It's a tie between 6 and 8 for me. 6 was when it really became completely about Piper and her family, with Phoebe and Paige thrown in as annoying side characters. It wasn't all bad, but I think it should have been a spin-off rather than considered Charmed. In 8, it was obvious that no one really wanted to be there. It was very offensive to me that the whole alternate identities thing plus Billie was thrown in to give the main three actresses time off. If they didn't want to be there so badly, it should have ended. Can't argue with those. 6 especially, was when the sisters were at their all time worse, but it was no longer about three sisters who happen to be witches anymore. I really do think S1-3 and S4-8 are both separate.
I would have been thrilled if it ended at 7, for how bad the show got, at least the half part of S7 was somewhat decent, not perfect, but at least I would have been happy with how it ended with 7, because at least the finale was sisterly centric compared to S8, now I still don't think it was that good, but compared to Forever crap, it was a better finale to have ended the show on.
Yeah S7 would have at least ended Charmed on a somewhat decent note, if S8 never happened. Least we can imagine what happens to them after this, and neither Phoebe or Paige have all those children. Now if Henry was introduced earlier and Phoebe had her unborn child from Drake, and found out she was pregnant in the last episode, that could end that way. Maybe the manor explodes in SWTWC from the vanquish with Zankou, and we never see what happens next. Least if it exploded, and they were astral projection forms they'd have no reason to stick around, and go off somewhere else. I would have been happy if it ended after S4. But if we had to sit through any seasons after this, just end it at 7.

I could see those happening. But the show was better off ending at 4, and doing a spin-off named, called Charmed: Spin-off (whatever the title would be). But something like that, to separate it from the original four season run.

I'm surprised S4 has so many votes, while thr 2nd half of the season wasnt the greatest the first half was really strong.

I'm surprised S4 has so many votes, while thr 2nd half of the season wasnt the greatest the first half was really strong. I'm guessing it is directed more towards the 2nd half for sure. Given how I know many fans don't like the Phoebe/Cole arc, especially the 2nd half of S4. I agree, I think the first half was alright, still not perfect, but better than the 2nd half.
It is interesting S7 has the least votes from the 2nd half of the series. It was one of the few seasons, where the recurring cast was strong with Zankou, Drake and The Seer, but still parts of it I didn't like, but it isn't as bad as some of the others.

I'm a new member to this board who's been a huge Charmed fan as long as she remembers. As I continue to remember more and more about the show and how flawed it was (mainly later seasons) I have to vote Season 5. The complete retconning of the Phoebe/Cole arc dragged on for far too long (did it seriously need to last half the season?) and it issued a huge double standard revolving Cole that I couldn't find anything but short on disgusting. In pretty much every evil warlock/being who's bad, but turned good scenario we've seen the sisters give second chances and allow them to be redeemed out of personal interest. Yet for some reason Cole doesn't get this why exactly? Why is it just Cole who's got the finger pointed at him? Especially when the sisters knew in Season 4 Cole was possessed by the source and Phoebe chose that path.
Not only that I think this season wastes a lot of potential that could've been spent building up to many things. Piper's pregnancy could've been better explored other than just making her pregnant with literal Jesus baby, Phoebe could've had an interesting story about wrong choices and denial, in fact watching the first 12 episodes of Season 5 it did seem like they built a platform for that kind of arc, but made it about everyone hating Cole. Which is a shame because having an arc where Phoebe's in denial about her wrong choices would've been a great conflict, but instead she's relegated to being useless in battle and continuing her path to being the worst Charmed One. Meanwhile Paige is the only decent one out of the bunch who's love for magic gets treated to a background trait.
Even though Piper is my favorite sister I did get annoyed with her this season with her increased aggression toward Leo. Not only that but they completely rid the viewer to have any tension with Penny's death by just making her corporeal any time she wants. The Walt Disney fairytale shift was a stupid change of pace for the show wanting to use ideas outside of a darker tone and only served to promote shameless fanservice. It's a filler season you could take away and nothing would happen.
I also hate Season 7, continuity seemed to just go out the window with this season as rules became increasingly more ignored and the Avatar storyline is among the worst in the show. Charmmegeddon is my least favorite Charmed episode because of the sister's "solution" to end everything. Which ultimately ended up being for themselves. Season 6 was boring as well.

Season 5 was the beginning of the end in a lot of ways. It could have been a wonderful season to take a step back and reassess all that had happened, showing how Piper and Phoebe have come to terms with Prue's death, having Phoebe quit her job and take time to heal and acknowledge her mistakes with Cole, and letting Paige keep her job.
Piper could have been pregnant with a normal baby, and the whole season could have set the tone for the second half of the show. Maybe Phoebe gets back into magic like she was in seasons 1-2 as a way of atoning for what she did. Paige could grow closer to her sisters now that they've had time to properly mourn Prue and all the Cole drama could be done (I'd prefer him to stay gone after season 4).
I could see season 5 as still being a filler kind of season, but at the same time it's an important time of growth and starting on new paths for everyone that sets the tone for later seasons. Paige would never lose sight of her previous self, Phoebe could be the fun sister again, and with a normal baby, Piper could perhaps be a happier mother.

Personally I think Phoebe's arc would've been more interesting in Season 5 had it been a storyline about Phoebe experiencing denial and bad decisions. She could've spent the Cole segment blaming him, but doing so in such a way that coexists with her own denial. Ultimately coming to the realization her share of mistakes in the situation and learning to evolve from bad decisions, something she's always had a history with. Plus the extra focus on her column at work could've served as a "get away" spot for her denial. She easily could've used that to cope with the denial and then afterwards both she and Cole could've had the same conclusion of not meant to be, but in a way that calls Phoebe out on her part while having Cole just not be capable of doing the good he thinks he's doing. Cole's big suicide moment could've served as the tipping point. I agree Cole should've stayed gone after Season 4. Especially since his entire motivation upon returning is being Phoebe's stalker/obsesser.

Bumping this up given other discussions on deleting a season.
S5 could have been such a good season if it reset of sorts. Leaving Cole behind in S4 where he belonged. Phoebe going through some healing and focus on that and wanting to be an aunt to her upcoming niece being born, no love interests for Phoebe in S5 at all, or she does have Miles, but after Miles decides to not jump into a new relationship anytime soon so no Jason, and Paige getting the promotion as a social worker.
Piper's pregnancy being the only arc of S5.
As others have suggested on the board before, Phoebe gets in touch with her old self, and is the one to quit her job and gets back into magic like she was in seasons 1-2 as a way of atoning for what she did, and slowly healing from everything in S3 and S4 in the process, and just wants to be an aunt. She'd go back to wanting to help innocents.
Piper would give birth to a regular daughter, who isn't special or twice blessed, but a new child will change the household for everybody in the process.
And Paige happy to do what she loves being a social worker with her promotion.

I'm not a fan of Seasons Five to Eight. But . . . for me, Season Eight was a complete crapfest. It was just awful to me. Yeah, the show wasn't the same especially when Kern was fully in control, and all the talented writers who made the show great in S1-3 were long gone. Then Holly and Alyssa being producers didn't help either. Didn't help that I looked up to Piper in the earlier seasons, and then after she changed for the worse, she became everything I NEVER wanted to become when I got older, and no longer my role model. If the show ended after S4, I'm sure we'd feel differently. Too bad, it didn't end after 4, and they instead did a spin-off series after this season, I'm sure Rose would be thrilled to be out, and did it so only one sister kept her powers, while the other gave them up. I've seen someone make some interesting ideas on this on the board, but I forgot who?

Season 8 is the most poorly written season. Here's why it's not seasons 1-7 for me.
Season One: A slow but committed start. It's not a perfect season because it's not a perfect show, but it is endearing. The show's focus on heritage, family, supernatural and romance were all slowly introduced which allowed the characters and their world to soak in.
Season Two: Morality Bites is pretty much A-game television, for Charmed. It pretty much doesn't get better than MB. The overall season doesn't really have a major plot, unfortunately, and Piper's treatment of Dan and Leo deserved a lot more insight. The season also has She's A Man, Baby...So, uh, it's not the best but it's far, far from the worst.
Season Three: This is considered the best season of Charmed among fans, it seems. The show isn't cute anymore and it feels fierce. The writing tries to give the characters more complexity. I wish the show had gone further beneath the surface because there could have been 10x the conflict. That being said, the storylines were still captivating, especially Phoebe and Cole's storyline.
Season Four: An iconic game changer. Season four deserves some credit for losing not just any character but probably the biggest component on the show and still releasing a more than half decent season. Things could have gone a lot worse (see Charmed remake). No, it's not perfect. The excuse they gave us for why the Haliwells couldn't see Prue was insanely dumb/unnecessary - it's a show about magic, literally any unsolvable magical reason would have worked other than 'you seeing her prevents you moving on.' The second half of the season with Phoebe was confusing because she clearly chose to be with Cole and she never got any consequences, other losing love (which wasn't enough considering she's responsible for innocents lost). The Source was vanquished too soon as well. But these are things that irritate me, though don't take away from the entertaining quality of the season. Paige was brought in nicely and maybe they could have slowed it down, but she was came in a strong character at least.
Season Five: It was a mess before it even started. Piper didn't need those kids and neither did the show. An all powerful baby was definitely not needed. Cole's treatment was not needed. The fairy tale creatures and lighter magical creatures were also not needed. Phoebe was also pretty unlikeable with having to do nothing but work or blame everything on Cole. Season five isn't unwatchable, so that's good. There's a lot of entertaining qualities due to the magical mishaps and demon battling. Not so much going on in the character department in terms of growth. If the show ended here, this would be the worst season.
Season Six: But season six is worse. If season five solidified Charmed as 'so bad it's good,' then season six took it another level. Someone obviously got very excited about the Charmed future and decided it wasn't enough to focus on the three sisters, but their children (well, Piper and Phoebe's - which would be the case for the remainder of the series) even though they still had a lot of growth to go through. In season six it was if they learned nothing and two of the trio definitely weren't interesting in helping anyone but themselves. It must have been frustrating in the writers room. I highly doubt any of them wanted the season to turn out the way it did though still they should be proud because Charmed at this level of badness was still something to watch. They went to the 60s and it made no sense, what's not to love! One thing I will say is that during a rewatch I actually thought Piper and Paige had chemistry this season where I actually felt that Piper really did love Paige like a sister. Their relationship is undervalued, IMO, by fans but that's not without good reason.
Season Seven: A better season with an unfortunate start (Leslie). The show wasn't what it used to be but at least there was an effort to regain some of that luster. The season could have used brief appearances from old innocents or friends, or memorable foes. It's too bad the season lacks the elements that made Charmed endearing or fierce, but it's not the worst season. The sisters had more likable moments, as a trio and as individuals, this season even if they weren't as popular as before. But why did Paige have to become a whitighter when all other whitelighters have a choice?
Season Eight: Finally, the worst season. The concept could have been something if the show hadn't written the sisters as hero's when clearly Christie was right. Only Billie has to live with killing her sister, who had she been fortunate to have the Halliwell last name would have been saved, while the Charmed Ones get their happy ending! It's soo messy. The fact that Paige had a line asking how the source was vanquished was so sloppy it's laughable. This was the show's eighth season and I'm sure there were many factors that led to this season being a mess, but it's still the worst season for simply not being Charmed.

This was the show's eighth season and I'm sure there were many factors that led to this season being a mess, but it's still the worst season for simply not being Charmed. I don't like Billie or Christy as characters, nothing about them is well developed or interesting enough to warrant an entire focus on them. However I DID root for them to kill the sisters because in Season 8 I HATED all of them! Especially Piper who deserved it the most with her constant threats to blow people up ( I still hated that spell she used to turn reporters into rodents), her unwarranted aggressive attitude ( Billie should've slapped her for her I'm older and what I think counts more comment* ) and her showing no confliction in trying to vanquish Billie when she was suppose to be their friend simply because all she wanted was to get Leo back over the greater good. When Leo was taken away by the Angel of Destiny as punishment for Piper simply so she has the motivation to fight. Phoebe deserved it for how's she's been since Season 3 and generally how she manipulated Dex Lawson into a false marriage, then used Billie's self reflection of said marriage to go through with the outcome.. Correction I think Piper and Phoebe deserved to die, Paige not so much. While she did have a selfish streak and started acting very shriekish like Phoebe and Piper, once Paige meets Henry she reverts back into her old personality and becomes the likable one of the sisters again, but she's just as bad when it comes to how they treat Billie in the first 8 episodes. Not to mention all the stuff Piper and Phoebe have done for the past 4 seasons leading up to it ( past 6 for Phoebe and 4 with Piper), Christy's rant to Billie about the sisters being selfish holds some weight to it with them faking their deaths to ignore innocents and their destiny, them bartering with destiny such as them teaming up with the Avatars to have their own utopia and only taking it back when they realized their own losses and them using Billie for their own benefit , Christy just went about it in the worst way. There's also how the sister's treat their magical allies in Gone with the Witches when they used the leprechauns as canon fodder to scope out demons, then have the gall to play the victim when they turn against them. Especially when the leprechauns have done nothing but help the sisters and all the sisters gave them in return was them using their luck for personal gain, having their allies killed in the battle against Zankou and then being used as canon fodder to scope out demons at magic school. Also the sisters are for some reason against leprechauns throughout the season.. The sister's did nothing but use their luck for personal gain in return Speaking of Billie was being used by the sisters for personal benefit, they did nothing to teach her the craft at all besides reading the BoS, they spend their time complaining at her when she wants to fight demons and only care about how her fighting demons will expose them. Paige is really the only one of the three sisters who actively works with her, Piper just acts aggressive toward her and shows no conflict in treating her like a demon the moment she acts as an obstacle to get Leo back. While Phoebe does give Billie her room (which is about the only good thing they do for her along with saving her from the virus) she spends the rest of the time obsessing over her condo or her goal in wanting dates or babies. The sisters also constantly want Billie to stop finding her sister when it gets in the way of their personal lives. Such as when Piper complains at her when it inconveniences Wyatt's birthday party. The episode The Jung and the Restless is a good showcase of how Paige is much better than Piper and Phoebe. Paige is the only one of the sister's Billie lets free when Paige realizes her charge is in trouble and goes to help her, meanwhile Piper and Phoebe's desires play out of their full extent showcasing how their desires are entirely self focused. For one the sisters spend the first 9 episodes wanting nothing to do with magic or helping people its literally a season that just exists to show how selfish they are. Then on top of that they treat their magical allies like glorified servants with the worst offenders being the leprechauns who they spend a lot of the season stating how much they don't like them... When it comes to Piper/Leo/Dan triangle in Season 2. I agree how Piper treats them isn't very good at all, especially when she only dates Dan out of "I can't have my way with Leo so I'll choose the rebound" but to be fair Leo and Dan don't come off unscathed either and at least Piper by the end makes it more clear with Leo and actually chooses to break up with Dan instead of leading him on and cheating on him. Then Dan comes in and ruins it. But I don't think Piper's merits outside of the triangle is judged enough, sure later it is where her "I don't wanna be a witch" starting getting grating, however Piper was still soft spoken and willing to do her job, Awakened, Astral Monkey and the beginning of Apycalspes Not are good examples of Season 2 Piper being a good character.

I still count Season 6 as my least liked season and the one that almost got me to quit Charmed and stop watching, for how unlikeable they were. And it the only season, I dislike all three, and the Chris arc, although may have had potential, was poorly executed, not really their fault, when they learned Holly was pregnant and had to rewrite the arc.
The earlier seasons were about protecting the innocent and S6 is when they went against everything they stand for and spoke about in 'Morality Bites'. Especially Hyde School Reunion and taking Darryl's soul without his permission in Valhalley Of The Dolls. They're supposed to protect the innocent, not punish the guilty. And creating sex objects and men, turning people into animals because they annoyed them, moaning because they have to help an innocent. It's just too much. Some rare cases though like Paige in 'Soul Survivor' was okay and I liked Little Monsters.
The writing for the sisters was at an all-time low for all three this season.
But, the second half of S4 was very badly written.
I looked at my choices, and I voted for S5 and S6, I switched S5 to S4.

Just remember that this is NOT a thread about which is your least-favorite season - there are other threads for that. This one is for the seasons you don't like but if the characters had been written differently, you may have liked it. As I wrote when this thread was first started: Season 4 and Season 6 - it's because of how they're written that I don't like them. Other seasons I don't like because of what happened. But had these two seasons been written better - the Phoebe/Cole story and the Chris/Wyatt story - I'd love them. All I have to do is read P3Nathan's "Final Season" and Kalvana's "Future Consequences" to know that. Then years later, just a few months ago, I wrote this: I would have preferred Cole staying dead in LLTQ and Season 5 taking a lighter angle like Season 2. If on top of this Piper gave birth to Melinda, and PhoeME would have come back to being Phoebe and Paige remained a Social Worker, it could have possibly been one of the best written seasons of Charmed. Was rereading this thread and found this. Oh, Rebooted! YES! YES! YES! Agree with all of this totally! And if the executive producer was thinking in these directions, then maybe S6 would've been better written because the sisters would be tolerable. I've changed my votes from S4 and S6 to S5 and S6. Although I still hate S4 (and, no, I don't like the earlier episodes either--it's too dark and too scary for me) more than S5, I agree with Rebooted - had S5 been written differently, it could've made S6-8 tolerable.

If this happened. Maybe it would improve S5 and I'd love it and if it meant the sisters are better written going into S6-S8, great. If Piper had a daughter than a son, I'd be happier . Too bad they didn't find another way to work around Holly's pregnacy with Hollywood magic and tricks. Piper was only pregnant on-screen for 6 episodes near the end. Half the time she was given less screentime and at magic school. I'll always wonder if Chris was suppose to be the big bad coming after Wyatt. Especially his actions in early S6 and even killing to keep his secret. That's what I thought from Chris at the start of S6.

I guess It might be season 8. And not because it's the worst one for me (I just can't cope with season 6). Both the fake identities and Billie and Christy plotlines were almost great concepts. But extremely poorly handled. I even feel like the wanting a normal life selfish thing could have been understable and interesting to see. But then the sisters should have been justified as characters.
I feel like no one felt passion for the job at this point (I'm sure they didnt care for rewrites that much) and you can clearly notice how things were not even checked to avoid continuity mistakes. They knew thay had nothing left to lose and were not concerned about giving it the right twist.
In addition, last episode was a joke (I'm more or less OK with Kill Billie Vol. 2).

Seasons 6 and 8 all the way. Reasons: 6 is all over the place primarily because of Combs pregnancy and future boy Chris flat story line (too Back to the Future rip-off for my taste). Although like a double edge sword I can also appreciate this season because Phoebe is rightfully punished for her crap (sorry if I was not allowed to curse) behavior and abusing her Charmed duties. She loses her powers and her love interest. As for season 8, I abhorred Kaley Cuoco she's annoying and whinier than Piper but somehow more ditzy than Paige. I seriously can't help but wonder how Brad Kern managed that?
