Coles pain at Christmas - Completed

I dont know pubesy but i hope he finally gets a chance at realy happiness!! Poor thing hes been through so much to be with that girl! Yeah i didnt quite understand the 'Its 12' comment either.. Have to wait and see!! Love it Sammi!! Cant wait for what happens next!!

Leo and Paige followed Piper into the kitchen, leaving Phoebe and Cole to talk.
They both sat down on the sofa, and sat in silence. Cole couldn’t relax. He kept sitting back, and then sitting upright. His nervous reactions were causing Phoebe to get annoyed.
“Stop fidgeting!” She demanded. Cole looked at her, and stopped, placing his hands flat out on his knees.
“How did you know about Barbus?” Phoebe asked. Not one to beat around the bush, hey Phoebe? Cole thought to himself.
“I visited an old accomplice from the underworld.” Cole replied. He knew that this wouldn’t be enough for Phoebe, but he didn’t want to answer any more questions.
“Who?” She asked. Cole groaned. “I deserve answers damn it!” Phoebe exclaimed as she stood up and walked over to the fireplace to be away from him.
“Yes, I know you do!” Cole started. “I’m just a bit, I don’t know, drained at the minute.” He told her.
Phoebe tutted and turned away from looking at him. Cole just sat there and watched as she sobbed. He didn’t want to push his luck anymore so just stayed where he was sat for the next 5 minutes until she stopped crying.
“Cole… Please!” Phoebe begged him.
“Why do you need to know so badly? There’s nothing you can do about it now!” Cole shouted at her. He was getting annoyed. He didn’t want to, but she wasn’t helping him calm down after the day’s events.
“I know Cole, but I just don’t want any secrets.” Phoebe explained to him. She tugged on his heartstrings.
“I went to Tempus, to see if he could do anything for me. To see if he knew why I had been living in one reality one minute and a different one the next, and to see why Barbus thought he could get away with bribing me” Cole blurted out. He saw Phoebe’s face scrunch up with confusion.
“We know why you were. Piper cast that spell” Phoebe said. Cole couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
“Yes, we know that. What we don’t know is why all this happened now. I mean, how would Barbus know that I wasn’t the same Cole that had learnt to control my demon half?” Cole asked as he stood up and walked across to Phoebe.
“Well…” Phoebe started. She in fact didn’t know why, and Cole could see that she looked defeated at why someone would want to mess up her life.
“It was Tempus. Barbus went to him, begging for a way out of purgatory. Tempus informed him that I wasn’t the same Cole, that Piper had brought me back, and that there was vulnerability on my part.” Cole watched as Phoebe walked away from him again and sat down on the sofa.
He followed her, just so that he could explain things to his wife, and she if there was any flicker of doubt in her eyes.
“So, to give Barbus a loophole to get out, if he could get me to do evil, and then get someone else to kill me, before 12pm tonight, he would be able to live free for eternity.” Cole watched Phoebe’s face. She looked down at the floor, and then back up to Cole. He saw as everything clicked into place for her.
“So, you were just completely screwed from the beginning” Phoebe said to Cole.
“Yes!” Cole exclaimed. Finally! Cole thought, a break through!
“It still doesn’t make things better between us” Phoebe told him. Cole’s heart instantly fell through his stomach.
“I mean, I don’t know you!” Phoebe continued.
“Yes you do! Im the same person you have been married to for the past seven years. Im am your children’s father!” Cole rambled on at her.
“No you’re not! You don’t even remember your children! You don’t remember us renewing our vows. You don’t remember anything!” Phoebe cried.
“No, but I can try and get to know you all again!” Cole cried in return. He reached forwards to Phoebe’s hands and grabbed them. All he wanted was just this one chance! Phoebe had dismissed him once before, and now it was happening again.
“I need time to think” Phoebe said to him.
“Ok, right, fine” Cole replied. He stood up, looked around and shimmered out to the apartment.

i guess cole kind of HAS to go back to his world, and let the Other cole take his rightful place. it wouldn't be fair otherwise. he does not belong here. sad

A time-stopping potion that renders the person hit immobile for 10 minutes? That was a nice touch -- and one I wasn't expecting. Add in the fact that Barbas is finally gone, and yippee! Things are finally starting to look up for our half-demon...or are they?

*reads second update*

Ah ha! Now I understand the "it's 12" comment from the first update. It had to do with Tempus and the deal that Barbas made with him. But it looks like that deal came back and bit ol' Barbas, big-time. And poor Cole -- he wants so much to stay in this time period, but he doesn't really belong here. Looks like every time he takes two steps forward, he gets pushed back three. For his sake, I hope it works out for him...but that's up to the writer, isn't it?

*shakes head at self* Here I am, way behind in my reading again. Blame it on RL that has kept me hopping! But I have the day off, so I'm gonna get caught up now!!

I'm with Melissa on the first one; this is really truly deep, showing Cole needing to decide what to do. To either save himself or save Leo, what a choice! And we know what Piper wants him to do! And so, once more it's Piper who has brought the vial with the potion made from Belthazar's flesh and is using it to vanquish Cole. I can't believe that Barbas is going to win! But, oh, did he fight dirty, hurting Cole's family, the ones he loves, especially Phoebe! I hope that both she and Leo will be OK. Bye, Cole; I'll miss you!

WOW!! Very, very simply WOW!! I did *not* see that coming! How cool that Piper and Cole had been able to hatch a scheme and that it worked!! I *howled* over Paige getting Piper to cook dinner, but I'm wondering what Cole means by that the end if almost here....won't he get to stay within this universe?

I'm assuming the bit about 12 is that if Barbas had managed to kill Cole within that day that then he'd be in charge of the underworld--probably something to do with Cole having been the Source.

Oh, I was *SO* sure that Barbas was going to kill Piper, I was terrified! Absolutely fantastic writing, Sammi! This fic simply rocks!!

I'm glad that Phoebe now understands how screwed Cole was from the start, but I'm still with her--this isn't her Cole; he's not truly her children's fathers any more than Chris and Wyatt would be the same ones after Forever Charmed than they were during ChrisCrossed. Sorry, Cole, but this fic *is* called "Cole's *PAIN* at Christmas", and something tells me you're gonna have to return to your own world and feel that pain, but at least have that memory and maybe be able to be happy that Phoebe is finally happy with Cole...just not you!

Naturally, Sammi, if this isn't what you have in mind, don't change it to suit me....I'm sure whatever you have up your sleeve will be MUCH, much better!! Just do us a favor and update soon!!

Wow. I'm not sure what much more I could say about this. I mean, you're an amazing writer. I love your story. It's so sad to feel Cole's pain, & yet, I understand Phoebe's point of view too.

This world she lives in isn't real. It's just like that episode when Cole was turned into an avatar & went back in time after Prue's death.

Just to be with Phoebe, & she still wasn't happy. It's gotta be hard for both of them. Please update soon. I wanna know what happens.

Cole spent the next couple of hours pacing around the apartment. By the time he had finished, he had worn himself out, but found that he couldn’t rest.
All he kept thinking about was what is going to happen to him. He didn’t want to leave this reality. The more he thought about it, the more wound up he got.
He flopped down on the sofa and closed his eyes. Images flashed through his mind so fast that he had to open them again because he felt dizzy.
He thought back to when he had faked his death, how depressed he had been that he could no longer be with Phoebe. Thought back to how happy he was when he discovered that he was in another reality.
“No” He said out loud. He had reached the conclusion that he wasn’t about to let this life go. He didn’t want to leave his girls. More importantly, he didn’t want to leave his wife of whom he had wished he could be with every single day for the past 7 years.
He stood back up again, but then jumped as the life doors opened and Phoebe came walking through them.
“Phoebe!” He exclaimed, as he watched her walk towards him.
“Cole, there’s no time for this. You need to leave me. You need to go, and just never come back!” Phoebe demanded. He walked over to her.
“It doesn’t have to end like this!” He said to her. He took her face in his hands and lifted her head up so he could see her properly. She was crying. His heart was thoroughly breaking that she was making this decision, and then not feeling that she should keep him here.
“Yes! Yes it does Cole!” Phoebe cried as she pulled away from him.
“Please! I’m begging you, just don’t do this to me!” For a split second he thought he saw that Phoebe was changing her mind.
“Cole.” She started. “Don’t make this any harder than it already is.”
“Phoebe, we’ve been through so much! It can’t end this way!” Cole begged her. “Who will help you with the girls?” He asked.
“I have my sisters” Phoebe informed him.
Cole tutted. They wont be able to look after my children! He thought.
“Cole, you have to promise me that you wont come back” Phoebe asked him.
“No, I’m not promising anything. I’m not leaving!” Cole insisted.
He could tell that this was hard on Phoebe, but it wasn’t exactly an easy ride for him either.
“Answer me one thing. Who helped you come to this decision?” Cole asked her. He was going out of his mind with fury, pain and stress from all of this.
“Nobody! It was my decision all the way. Paige and Piper had nothing to do with it.” Phoebe insisted.
“And what if I kept Belthazar under control?” Cole asked again. “Myself in the other reality did it, he was given a chance.” He was trying to explore every possibility.
Phoebe sighed and shook her head.
“I was vulnerable. I wasn’t the same person!” Cole carried on.
“Exactly!” Phoebe exclaimed. “You are not the same Cole! How many more times?”
“Im going back to the Manor. If you are still here when I get back, I will make sure that I have the vanquishing potion with me, and God damn it Cole, Ill use it.” Phoebe shouted at him as she walked out again.
Cole was back to square one.
“Im not going back!” He roared, and lashed out. His fist connected with something which then fell down on the floor and smashed. Cole looked down and saw what was damaged.
It was a picture of the two, when they had first started dating about 10 years back.
“How happy” Cole muttered. He sighed as he bent over to pick the picture up.
He walked over to the television, switched it on, and sat down.
It was the news. Cole noticed the date. It was New Years Eve, and he was alone. Again.
He wanted to do something, but wasn’t sure what.
Cole stood up and walked towards the phone as it started ringing. It was Rose.
“Daddy, where are you? I miss you” came the little voice at the other side of the phone.
“I miss you too baby, daddy is a little bit busy at the minute” Cole replied. Such a lie, he thought, but what else can I say?
“Mommy said that we wont see you tonight. Why will we not?” Rose asked again. Cole didn’t like where this was leading.
“Im busy baby” He explained to her again.
“But daddy! Mommy said that she misses you. Little baby is sad too” Rose continued. Cole’s heart jumped.
“Ruby is sad?” Cole asked his daughter.
“No little baby in mommy’s tummy” Rose said to him. Cole’s eyes widened. Phoebe is pregnant? He thought.
“No way!” He thought out loud.
“Daddy, please come and see me, Ruby and mommy!” Rose begged.
“Ok, Ill be round soon” Cole replied. He couldn’t not. He said bye to Rose and hung up. His thought’s all over the place. Phoebe is pregnant! He felt a mixture of delight and panic.
I need to go and see Phoebe, and sort this out! Cole thought. He shimmered to the Manor.

“Phoebe!” Cole called as he shimmered into the Manor. “Phoebe!” He called again. He heard a patter of feet and watched as Rose and Ruby came running towards him.
“Daddy!” They both cried, excited that their dad had come to see them. Cole bent down and picked them up, one in each arm.
“Hi girls” He said to them. “Where’s mommy?” He asked.
“She’s with aunty Piper in the kitchen” Rose answered him. She looked at him, gave him a peck on the cheek and wrapped her arms round his neck.
“Don’t leave daddy!” she whispered in his ear. Cole looked and her and gave her a cheeky wink.
“Don’t worry baby, daddy isn’t planning on going anywhere.” He whispered back. He put his girls down, and watched as they chased after each other.
“Phoebe?” He called out again as he walked into the kitchen. He was greeted by Piper, Phoebe and Paige having an in-depth discussion.
“Oh, sorry” He apologised as they all looked at him. “Phoebe, we need to talk” Cole said to her.
Phoebe turned and looked at her sisters, who in turn looked at her and nodded.
“Do what you need to” Piper said to her cryptically. Cole looked at Piper, who smiled at him. He got suspicious. Is that an evil smile or a good luck smile Piper? He thought to himself.
“Come on Cole” Phoebe demanded as she took his hand and led him up to the attic. Cole got goosebumps from just the feel of her hand. Suddenly he couldn’t help but feel excited.
“I thought I told you to leave?” Phoebe asked as they reached the attic. Cole’s good mood quickly evaporated.
“You did, but the girls asked me to stay” Cole informed her. Phoebe tutted and turned round.
“Of course they would, they don’t know what has happened.” Cole watched her as she walked around the attic aimlessly. He also noticed her body language. She was being very careful with how she walked and kept touching her stomach. The glowing feeling that Cole felt before was returning, as he realised that what Rose had told him, must be true.
“You’re just making this extremely hard for me!” Phoebe explained.
“What is so hard?” Cole asked her, trying to get her to tell him that she is pregnant.
“I just, I want the Cole back that I had originally.” Phoebe said, and then laughed. “I feel like a broken record”
“Phoebe, why cant you accept that I am that Cole. All I need is a chance, just one chance to show that I can do this now!” Cole exclaimed as he walked up to her and put his arms round her waist, and felt her stomach.
“Just one chance to prove to you, that I can do this, for our girls, and for the new baby!”
Phoebe pulled away from him and turned to look at him.
“How did you know?” She asked him. She backed away from him, holding her stomach.
“Rose told me!” He exclaimed and walked towards her again. “Cant you see that this is what we need? This is the one thing that will prove to you I am a different guy, that I made on silly, God damned stupid mistake?” He begged her.
“I know, I know!” Phoebe exclaimed. “I just don’t want to be hurt again!” She sat down on one of the seats.
“I don’t want to be put in a place where I just have no where to turn, and where I am left without a father for my family!”
Cole knelt before her, and put his hands on her knees.
“I promise you, Mrs Phoebe Turner, that I will not, under any circumstance, let you down ever again!” Cole looked at her. She was looking back. He could tell that she was cracking.
“Unless another demon bribes me, in which case, Ill come to you first” He said, as he watched her smile. She slapped his hands away and stood up.
“This isn’t the time to be joking Cole!” She told him, still smiling.
“Please?” He begged.
“And you promise that you wont do anything wrong? That you wont do anything to jeopardise our growing family?” She asked.
“I promise” Cole replied.
“And you promise that if you do, Ill be able to let Paige loose on you?” She asked. Cole laughed, but saw Phoebe raise her eyebrows at him, and then replied
“I promise.”
They walked up to each other at the same time and banged heads by mistake.
“Ouch!” The both cried, then laughed and hugged each other. Cole’s heart fluttered and he couldn’t help but smile. He felt so happy.
They walked down the stairs and were greeted by, Paige and Henry at the bottom of the stairs.
“What’s up?” Cole asked Paige.
“The hospital called, we can bring Henry junior home!” Paige exclaimed as she pushed past the both of them to go and get ready. Phoebe leant forwards and hugged Henry, who was beaming that he could have his son home for New Year.
Cole and Phoebe went to join Piper in the living room. Piper looked at the both of them.
“Everything sorted?” She asked them? Phoebe nodded, and Piper jumped up and hugged her sister.
“Good” Piper replied.

It was a couple of hours later that Piper came into the living room and took Phoebe away for a chat. Cole tried to go and listen but Leo spotted him and pulled him away again, protesting that he wants to know what was going on.
Cole spent the next 10 minutes on pins, because even though Phoebe had told him they could make a shot of it, he couldn’t help but be nervous about what was being said. Anything that happened immediately could prove very dangerous for him.
The sisters emerged from the kitchen several minutes later. Cole studied all their faces. Paige looked smug, Piper looked stressed and Phoebe looked worried. Oh no! He thought, Paige is going to have something to do with what’s going to happen next, he concluded.
“Cole?” Piper called, snapping Henry out of his sleep, and causing Leo to jump a bit because he didn’t expect Piper to shout.
“Can you come with us baby?” Phoebe asked. She looked like she had been crying. Cole was cautious, and confused. What now? He thought. Everything was going fine! He continued. He stood up and followed them out and into the kitchen.
“Our original Cole has been in touch.” Paige told him as Cole’s heart plummeted through the floor.
“We have to send you back” Phoebe informed him. He looked at Phoebe, then at Piper, then at Paige.
“How? Why?” Cole stuttered.
“We don’t know how, but he managed to appear here and beg to come back, he doesn’t like…” Phoebe left the sentence hanging.
“He doesn’t like my existence?” Cole asked while finishing the sentence himself. All the sisters looked at him and shook their heads. They pity me, he thought. Just great.
Cole looked at Phoebe.
“And you’re going to do this to me?” He asked her. She nodded her head.
“That is the Cole that I truly love!” She said to him as she walked up to him. “I do love you, just this is the way it has to be”
“So what is going to happen?” He asked them.
“You have two choices.” Piper informed him. “You can either go back to the way you lived….”
“Or?” He asked impatiently.
“Or, we can vanquish you, and end what pain you will feel” Paige finished for Piper. Cole looked at Paige, and gave her the evils.
“Don’t you look at me like that, I’m trying to help you!” Paige started on him. He rolled his eyes and turned to Phoebe.
“What would you rather?” He asked Phoebe.
“I love you Cole, but if you’re going to be unhappy where you came from, then I don’t want you to live in pain!” She told him.
“Just send me back” Cole told them.
“Are you sure?” Piper asked.
Cole sighed and looked at the sisters. “If it’s the way it has to be then fine” He replied. He felt defeated. There was nothing more he could do.
Phoebe walked towards him and kissed him.
“Im so sorry! If this could have worked out any other way, I would have made it so!” She told him. She kissed him for the last time and it was like they were in another world, just the two of them, alone.
“Are we ready?” Paige snapped them out of it. Cole tutted.
“Damn it Paige, cant you wait?” Phoebe scolded her.
“Well sorry…” Paige replied. “Crickey, you try and help…” Paige muttered as she walked over to the fridge to get a drink.
Cole hugged Piper.
“Thanks for showing me what I could have had” He whispered to her. She pulled away from him and smiled.
“Its fine. You never know what can come next” She said to him and winked. Cole looked at her confused.
Cole turned to look at Paige. “Well, I suppose goodbye.” He said to her. She nodded.
“Yeah, well thanks and all” she replied.
“Good luck with Henry junior” He said.
“Thanks” she then thanked and walked to her sisters.
Cole watched as the three looked at the piece of paper in front of them and chanted the spell.
He felt a tear fall down his face as he took one last look at the Phoebe he thought he had a future with, and once again, lost out on.

OHH love the twist...i feel so sorry for this Cole though poor thing having to go back to a world where Phoebe hates him!! I feel his pain.. and tht was so totally Paige jumping in there saying tht option two was to vanquish him..love how you made her say that lol!! Great update cant wait to read more!!

Wow sammi. Amazing update as always. Poor Cole, but I understand why it has to be that way. I'm curious to know what happens when Cole goes back to his reality. Hope there is an update soon.

Beautifully done twist with the other Cole contacting them from this Cole's reality -- I was not expecting that. Bravo sweetie! And to be faced with the choice of either going back to the reality he hates or being vanquished -- neither is a wonderful option, but my heart goes out to him and I understand why he chose the way he did. Update soon...please? *puppy-dog eyes*
