What I liked about Zankou was that finally a demon that made the sisters realise that they are not immortal, he made them feel vulnerable, defeated and facing eminent death. He had the potential to kill the charmed ones if only he wasn't so obsessed with the Nexus. The reason why demons fail to kill the charmed ones is GREED, they always want more.... I hope in the next season Kern brings another more powerful, smarter demon to keep the sisters on their toes, makes exciting episodes. yep!!! very cool explanation.. ;D

I hated the way they wrote Zankou. He wasn't that evil, and yes (as stated above) he was really stupid.

he seemed so weak and he wasn't demon-like and at the end he seemed like the most stupid demon in the world... all the cards are in his deck all he has to do is throw 3 potions at the same time and he wins. but no he had to be retarded.
i thought he was so horrible even gideon and eames from blinded by whitelighter were better (and he wasn't even a big bad)

i wish he was the one to have killed the Charmed Ones. This way we wouldn't have to suffer the Billie season.

I don't think Zankou was more powerful than The Source at that point in time.
I think The Source was afraid that Zankou would eventually become more powerful (surpassing him in controlling the Underworld), and since Zankou was too powerful to be killed by The Source, The Source simply imprisoned/exiled Zankou.

Actually, Zankou wasn't obsessed enough with the Nexus to ultimately accomplish his goal. Zankou's ultimate downfall was his own pride - - his need to get petty personal revenge on the Charmed Ones just because they humiliated him by turning him into a pig in front of his subjects and a bunch of lower-level magical creatures.

that ain't entirely true. Zankou was obsessed enough to do watever it took to get the ultimate power.

wasn't ODED FEHR (the guy who played Zankou) in The Mummy movies? Yes, he was.

I thought he was the typical demon- filled with greed and wanting "his cake and eating it too". He wanted it all. That was his downfall. He had more brains than some others, but he desire for power, success and the destruction of the sisters was ultimately his downfall. If he had taken one thing at a time, he could have killed the sisters and then get the nexus. That's where he messed up and that's where his brain failed him.

I think in some sense he did have a brain, he knew to go for the Nexus before the sisters found out, and also, hes got the closest to killing the sisters and taking over the house than any other demon before him... He deserves some credit for that...

He deserves some credit for that... I think cole came the closest to the charmed ones. He had also the brains. He sent Andras to the charmed ones. He had a knife in his hands when Phoebe came to him to talk about what happend with her sisters because of Andras. I think cole even absorped the nexus. It was a brillant plan that the charmed ones signed a paper who said that the manor belonged to cole. The ideas of cole were more complicated than those of Zankou.

Zankou made two major mistakes, IMHO:
1.) he was too upfront with the Halliwells that he was going after them and intending to kill them...if he'd taken a different approach, and played mind games with them (i.e. attempted to convince them that he wanted a truce - - even though he really didn't), he could have dealt a fatal blow to them.
2.) he let his lust for power and revenge get in the way of strategy. He wanted the Nexus and went after it, but showed his hand way too early: he had no STRONG backup plan after the Nexus entered Leo in "Scry Hard." He also released his ire on the Charmed Ones in Magic School because he'd gotten arrogant and was convinced he could destroy them (despite the fact that he was in a sanctuary surrounded by GOOD magic, and the sisters had by now caught on to his MO).
Zankou was an ill-conceived character that the producers and writers obviously intended to be a "cunning" and "calculated" Big Bad to surpass any previous form of adversity...but Oded Fehr's lack of availability, coupled with some bad writing in the later Zankou episodes, turned him into a sniveling, laughable, run-of-the-mill power-at-all-costs Big Bad. In the end, Zankou fell victim to the same weaknesses that also led to the undoing of The Triad, The Source, and The Seer.
If any demon on the show displayed superior strategy, it was Barbas...and he even ended up defeated by the Charmed Ones at least four different times.

I don't necessarily agree with that: Cole, during Season Five, got exactly what he wanted in the episode "The Importance of Being Phoebe", but he gave it up. In the end he didn't get exactly what he wanted, but he did accomplish his goal. Which was, of course, to get the manor and the nexus.

I agree that Cole showed cunning and determination by agreeing to work with the Avatars rather than against them.
I still don't see how Zankou had a "superior" strategy to any other Big Bad on the show.

thats tru but i'm pretty sure that with that vanquish Zankou's not coming back. Not likely considering the "Power Boost" of the Charmed Ones and the "Twiced Blessed" Wyatt comes from the "White Nexus" (that thing that comes out of the Chandelier) and the Destruction of the Nexus not only weakened both Wyaat and the Charmed Ones but likey that release of power Blasted Zankou's essence into nothingness (nothing to ressurect or bring back from hell as he was utterly destroyed)
