Inspired by a thread, I thought of the idea of if Charmed wasn't set in San Francisco where should it have been?
Charmed didn't use San Francisco to its full potenial, and they never showed any gay characters, or even had a sister being a lesbian to represent the gay community. They may as well have picked another location.
So what location would you have picked or liked? And if Charmed does get a reboot where would you have it set instead?

I made my choice with Salem and Rhode Island, though my knowledge of the USA is limited.

I picked New Orleans and Virginia Beach. New Orleans, of course, for obvious reasons. The city has a long, rich history steeped in magic and spirituality, and it also happens to be one of the most beautiful cities in the US. As for Virginia Beach, it's the closest to where the earliest English colonies in the US were--The Lost Colony of Roanoke Island and Jamestown. There's a lot that can be culled from that 400+ year history that's hardly been explored in most TV shows or movies to begin with. (For whatever reason, the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas are not a popular setting for TV shows.) Big NO to Salem or Boston as an alternate setting. Witches and Salem are beyond cliché by this point, especially when they portray tired, pervasive inaccuracies about witches being "burned" there.

I would've preferred a smaller city. Like someone else mentioned, the writers didn't really use San Francisco like they could have. Charmed would've been better set in a smaller city since they never went anywhere besides P3 anyway. New Jersey or Philadelphia would've been great because New York is so close.
I did like the top of the Golden Gate Bridge setting so they at least had something to connect it with San Fran.

To say that Charmed didn't take advantage of San Francisco would be an understatement. Aside from LGBT culture being non-existent on the show, there's also the tokenized, stereotypical way it portrayed Chinese culture (think "Enter the Demon" and "12 Angry Zen"). Chinese culture is a HUGE part of San Francisco's history (the city being a hot spot for Chinese immigration in the 1800s), and yet, it was mostly short-shrifted on Charmed. Yeah, Charmed really belonged on the East Coast if it wasn't going to accurately portray San Francisco. It's the older half of the country, anyways.

Boston would have been an interesting location.

Ugh, is Salem really in the lead? So much for originality. What next, pointy black hats and broomsticks?

Salt Lake City because of the mountains- sorry I am an highlander - and the frightening woods, I visited 15 years ago with my family during a holiday and I liked the place
I love both New York and Boston, but Boston fits like a glove, more snug and solemn

Can't think of too many shows set out there, either. Way better than Boston or Salem (which I wouldn't have even put as options, IMO).

At present I read that the woods around Salt Lake are used as set for several horror movies because of the light taxes

At present I read that the woods around Salt Lake are used as set for several horror movies because of the light taxes Yeah, that's often what happens with a lot of these "lesser-known" places. They're used as the sets for shows and movies that take place elsewhere. You see this especially happen with Canadian cities. A million TV shows are filmed in Vancouver, but very few are actually set there. Why, because taxes are cheaper, and the city can be easily passed off as NYC, LA, or any other big, overexposed American city if needed.

The summer after my classical A level, I travelled with 2 friends, Leonor and Xenia, from Denver - Xenia had been admitted to Colorado State University- to Los Angeles and we went to Utah to see some wonderfull parks: Bryce Canyon, Arches and Zion The woods and the montains around Salt Lake City fits for horror movie but I think that Seattle is best suited to act as a setting to Charmed

Looks like the Big Easy lost two votes to Boston/Salem. KILL ME. Seriously, is this what you wanted Charmed to look like?

In quite a few viewers opinions obviously yes since that's where they associate witches with the most although me personally I'd keep that in the past and use more moderner towns like Richmond and Virginia Beach as I said previously.

Yeah, I guess old clichés and stereotypes die hard. It's astounding how many people still honestly believe that witches were burned in Salem.

And every movie ever made by Syfy. Those Canadian forests have been in so many of those movies, they should get royalties.

lol Maybe we are clichéd here, with burning witches, though in Europe it's the sad truth! Anyway, some locations are connected with clichés. You can't ignore that.

Charmed itself fell for that myth. It would have been more accurate if they'd said that Melinda Warren had been hanged.
