There were many reasons circulating why Shannen left and to this day, the reasons are still unknown. There are rumors and gossip. Nothing was ever confirmed.
I do know for a fact that Shannen and Alyssa are on good terms (Shannen even said so in an interview). They do not hate eachother and their differences aren't what caused Shannen to leave. Shannen wanted out because she felt that she was not being heard on the show. She had ideas to improve on the show and no one took listened. I also hear that she actually needed a break in season 2 but they would not allow her the time off she requested.
The only differences between Alyssa and Shannen was the Alyssa was angry with Shannen for not signing the extention contract.
Shannen wanted out but they would not allow it. She was planning on coming back for a 4th season until she received her pink slip while she was in another country shooting the movie "Another Day" with Julian McMahon. There were never any "it's her or me" deals with Alyssa and Shannen.
I'm posting this because it's gotten incredibly repetitive discussing the "Why Shannen left Charmed?" deal. If anyone wants to discuss this, discuss it here and don't start new threads about it.
Any new threads started relating to Shannen's departure will be locked and archived.

Then was Shannen lying in her interviews with Details Magazine and Entertainment Tonight? I know better than to trust tabloids and their articles on why SD left, but out of her own mouth in these two approved interviews she pretty clearly indicated that AM's complaining and lack of "work ethic" was at least part of the reason why Shannen wanted to leave Charmed. HERE I already posted her Details Magazine interview. An interview which she stated was the most in depth interview she was going to do on what happened. An interview she approved and which she told several other magazines to refer to for what happened (both prior and after its publishing). Here's one passage from that interview that really stuck out. ------------------------------------------------------------- "I think my passion for my work was too overwhelming," says Doherty of the fur-fly that became the Charmed set. Doherty claims the issue was one colleague's work ethic. "I mean, what do we do?" she continues. "Say a few lines, sit in our trailers, and get paid a fortune. That's really rough. And yet there was a person there that bitched about her job, day in, day out." According to Doherty, a "mediator" was brought in to diffuse all the poisonous estrogen. To this diplomat she said, "Are you supposed to be my shrink? Because I've already got one."
Exchanges like these apparently so riled Milano, Doherty says, that the comely newcomer announced that she would not return to the show if Doherty stayed on. Doherty insists that she was the more politic star; to settle things, she took the matter up with the serge suits at Paramount, threatening to quit unless "changes" were made, though she says she wanted Milano to stay. ------------------------------------------------------------- Now here's a transcription of her ET Interview. ------------------------------------------------------------- Entertainment Tonight: We want to set the record straight about you leaving "Charmed."
Shannen: That was my request. I was unhappy, and I just felt that the work wasn't fulfilling, and that there was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work. I just didn't want to be a part of it. I'm 30-years-old and I don't have time for drama in my life anymore. I'm really focused and I just want to do good work and to prove my ability as an actress. I wasn't able to do that on that show.
I want to work with actors who really care and who want to be there every single day. I don't want to be with people who mean person about their job, and complain about it and say that they hate it or anything else. I want to work with people who care as much as I do, because that's when you do your best work.
I'll miss Holly a lot. That's really the only thing I want to clear up and I know that she wants to clear up. We've spoken like every single day since I've been in Winnipeg, and she's one of my best friends and I love her dearly. There were never, ever, any problems between the two of us.------------------------------------------------------------- So if you really know that there were never any problems with Alyssa and that there was no bad blood between them, then can you please explain why Shannen would throw AM under the bus like that if it wasn't true? |

Okay, so what you're saying is this: she didn't want to sign the contract extension and wanted out, then after the season ended, Shannen decided to come back for the 4th but it was too late when Spelling Television gave her the 'pink slip' while she was in Canada filiming a movie. If that's the case, what a horrible way to go. No wonder Shannen, since then, never wanted anything to do with Charmed anymore and a reason why she was never approached to even come back for a cameo say, in the 150th episode or even the series finale. |

Precisely. Shannen was going to come back for a 4th season (although I'm not positive if it was willingly or not which I assume it wasn't) but was let go in a very unprofessional way. Holly actually got in some trouble for letting too much information go about the event. Holly even said they handled it very poorly. I don't blame Shannen for not wanting to come back after the way she was treated.
Though unlike Alyssa, Shannen never stopped caring about her performances and work. In season 8, you could tell Alyssa was tired of being Phoebe. Shannen portrayed Prue beautifully till her very last moment on screen. She really put her heart and soul into All Hell Breaks Loose.

Yeah, she sure did. AHBL is one of, if not ,my favorite Charmed episode. Shannen directed it as well. From what I understand, she was very much into the whole production and marketing of the show. If the WB didn't put up a billboard of Charmed, Shannen was usually the one that made sure they did. I remember reading an interview where Holly says this. You could tell she had a lot of passion for the show. |

VanillaBliss - Please refrain from comments such as those in Prue's Fan Club. Like it or not, Shannen played Prue and you don't have to like her but you could at least be courteous to the rest of her fans.
Also, just for the record, money was never an issue nor did Shannen feel she was "too good". If that's how it was, why would she put such effort into her performances and ideas? Plus, you don't know Shannen personally so you don't know if she's a "b1tch" now do you?

guys guys guys, i'll say this and i'll hush...whenever an actress or actor leaves a series no matter what show it is some fool always wants to make a big ole stink about it somewhere. i didnt read anywhere that alyssa and shannen werent on good terms. i have read alot that shannen got pink slipped. and that she didnt want to stay. i so hate it that all this always gets blown way out. and it's always alyssa's fault ect... things happen for a reason. and we will proably never know the real story. but know this tv series folks fight all the time. i think spelling is the bady in this. and i think she was treated unfairly. but even rose and holly had said in an interview on thecharmedones.com that they were treated like crap. i dont think this show has been given enough credit and i dont think shannen was either. and they all need a good kick in the a** for not askin her to come back at least for the finale ... just my opinion... ok now i'm done most of my stuff is out of tv guide tho. and no i'm not goin lookin for the words to prove myself. that gives me the a head hurt.

However, I'm not the one saying she's such a horrible person. I'm not saying she's a saint either since I don't know her. I don't pass judgement on people I don't know but from reading/watching interviews with her and seen her other works, I am a fan that feels the tabloids have exploited Shannen's "bad girl" rep for far too long. And no, you're not stopping Shannen/Prue fans from liking her, but it's very disrespectful to come into a FAN CLUB for a particular person/character and make negative comments. |

It is utter disrespect to say that kind of stuff in a FAN CLUB about her. Yes read FAN CLUB. Everyone is entitled to opinions, but your's are way too harsh. I suggest that you get an attitude check (because you seem pretty immature right about now rolling your eyes....)or don't say anything at all. Besides put yourself into this situation. If we were bashing on you, would people who know you like the things we say? I suggest you take your opinions of Shannen else where, because this is respectable site for Shannen and all of the other actresses.
