Thats one of the main things I liked about the later seasons. It allowed us to see to see the strong Paige who did what was right even if her sisters didn't agree. I don't know if that was her inner half-whitelighter wanting to make sure to protect the innocent at any cost or if that was her inner half-witch. It possibly could have been a combination of the two.

I'm not sure I fully buy the argument that they ran out of ideas so they needed to have more magic to fill storyline gaps. Did they get distracted by the magic and the mythology more than the Sisters and the relationships that make them human, yes. But, that doesn't mean there wasn't a plethora of stories more rooted to life that could have been expanded upon. I agree, after Cole's exit things seemed to become less centered on the relationships and more on the magic/fantasy. I think they could have focused more on Phoebe emotionally after Cole left. Whether you loved the relationship as I did or you hated it, the arc had a huge impact and I think Phoebe could have been a lot more introspective afterword. They also could have given Paige more backstory and history to explore since she lost her adoptive parents kept thinking they might explore more fear around potentially losing a sister too. I think season 5 was the perfect time to go back to basics with saving innocents. I mean especially after defeating the Source, and the underworld having no leader. It made sense to go back to rebuilding and growing the new power of three again. I think season 5 was a good season, if you look past Cole. Who shouldn't have returned at all. I actually don't hate them doing A Witch's Tail as an opener. It made sense to do a season opener episode with a lighter tone. I just could of done without Cole being apart of it, and having Phoebe dealing with Cole's loss and maybe touching more on her child. They just flat out ignored it as if it never happened.

It definitely took over their lives because as their powers progressed demons progressed significantly and they had less time to do other things. I mean think it took the power of three to defeat Rodriguez but if he appeared in season 5, they probably each could take him with no problem. They were new to their powers and weren't ready for what they would come up against and they stayed close because they could only defeat them together. I think in the later seasons they ran out of ideas so they needed to bring in more of the magical world so they could work with more material. Talking about the magical world. That was a big problem that I had. If you notice. Right after Cole's death in Centennial Charmed season 5, then all the magical community and fairy tail stories started coming out in full force. As well as all the self centeredness. Almost seemed like the writers didn't have enough ideas to write about after the entire Cole saga Seasons 3 to 5. I missed the time when Phoebe was just content with watching "Kill It Before It Dies" and horror flicks. Though Cole ruined that movie for her I liked Once Upon a Time though when the magical community was a mystery. I hated how big they got that they just show up in public and P3. Like seriously. But as I said before, they could of gone back to basics for season 5 and went to protecting the innocent against demons. It made sense after The Source being gone to go back to those times at least for a little while. Have the new bond between the new power of three strengthen and grow. Focus on Phoebe dealing with Cole's death and even her lost son. Who never got mentioned again as if that story never happened. Build up the next big threat over the coming seasons since the underworld was out of a leader. They knew they had gotten renewed for 3 more seasons after season 4. So that is what they should of done. They relied on just going pot luck on what might work and just grabbing Greek mythology ideas and seeing if they were cool. They could of gone back to using Warlocks as the enemy or why not Witch Hunters or Human villains. So much they could of done.

The original sisters didn't vanquish Rodriguez altogether that was Prue deflecting his energy ball back. They just fast forwarded time or Prue rather so that Tempus couldn't reset it meaning Rodriguez wouldn't try and kill them a fourth time then.
Your right about season 5 though being a lighter year actually. After season 4 I think it should've been Phoebe who quit work or rather took her sabatical from that instead of season 7 had Cole not come back and Paige stayed a social worker allowing Phoebe to find herself again and work through her problems of the previous year and deal with that whilst fighting the evil of the week on the side and saving innocents still like Ava and Miley the memaid episode just being a one parter till Wyatt was born and then gone back to work afterwards obviously.

You are so right Melinda, it actually should of been Phoebe who quit instead. Since Paige's job had flexible hours upon a promotion and she would be out of the office more. No reason to quit at all. Yeah your right about that maybe the mermaid episode should of been a one part episode. I actually just realised now how each premier had a pattern, with one sister running away from the others at the end of part 1 and part 2 trying to get them back. Talk about recycling with a different sister each time. I didn't find a majority of the 2-part episodes that worthy of even being a 2 part story. Most of them felt more like The WB demanded a 2-hour event and the writers just being forced to expand the story. Charmed Again, I will give you that. But the other two, not really. But again, I really like your idea of Paige keeping her job and Phoebe quitting or taking a sabbatical. It made perfect sense for her to do it then after loosing Cole and the aftermath of her child. Yes she still was pregnant, and you just can't ignore that as if it didn't happen.

I don't know if she was the best person to be giving out love advice.

Phoebe only seemed to want children so badly after seeing that vision.

While I agree Paige's character saw more development in the later seasons, the storyline with agent Brody being my favorite, I still think they could have given Rose more meat to play with for Paige That's just my opinion. I understand what you were saying. But, I still feel a lot of her character was left unexplored due to episodes about Leprechauns and magic school when they could have anchored her more as an activist and written stories about social issues. They could have given Piper more struggle as a mom who happened to be raising magical kids. (I know they touched on this, but there are a lot of issues parents face when raiding kids labelled "different" that could have easily been written into Charmed as a way of embracing being different. Also things like other female friendships and woman's nights out would have been fun to see, while trying to keep the Charmed life concealed. I still believe Phoebe needed more time to process the way Cole exited rather than throwing her in so many different stories with other guys. it would have been really cool to see her emotionally process everything, much like they did when Prue was written out - they really dealt with the emotional impact of her absence, and I think it would only have made Phoebe's final story with Coop even stronger and more believable if they had given her more time to deal with it. These are just a few or my many thoughts on the subject.

Someone else posted about the Cleaners also and if they were always around why wouldn't they stop the world from figuring out about the Charmed Ones when Piper was shot in the earlier season or in the season 7 finale when everyone was surrounding the house during the fight with Zankou?

Sometimes I feel the sisters have no right to be annoyed saving innocents and fighting demons after they had a choice to give up their powers in Witch Way Now. If stuck to their destiny, then they need to just suck it up. That quest arc for Phoebe just never should of been written. I don't know why it was so important. Let things happen naturally for her love life and baby daddy.

The ssters have right to be annoyed or happy about their life, because they have the right to live as they want as any humans
Their gifts were natural heritage and they'ld use or not, it wasn't a duty The whitelighters were revived to help, they have a duty, the witches'ld choose if risking their lives to save the innocents or not

She was always more of a formidable asset for the sisters when she was at home. If you think about it, anytime Phoebe was home and able to focus on the magical issue at hand she had always been to one to usually come up with a plan and solid solution. But with all the distractions she got with work and men she was never able to focus. That's why even though season 8 wasn't that good, one thing it did I liked was how billy made Phoebe feel guilty about neglecting the craft and she started to slowly begin to help more. Even though it was almost 4 seasons too late. Paige should have kept being a social worker and using her job as an asset and means to help innocents. As a whitelighter she was always prone to attracting magical cases as we saw throughout season 5 so as a social worker she had a good platform to get the resources to help people. Especially to be able to help when it wasnt always a magical solution that needed. Like with the boy who was a fire starter. But I guess the writers were always trying to tell us in everything that that the sisters couldn't focus on work and the craft at the same time. Focus was always on one or the other. Same we saw with Prue and bucklands An an another note I also felt Prue should have stayed at bucklands. Even though photography did have some benefits, it wasn't as much as when she was at bucklands. Loved the time Phoebe worked with her for a time and would get premonitions off of so many artifacts she touched. There were so many potentials for various stories we could have had.

I feel like they got tired of fighting demons which is understandable after everything they had gone thru but they then started to abuse their powers such as when Piper turned the reporters into rats or Phoebe turning someone she doesn't like into a pig. In season 1 they would have never even thought about doing that. Do you think it was right that Paige and Phoebe caused Rick to be killed in Hyde School Reunion?

Because their powers were part of their nature and the Angel of Destiny didn't have the right to ask it If having powers is your legacy and not a gift - like it is for the whitelighters - then you can whether to use them or not, yoy are not under obligation to fight demons 24/24 hours
I love the sisters even in their weariness of being witches because it respects the assumption of the show, which is about normal women, not heroines In addition, the sisters were tired of demons, not of the innocents
Phoebe hadn't the time to see the Scabber demons
Still, Phoebe knows nothing about the type of demons after Chris, in fact she chooses, rightly, to look after her innocent classmates in danger, not Chris The weapons create great panic in Phoebe, recalls her reaction when Cole got a gun
When she askes Paige to give Rick Chris's face, she can't know that Chris is protected, or something about Scabber powers, ahe hopes to take time, to create a diversion in order to resolve the situation
Paige is aware of the danger, not Phoebe
In this episode, I like only Piper-Victor-Chris story, all the teenager Phoebe story is weary and ripetitive I don't like Rick's destiny, once they used spell to cancel memory of the magic but, about Paige' decision, I remember that she,in Charmed Again, almost turning evil trying to kill a man she tought was abusing his son So I think that Paige, as Prue, easily give in to the temptation to punish the guilty

Pheobe is a rich character and she became lost amidst so many new men. The show was strongest when the relationships were grounded in moving the characters forward naturally based on emotional context. One of the reasons it was hard for me to jump on the Phoebe and Coop train was because the relationship wasn't given much time to develop, and she had spent so much time bouncing between different men, it didn't help to give them credibility. Yes, they finally showed some closure to the Cole part of her life with Coop, but it felt so rushed to me, that it was hard to take it seriously, I think they really did Phoebe a disservice by having her between so many guys after Cole, where, if they had just backed off a little and had her focus on where she was emotionally, and what impact the whole thing had on the advancement of her powers as a Charmed One. I think overall she would have gotten some stronger story choices for her character, the other girls, and the show as a whole. SaveSave

Its like she had no say in falling in love with him, it seemed like the Elders sent Coop specifically to fall in love with him not have her fall in love with others. I think even Wyatt mentioned this in Forever Charmed but I can't quite recall. It just seemed like they took the easy way out and he was made to be her perfect man without any conflict.

I feel like they wanted to have Phoebe end up with someone and realized they had very few episodes left so they forced it. I am honestly surprised they remembered the "C" from All Hallows Eve since we know the writers had many continuity errors.
