? Good lord. I suspect that we need to examine the tax rules in which movie making is embedded. Sometimes stupid things are done - not because they make money, but because of the tax savings they will generate.
Besides, aren't the terms profit and Hollywood mutually contradictory? As an accountant, I must say that Hollywood's accounting methods are esoteric at best. That's why it is ALWAYS bad for anyone to take a percentage of the NET profit a movie makes. There usually isn't any NET profit. Smart actors long ago figured out to take a share of the gross receipts.
As for TV, even this is complicated. Older residual arrangements did not necessarily include video and DVD rights. Actors, producers, writers, etc. figured that out soon enough.
Yes, money is made. But, it is not always obvious HOW and WHY it is being made!

I understand there are many avenues to making money off a movie or TV show. Which is why even a bad movie can make a profit, recouping its losses from the initial screening from the money made in DVD purchases, rentals, and pay per view fees. Obviously, lots of people don't mind shelling out $3.95 to rent or view a movie (via cable) that they would never shell out $8-10 to watch it in a theater. From what I just read on the IMDB site/page: imdb.com/title/tt0158552/faq there is probably no chance at all for either a CW spin off (with the Charmed Sons, due to Supernatural, something I've been saying for a long time) or a TV movie. The latter based on some comment about Buffy a lead executive made, which could be applied to Charmed or any such show. The chances of a big screen movie are even less with the cast having long gone their separate ways. So, my theory is, without any of these happening any time soon, like Underdog, Spiderman, Star Trek, The Bionic Woman, the Hulk, etc, it will be many years, probably more than a decade until we see Charmed resurrect itself (no doubt in another form vs. a reunion) in one form or another. This is based on what we've seen with many other shows. Some never come back. We will not see another MASH, for example. I just have a feeling that when the time is right the value of an idea, which was on TV for 8 years, will be used again. If it is, my hope is that they keep the same spirit alive of what the values the show portrayed and the messages and example it provided.

I don't know if many people would watch a Charmed film. Was that not what they said back in the 70s about Star Trek when they talked about that there should be a Star Trek movie ? There could be made a Charmed movie, it just has to be produced a lot more different than the show and with a lot more money than they used producing the show. The movie would propperly not make it to the bigscreen, but how it is today, it could be made as a direct-to-disk production, just like the 2 comming Stargate SG1 movies from Warner are. The main problem though is to get Holly, Alyssa and Rose to say yes to the idea of making a movie. The chance for that is werry slim.

I think they could pull it off, they have done it with other shows that made it to the big screen. Its a question of hiring the right writers, director and crew to produce it.
The writers has to be aware that it has to be an intro movie to Charmed, the story must not be able to be directed back to the show at all, something evil that this world never has seen before and 100 times more scary than anything that ever has been seen on the show, an ultimate battle between good and evil movie, where the outcome will be either survival for the world or its total destruction.
First time meet with the evil, the witches has to underestimate how extremely evil it is and realy get their behinds kicked, they have to discover that the ways they used to do it, is just not good enough Anny longer, they have to go a way that none has ever seen before, but off cause the outcome of the path they choose eventually gets the evil destroyed and the world is a safe place yet again.

There are probably a lot of potential stories for such movie, but the hard part would be getting the three of them back together. So long as such a movie is done while they're basically still young, it could work. They could do quite a lot more special effects, etc. and have the budget.
I also think it could make money, but there are so many projects out there, so many stories people want to tell, it's hard to imagine someone would pick this one up so soon.
You're correct about what they said about Star Trek, but two things are different. It took 11 years for the first ST movie to appear. Second, the fan base was somewhat larger and had a secondary SciFi base to add to it.
I wouldn't want to have to wait a decade, but that's just me.
