but take leo as an example he hasnt worked at all maybe helped and pretended to be a handyman but he never work only back in the army did he work Coop does not have a decent career! Fact! Ok he is a cupid ill give u that, but he doesnt get paid for it, and phoebe is the only one bringing a wage in, coop is not supporting his family at all. So in that sense Dex wins, because he could support kids, coop cant

It didn't show Phoebe her having kids with Dex. It showed her getting married and it turns out it was Paige that caused what Phoebe thought it was before.

No, I didn't think he was that great of a character. But he might have been if he would have been on the show longer. lol The way he reacted when she told, I mean showed him she was a witch was crazy. If that was to ever happen to me. Like, a girlfriend showing me that she was a witch like that. I would be like "that is awesome!" lol

Nah i never "got" the Dex character either.. I just wondered if he was on trial to see if the chemistry was there, i personally didnt feel any chemistry between them, i saw more between her and Leslie which wasnt really much to start with..imo

Erm, yeah... I think the former trumps the latter just a little. There are many things that the Charmed writers could have done... fact is, they didn't. What, you mean those horrendously pretentious pieces of crap he called "art"? Pah! But hey sure, okay, he had an exhibit or whatever, so I guess there's money to be made there... but really that's your main reason? Because most of the guys Phoebe dated had jobs, I'd wager far more stable than a modern artist or whatever he called himself, so why is he her perfect match out of all of them? Coop does have a job, which is pretty important in the Charmed world, so I'm sure his "male pride" as you put it, is pretty much fine. What stress and burden are we talking about here anyway? Phoebe is a mega star, remember? Every pearl of wisdom released from her lips is worth millions. Besides, Coop probably wrote her book for her (but that's just my theory). Well, Victor Webster isn't exactly painful to look at. Pretty much all of Phoebe's guys would be deemed attractive by many...so again, what makes Dex so special? I'm not even going to get into whatever you think "being a man" is; just as I would never dictate what makes a woman a woman. But really, where did you get all that from? We never saw Dex handle himself in any such situation. The writers gave us very little to go on with him. You seem to have crafted a very elaborate fantasy-man that has Jason Lewis' face attached... but it sure aint Dex Lawson!

Big NO. Dex was just another throwaway slampiece for Freebie, only added to the show because of a WB mandate: From "Charmed Catches a Little Luck" May 27, 2005 tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,271|95549|1|,00.html And, yes, you read that right, Jason Lewis wasn't even the original actor they had in mind for Dex! It's unknown why Mark McGrath dropped out of the role (although he made a VERY wise decision in doing so), but it wasn't before the WB made a promotional poster announcing his guest appearance: I wonder if we would've been spared from the obnoxious Sex and the City references in "Malice in Wonderland" had McGrath stayed in the role? But, would we have been subjected to something far worse, instead? Like, Sugar Ray's music.

McGrath dodge a bullet there. Dex was a rubbish character from start to finish.

It just goes to show how one of the show's later faults involved trying to shoehorn in as many popular guest starts as they could. They had the budget to get Drew Fuller, Wes Ramsey, and Victor Webster into the series finale, yet they couldn't reserve a place for the original sister and one of the most recurring actors of the show, Julian. Of course, to Shannen, Charmed must have been unrecognisable at that point compared to when she was still with the series five years ago.
Dex was just another forgettable sex interest for Phoebe. I can't recall much about any of the men she was with after S4, though.

Julian was out of town shooting the sequel to Fantastic Four plus Kern said they couldn't afford him also Kern said he used up all his favors with Julian , and I think they did want Shannen but she didn't like the script writers ideas for Prue in finale. As for Dex he wasn't anything special.

McGrath dodge a bullet there. Dex was a rubbish character from start to finish. What's hilarious is that he was cast BEFORE they even had a character for him to play! That's what the WB's priorities were in those last few years, ratings and promotion over good storytelling. I'm sure that's EXACTLY how Nick Lachey was handled, too. The WB threw him onto the show and told Kern to come up with a character for him. No wonder the Frog Network died.

As I said, perhaps I blamed Kern for the wrong things. He's by no means off the hook here, but the WB was the real villain of the piece.

You would think after three seasons of being a regular on the show, becoming immersed in the character, and growing familiar with the cast members that he would have developed a personal commitment to the series. No. They can afford all these pointless guest appearances, but not Julian. I can't imagine why Shannen would disagree with the writers from a totally different era of the show. It really begs the question on what they had in mind for her. Did she ever give details as to what they approached her with?

I know some of the cast members did try to convince her to do an episode but she declined at the time because she loved the other work she was doing and because she felt like she was done playing Prue. Kern's reason for not bringing her back for the finale was b/c if she did, it would've meant that one of the past characters like Wes Ramsay,Drew Fuller, or Fiona Hughes couldn't reprise their roles due to cost and if she did come back the episode would've been all about Prue at the time. Julian was their for two in a half years on the set of Charmed. Holly Marie Combs stated that Julian was already busy at the time the finale was coming up. He stated in an interview that if Charmed ever made to its 200th episode that he would love to come back but that never happened.

I heard that the reason Shannen wasn't in it was because she thought the finale script was rubbish. She sure was right on that count.

One of the core characters of the series and they have reservations because they're concerned about her assuming too much narrative control? It's better than wasting time and resources bringing back the two pointless characters whom Drew and Wes played just so they could get a final cameo in the show despite their story having already been written off as finished when Leo murdered Gideon. In fact, they could even have Paige or Phoebe killed in exchange for Prue because it's obvious Alyssa and Rose didn't care about the story or the characters by that point, they just wanted out. To them, it may even come as a relief since it lessens their odds of having to return in a few years.
