Stock Actress, as in her prefered roles are short term guest or "extra" apperences, such as Being a Nun on that Show She's been a guest/extra actress on Dawson's Creek, Party of 5, and CSI and such over the years as well. She was quite good on Strong Medicine...

I thought Lori failed to convey emotions at all. She just seemed to read the lines and that was it. She also had little facial expressions, she was completely wrong for the part. yes, and people said this about Rose when the Paige Character was introduced and Drew when the Chris Character was introduce. It's a gut reaction to something different rather then the person actually sucking I think Lori and Alyssa performed Phoebe in the first eppisode equally well, and if you want to talk about bad acting there are times when all the girls weren't up to par in one eppisode or another...lol

I watched it on youtube.com. Do not know if it is still there. It was in three parts.
I agree that she was too old for Phoebe. Or at least presents herself as more together and mature than Phoebe was in the beginning. I do not believet that she sucked persay. Just was not as vivacious as the Phoebe character is. Had she stayed on Phoebe likely would not have become the source of the affections of any evil characters or the person that some love to hate. She would likely have been a more supporting character to Shannon and Holly. IMO

The only thing I can say about the first Pilot episode of Charmed is: NO CHEMISTRY! The chemistry of the sisters was not as strong until after when they replaced Lori with Alyssa (Thank goodness!). I'm glad they added Alyssa. She will always be the original Phoebe in my book.

Alyssa milano definitely performed the role better, I saw the first ep with alyssa and the first ep with lori and alyssa just said everything with better energy or feeling. Of course the chemistry was great between alyssa, holly and shannen.... like they were real sisters. Lori just didn't fit in and she looked so old

Maybe they thought that the people weren't really gonna like her b/c she wasn't that famous at the time or maybe she said that she didn't like the show. That would defintly explain it if she didn't like the show they probably wouldn't air her as Pheobe because well she doesn't like it.

Lori asked to be let out, the producers or network didn't have anything to do with it.

Just like Brian got the role of Leo as opposed to Andy whom he auditioned for. Just look at what happened to both Andy and Prue's characters. We wouldn't have had Brian for 8 years and I definitely think Leo and Piper are very much what they are because of the actors portraying them. I don't think Brian and Shannen would've had much chemistry.

What is amusing is that if Alyssa had been in the pilot and Lori had been Phoebe for the past 8 years people would be saying the reverse about Lori being the "good actress" and Alyssa doing little more then reading lines and being herself like she was on Melrose place, Who's the Boss and in that movie Commando with fellow Line reader, same ol' self, Ahnold...lol

Lori did not look like she could be the younger sister of Prue and Piper. It just wasnt the right part for her. Alyssa is great. She is Phoebe and will always be the original in my book too.

Well, I just had the opportunity to watch the unaired pilot on Youtube. My thoughts?
1) Lori Rom was too tall. Nor did she possess the youthful exuberance that Alyssa brought to the part. Her gaunt face contrasted negatively with Alyssa's full, cherubic features (in Season 1).
2) Boy, it's a good thing they re-designed the set for the Halliwell manor. It was way too cluttered and unattractive.
3) I prefer the vanquish in this episode to the one that actually aired. (Although the pole in the middle of the attic could mercifully have been done away with.)
4) I do hope the rights get straightened out so that this pilot could be released on its own or as a supplement to DVD Season 8.
5) Dorian's character was sorely needed!

Yeah, Seemd more like a "Lifetime Movie" but my favorite part of the Original Pilot was that Jeremy's skin Peeled away to show that he was a "Devil" (Warlock) underneath that human looking apperance "Devils"(Warlocks) and Demons don't get along to well and at least that part of the Demonology references stuck later in the series....lol Lori did fine as Phoebe, but she is a "short project" Stock type Actress by nature so I wasn't suprised when she decided to bail out of a 3 year Commiment with a open option to tack on more seasons I mean considering how many Pilots Bomb each season and how many of them she has done over the years she may have thought of this as just another temporary paycheck...lol In fact it is not to uncommon for Pilots that get past development phase and to Air to have Character and Actor/Actress changes....for example Ginger the Movie Star and Mary-Ann the Farm Girl on "GIlligan's Island" was originally Ginger the Secretary and Bunny the Sectratary and the Pilot had a Carribian music intro with a Song being sung by someone sounding like Ricky Ricardo...lol

i think that alyssa is a much better phoebe than lori. i watched the unaired pilot on youtube.com and i just dont think lori would have cut it for these reasons:
1) she didn't look young enough to be the youngest halliwell sister 2) she didn't seem free spirirted enough to be the rebel of the family and 3) she didn't deliver the lines in a believable way. For example, when lori sees the pointer movie on the spirit board, the lines just seem like.... well lines! but when alyssa sees the spirit board pointer move, she makes it believable that her character was really freaked out, not like she was just saying what the directors told her to. Basically, alyssa put more feeling into the character.

What you describe - point by point - is what others are referring to as "NO CHEMISTRY". I agree.
