There's a lot of interesting points there. Based off what I read in this thread, I think that it would have been interesting if for the first few episodes that we saw Rex and Hannah we thought that they were just normal humans and that Hannah was just protecting her territory (Rex) by acting the way she was, since Rex seemed to like to hit on Prue. Based on what I remember from the show there initial job was to find out for sure if these three sisters were actually the Charmed Ones. Once they learned that, their job was to take action against them.
It would have been amusing for Rex (since Hannah never would have done it) to somehow convince Prue to invite him (or him and Hannah) over for dinner and find out something was up when someone caught one of them exploring a little too much (since they would have had no real reason to know where the Book of Shadows was). We might not have really know what was up even then, but we might have suspected something. "The Witch is Back" would have had to be after this point, unless it was played in such a way that we thought giving Prue the amulet was an accident.
I never understood why warlocks were the low end of the evil food chain. Perhaps it's because so many of them once were humans and demons never were. Because of how warlocks are obsessed with power, if they are good at it, then they collect a lot of powers and it would have been quite interesting to see more warlocks who had collected a variety of powers (as Eames did in season three) and I would have liked to have seen a variety of powers from Rex and Hannah . . . I also would have liked to have learned their real names . . . though I think it would have been interesting if the Buckland family really was a family of warlocks and they hadn't stolen any identities. It isn't that I don't think they could (obviously they succeeded only to a limited degree), only that a warlock family legacy like the business of Bucklands auction house would have been quite interesting to explore.
I didn't like how they ended. I think that I could easily see that as being the sources way of transporting them away and putting them in "time out" for a while were they would be punished for their failures. I don't think Hannah should have been able to kill Rex (not like that, not with a warlock), so I doubt she did. As a result I think they were both still alive when the source took them and I can easily see that leaving an opening for them to return.

Defiantly could have been returned later on the series. I wish the source of all evil was never found or seen. I think the big bads are more scarier if you don't see them.

Very true, because if you never see them, it's hard to defeat them. And if you never defeat them, it's always in the back of your mind that they are still out there and that they can still attack or send someone to attack you.

Definitely, it's easier to fight the evil you can see.

On the note of not seeing the big bad that should go for the elders as well. I hate that the elders are just basicaly fancy whitelighters.

Amen. Had both the Elders and the Source never been seen (except as that extraordinarily scarey caped figure), I think the show would've been much better. Add the not allowing the living to go to Elderland because there's no air there (Elders and Whitelighters are dead; they'd need no air) and the fact that dead men should not be able to sire children and demons shouldn't be able to mate with mortals and it would be just about perfect.
Back on topic. I *totally* love the idea of HANNAH dying during S1 (like I said, I hate that whiney parody of a woman - a bit like Piper became in latter seasons), but Rex surviving (the Source perhaps forgiving him) and continuing to pick up powers throughout the seasons and then coming back as the Big Bad during S8. Can you imagine if rather than that British guy who had been after Paige that it had been Rex using a different name and a spell so he looked differently??
Maybe even having a girlfirend that he could talk to, like he did to Hannah, but one closer to Debbi Morgan's Seer?? Now there would be a couple who could've truly given The Charmed Ones a run for their money!

Were Rex and Hannah the gate keepers to evil? What I mean is, they were the first big bad that the sister had to defeat. Opening up concept of something more evil out there, introducing the triad in the next season. Actually, it was really Leo who had defeated Rex and Hannah, when he used a spell to return their powers. I believe that all sentient beings had free will. What you had described came from that ridiculous "48 Hours Window of Opportunity" rule that I found to be a load of narrow-minded crap. Warlocks are evil. What on earth made Constance Burge drum up this ridiculous idea that when witches choose evil, they become low-level demons?

I never got either of those either. It makes no sense that if someone is evil they are always evil (ie Warlocks and anyone under that 48 hour window . . . does this only apply to some?) and yet someone who is good can always stray into evil. And what about those on the show who changed from evil to good? Did Cole originally pick good because of his father (I suppose that window was when he was a newborn?) I suppose Drake chose good, because as far as we know he was always good. And what about Kyra? Was she always good? (And no, I can't answer that even from the show. I've not seen her episodes. Well, seen . . . haven't heard.) Brenden clearly chose good, but how'd that come about in the environment where his brother's chose evil . . . and why do I get the feeling that given another week or two for that story and one of them might have chosen good. And when was the window for Prue, Piper, and Phoebe? Was it when they were babies? I think someone was pulling major magical leg in that episode . . . and I think I know who it was. It was the cleaners. I know they are evil. Don't try convincing me they aren't (or do, you might convince me, but I doubt it); I know they are demons.

During her "reign", demons were "The Demon of THis" or "The Demon of That". Warlocks - witches who had chosen evil - were definitely on the top of the food chain, since they were the ones who stole powers (I always found it funny when demons could blink, since that was originally a witch's power, one that Matthew the Warlock had stolen - it would've been fun if one of the Charmed Ones had the power to blink...) It wasn't until Season Three, when Brad Kern was in charge that suddenly demons were the most powerful and most important evil. Personally I would've prefered it the way it originally was.

During Constance Burge's era or rule came the idea that when witches choose evil, they become warlocks. This came out of Phoebe's mouth in the series' first episode. It was during Constance Burge's era when warlocks were first portrayed as "demonic" by having them change into game face or being immortals of a kind. Not only did the warlock stuck in the painting in "The Painting World" fail to age, so did his warlock girlfriend, who WAS NOT stuck in the painting. The two "warlocks" called the Collectors in "They're Everywhere" looked and acted like demons, instead of warlocks (former witches). And this idea that warlocks don't bleed (from the same episode) sounds like nonsense. If they are former witches, they should be bleeding. All this crap popped up during Burge's watch.
Brad Kern wasn't the only one screwing up some of the writing.

I wrote this some years back... Rex and Hannah: A Missed Opportunity
by
Tim McCree As those of you who are familiar with my Charmed Fan Fictions may know, I took a lot of time to develop the characters of Rex Buckland and Hannah Webster. R&H were, of course, the two Warlocks who appeared early in Season One. In my Fan Fictions, I transformed R&H from power hungry Warlocks into a loving couple who became trusted allies with the Charmed Ones. I received a lot of comments from readers of my Fan Fictions, saying that they liked “my” Rex and Hannah better than the ones that appeared on the show! I considered that a great compliment and I was pleased that my work was so well received. That got me thinking about something. It seemed that, as far as the show was concerned, the characters of R&H had a lot of potential that was just never realized. However, I was able to see potential in these two characters right from the moment they were first introduced. There were many ideas that could have been used. A couple of examples are listed below: 1. We could have had a flashback story that revealed just how R&H become Warlocks in the first place. 2. R&H could have done some soul searching and realized that they really had no desire to harm the Charmed Ones. Then they could have gotten the nerve to stand up to the Source and assert their right to choose their own destiny. Sadly, neither of those scenarios happened. Instead, the writers just tossed these two great characters aside and forgot about them. When Charmed ended in 2006, after eight seasons on the air, it was without a return appearance of R&H. To this day, I feel that the show missed a great opportunity when it never brought R&H back. Of course, once R&H were no longer on Charmed, they fell into my capable hands. I decided to give R&H the chance to shine that the writers of Charmed never had the inclination to give them. My latest series of R&H Fan Fictions is called The Rex and Hannah Chronicles. This is the third incarnation of the R&H characters that I have created (my Original Charmed Stories and the Charmed Extended Universe being the previous two). As you can guess from the title, R&H are the STARS of these new stories. I hope to provide new and fascinating adventures for R&H (in fact I have already written several stories as of the writing of this article). I invite all my readers who have enjoyed my R&H stories in the past to come along. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Rex and Hannah have moved. Last January, I decided it was time for a new direction for our two favourite former Warlocks. So, for Rex and Hannah, that meant good-bye San Francisco and hello Lovecraft Country. In my 34th R&H story, New Frontiers, Rex took a new job at Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts (the setting of many of H.P. Lovecraft's stories). That means he and Hannah will be moving there. Of course, things aren't as they seem, and perhaps Rex's new job comes with perks that he wasn't anticipating. This is still ongoing, but I think this is the right way to go. I'd already dropped the Halliwells as guest characters, and the next logical step was to move R&H away from San Francisco (the setting of Charmed). Since I'm now aiming for the Lovecraft fans, moving R&H into his territory seemed right. Of course, not all of R&H's adventures in their new home will be Lovecraft related, but I am working on a story arc that involves Lovecraftian themes. Stay tuned. And it seemed my decision was the right one. Since moving my R&H Chronicles into the Cthulhu Mythos section of FF.net, I've already gotten more reviews than the two years they sat gathering dust in the Charmed section (I only joined FF.net in 2012). Not many reviews, mind you, but it's better than no reviews, which is exactly how many they got in the Charmed section. Some might ask me: "Tim, by using Lovecraft's concepts in your Rex and Hannah stories, aren't you doing the same thing you accused Kern of doing, namely ripping off pop culture?" To that I would answer the following: It all depends on how it is handled. I am a big fan of H. P. Lovecraft and I pay tribute to him by tying in his concepts with the Rex and Hannah Chronicles. However, I don't have Lovecraft concepts appear in the R&H Chronicles now because Lovecraft is the current "big thing". Rather, I've done it because these stories are tribute to an author who's works I love to read. Besides, as I said above, R&H seem to have found a home among the Lovecraft fans (and among those at the Alexander Palace Time Machine Board). And while movies based on Lovecraft have been made, and done moderately well, they were nowhere near the box office smashes of Harry Potter and Pirates Of The Caribbean. What I'm doing now, and what Kern did, are two totally different things.

The best I can say about Rex and Hannah is that they were a very subtle pair. Especially Rex. I tend to like villains who are crafty and subtle. But they were not my favorite villains.

They were far superior to the leather bound idiots of the later seasons.
In many ways, Zankou was like R&H in that he operated in the same way, he took his time and calculated his attack.

Did Rex cause it, or did he inadvertently tap into something that was already there. If so, it must have been a delayed reaction, because it was not until Kern seized power that Piper became "I want a normal life" whine-a-thon person we all know.

There is a certain poster here who has criticized me for "ruining" Rex and Hannah because I turned them good. So, a Charmed character can turn evil (hello Gideon), but they're not allowed to go the other way? Talk about a double standard here.
But, I digress...
So maybe I should consult the tons and tons of Fan Fictions that R&H appear in to get a feel of... Wait. What's that you, say? Oh yeah, there aren't any!
Seriously, I challenge anyone to go to the Charmed section of FF.net and find a story with Rex and Hannah in it. You're more likely to see the Loch Ness Monster.
You want a Next Generation/Power of fill-in-the-number-of-kids story, take your pick. However, if you're looking for Rex and Hannah, good luck to you (of course, there are my stories, you'll find them in the Cthulhu Mythos section).
Here is an interesting fact. R&H vanished out of the Charmed character list when I transferred my stories to the Cthulhu Mythos section, a few months ago.
Yeah, maybe what I've done with Rex and Hannah does not fit well with some people, that's fine. However, I like to think that I've kept these two characters alive in my stories. As I have said, I've managed to pick up fans who have never seen Charmed, one didn't even know of its existence. My Rex and Hannah were the ones they saw first.
So, through my stories, and my new Wikia, Rex and Hannah will continue to thrive.
PS: The only story I've seen with Rex and Hannah in it, and that I had no connection with, was An All Knighter. This was one of the stories in the excellent Destined series. Alas, due to the closing of the Destined project, it was never completed.

I know. R&H were from a time when the show was actually good. It's strange how they've been so overlooked by fandom, with the exception of me. Seems I'm the only one who has kept them from being forgotten entirely.
