hi, im ChArMeD aka kerry heaney, i have watched this clip of lori rom in the first - unaried episode of charmed on you tube i think it is in different parts. i watched it and in my opinion i am glad they chose alyssa milano. lori rom in my opinion is not as good an actress as alyssa milano. alyssa milano can play phoebe halliwell miles and miles better than lori rom and she puts more effort in to it and she plays phoebe as phoebe should be played and if it wasnt for alyssa milano, im not saying its a good aor a bad thing, prue wouldnt have been killed off the show ( i liked prue a lot as a person and a character, she brought a lot into the show) then we would have never have met Rose Mcgowen aka paige matthews/halliwell and Charmed would have turned out a lot differently. so maybe it is a good thing in many, many ways that alyssa milano was chosen over lori rom and it happened for a reason and for all the right reasons ! ! ! - also phoebe and alyssa have grown over theyears in real life and in Charmed and im glad to see this because this made it more interesting  and in my opinion it doesnt look like lori rom would have made these changes for the characters of for her because she was way too serious ! in my opinion she was like prue but prue was a lot better at playing a character because she was fun and funny aswell and she was serious when she needed to be but lori rom as phoebe in my opinion didnt play phoebe right because phoebe should have been played like alyssa played her where she finds the funniness of every situation and alyssa did this but lori rom didnt and this didnt make one of the good poin of chared when lori played phoebe - so in my opinion Alyssa Milano is the better Phoebe by miles and miles ! ! ! ! ! : ) |

I don't think you'll get anyone to disagree with you about AM being the better actor and all she brought and grew into during the show. However, why do you say that if not for AM, Prue (SD) would still be there? I think you'll find it was only a rumor that AM and SD were not getting along, at least not enough to get her booted.
Although it was never officially announced why this happened, after reading a number of the actors quotes, knowing the history of why SD got booted off 90210, and that a new contract was being negotiated for all three, I believe the reasons why SD was cut was two fold. One, she was doing the Diva thing, acting out a little (which Spelling hated and what got her canned from 90210) and two, she was probably holding out for more money to sign back on for another five years. It may have been another aspect of the contract, like it being five years long and she didn't plan to stay that long, but this is unsure.
Charmed had turned out to be a surprise hit for the WB, one of their top shows, lasting far longer than expected and holding on to quite a dedicated audience. SD probably saw that as an opportunity, as the main star of the show, which she had become (just look at all the die hard Prue fans despite her being gone for last five years of the show), and either wanted more money, or some other changes to her contract which obviously totally annoyed Spelling to the point of firing her.
Given that she directed the last episode she was in "All Hell Breaks Loose", it was ironic she was killed off there. Convenient situation allowing her to be replaced without missing a beat. You also know it didn't go over well with SD as despite being very close friends with HMC, never once asked or was asked to come back as a cameo ghost or allow even her image to ever be used on any future episodes. Not even a picture on a wall or in a flashback scene that was already shot. In the one time that was done, they used doubles and re-shot that part of the scene (in the episode: Cathouse).
I'm only supplying all this history (with my own theory on why Prue was canned) so as to not start up the "SD left because of AM" rumor again and to note how bad the feelings must have been over the firing. I think Spelling felt he had given SD a fair second chance on another one of his shows and she turned around and tried to bite the hand feeding her, again.
SD is a fine actor, but since Charmed, what has she done in the last 5-6 years. Some not so good B movies, some not so good reality TV (as if we need any more reality TV), and probably a few other odds and ends. I'm not down on SD, don't get me wrong. I just think she blew an opportunity with Charmed, and it hurt both her career and the show in the process. Charmed ratings began to suffer after SD was gone and, I think, eventually contributed to it's ending, despite the fine jobs done by HMC, AM, and RM.

I think you'll find it was only a rumor that AM and SD were not getting along, at least not enough to get her booted. i no this is a rumor but you never see them together or talking to eachother and it was on some news thng on you tube which somebody had recorded (i dont know the link it was a clickie thing on somebody elses forum i think) and i heard and read that Alyssa said that if Shannon didnt quit she would and so Alyssa was more popular (which i dont believe because thay are both just as good) so the kept her and killed Shannon - Prue off. |

Im so glad Alyssa Milano than took the role of "Phoebe Halliwell" She played her so well, I couldnt imagine anyone else playing Phoebe...
I thought the pilot was odd..it was different with out Alyssa you know?

On the Making off. Yes, the scene is you also on this. I must say I didn't like it at all. Also because it simply didn't come over here. Alyssa Milano was simply magnificent against this. And I find this was the right decision at that time, too.
Perhaps I think also so because I have already admired Alyssa Milano as a child. "Is" Who is the Boss?"

.....For one all the sisters are the same height, with brown hair and brown eyes, whereas Lori was like 2 foot taller than Holly and Shannen. Shannen had green eyes but still looked like a sister..... Heh, heh I should post a piture of my family sometimes. I am fair skinned and look more European while my 1st full blooded brother looks like a Red Nrcked Hillbilly, my 2nd full blooded brother looks Asian, My full blooded sister looks Hispanic/Mexican (had problems being mistaken for a Illegal Immigrant near the Texas Border), and My full blooded Baby Brother looks Hawaiian....lol Oh, and don't even get me started on blood relatives "all colors of the rainbow" or the fact that I wouldn't be surprise that my children come out black skin, red hair, green eyes or Tan skin, Blondie hair, and hazel eyes even when my wife doesn't have those features cause of my ethnic heritage covering about 17 different origins. (would do a Paternity test though...lol) |

I don't think the height issue would have been such a big deal, sisters don't have to be the same height. Yes, it would have been a little bit awkward if Lori was 2 ft. taller but in general height shouldn't matter. However, looks are a different issue. Archangel...I know that a lot of siblings in the world don't look alike, I know people who think they're "adopted" because they look nothing like any of the members in the family. But this is a T.V. show, and they're going to make them all look like their related, all have very similiar features, and look like they're sisters.

I managed to track the unaired pilot via limewire yesterday and watched it last night, felt weird with the other pheobe, she's not as good as Alyssa Milano, but it makes you wonder how the show would have progressed if Lori Rom had remained I dont think it would've lated 8 years, i think maybe 5, like i think if Shannen Doherty has stayed i think it would've probably made it to season 6, it needed Rose to move it into a new direction   |

I saw some scenes from the pilot in the eight season dvd's extras , and I think Alyssa is just the right girl for the role....I agree with what you said , there was no chemistry at all with Lori Rom

I completely agree that Lori was unfit for the character. I seen too that she left for personal reasons but of those I don’t know.
Lori,(no offence) was quite boring and I couldn’t see how Charmed would of went with her in it.
Alyssa was the perfect person to play the part and I’m glad she played Phoebe. She was fantastic!!

Thanks for sharing the links piperhalliwell4eve I just finished viewing them and it was kinda weird seeing Lori as Phoebe. I'm not sure if I'm just used to Alyssa or what but Lori seemed to old to be the young free-spirit...I think Alyssa fit being the youngest. She wasn't bad though and I'm sure it would of still been a good show. It was also weird to see a different Andy...  |

ok ....
i saw lori rom or whoever in one clip and then they showed Alyssa Milano doing the same seen. Alyssa was SSSSSOOOOOOO much better than her. Lori didnt even do any reaction when she had her first premonition. and she just stood there and shut her eyes. she didnt even gasp.if your mind stopped and saw somthing in a different place ..dont u think u would ave som kind of expression on ur face.ALYSSA MILANO all the way!!!! ;D
