I've read about 25-30 of the books. Some are definitely better than others. Dark Vengence and the Queen's Curse are pretty good. I'll come back, when I can and list those I thought were good and others which were disappointing.
I have found that almost all do an excellent job of capturing the essence of each character, giving them both dialogue and actions consistant with their TV versions. You can almost see how many of these would make good episodes or two parters. There occasional discrepancies, some more severe than others. One book had Cole's last name wrong, a minor flaw, but one had TCOs throwing fireballs, like demons. Very wrong. Like the show, the books will paralell the main events (often mentioning them from time to time) of the TV show.
The first ten have Prue, then there was novelization of Charmed Again (pretty much just like the two part show), but from that point on Paige is now on the scene. None have brought back the ghost of Prue (which they will be able to do once the book timelines overtake the TV shows), and no mention of Billie yet, in any of of the ones I've read so far. None have advertised her character yet, as far as I've seen. No great loss, but it's only a matter of time before they write some stories with her and then get past the big finale.

I have read all the books so i will just read them again when we get to them, I liked Crimson Spell and Whispers From The Past its mostly based on Phoebe being taken back to the 16 or 1700

Soory and Crimson Spell is mostly based on Piper and her helping that girl. I think that book has some erroers in it. I mean TCO never trust anyone in their home without actually knowing them and they wait a while before they actually trust someone.

I liked Demon Dopplegangers, the Crimson Spell (too), Queen's Curse, and one (can't recall the name), but there was a very old Darklighter who was looking for recruits and using a troubled boys home to do so. There are others too. Some, not that great, some have errors with names or powers, but so far they all do a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the characters. You could see these as episodes in your mind and see the cast saying the dialogue and it feels right. Which is why I say to anyone who thinks Charmed was out of ideas, they should read the books. From what I've read they should continue to be published at the rate of one every two months. They will soon catch up to the S8 time period. I'm interested in seeing what the authors write after that point.

I just finished Truth and Consequences and the Legacy of Merlin. The Merlin book was really bad with respect to Phoebe. She was depicted as so love obsessed as to render her functionally stupid. Of course, in Truth and Consequences, she demonstrates her ability to size up people.
May I suggest that we have a thread for each of the books much as we have for the episodes? Not all of us have read every book. I still have about 8 to read, and three to purchase (the early ones). Then, there will be the Triquetra book, as well as the Charmed yearbook!
One thread for each book.

The books vary in quality of the story, but many tend to do one thing, which is a bit annoying, which is save the battle for the end with minimal action taking place except to set up the battle. This makes a lot of the books a little dull if they don't have other stories going on, like the subplots which were in most of the episodes on TV. The best books mix action, through out the story, along with the usual number of subplots going on while they figure out what is going on. The better books have the villian or demon of the story, with a plan which has been in motion for years or even centuries and, of course, it's all coming to fruition now when TCO get involved or they need a CO to make the plan happen. Like Dark Vengence or the Evil Garden, though Dark Vengence was better, in my opinion.
