You're right in me having wanted the girls to have found a different way to get a soul for Valhalla as I found it disrespectful that Darryl said no and they ignored him anyway despite having been a family friend for so long. Yeah, networks interfering with shows erks me as well especially when someone has an idea that gets thrown out of the window. Losing Leo would've explained what happened with Piper in that episode in terms of Excalibur etc. I would've loved to have seen the Sword and the City arc as the two-parter, it would've been really interesting. The Network really has a hand in things. Charmed had so many parties. You had what the producers Spelling/Duke etc. thought, you had Kern's take, you had the actors take Shannen, Holly etc. and then you had the Network. All these parties couldn't get along and compromise and work well together.

Would make for an interesting book the real book of Shadows behind the scenes It's very interesting as CHARMED feels like an anomaly in vult television Whilst it's so pioneering in many ways being a hugely successful series in its own right and being female cast heavy at the forefront too really bent the rules a bit ...it never pushed to the levels of Buffy like to me Buffy is forever the standard many want to reach yet Charmed is the success that most shows wish they could reach ...if that makes sense ...like for nearly a decade it rated well and stood out And since it came to an end 18(!!) Years ago it's legacy lives on and there's so many references since that I feel respect need to be put in it's name for sure Like for me season 6 fans seem to love to bash but I feel it's overall a really solid season ...season 7 despite a could issues is nearly as strong as season 3 and 4 for me too bar a couple tweaks it would've been perfect

As Shannen put it on her podcast. 90210 was always the bigger more successful show, but Charmed has a better loyal fanbase. When she compares the two on which one has more of a legacy and shelf life long after it ended. S6 is more re-watchable (yes we have some stinkers) but its a season to watch if you want to relax and chill. I feel your pain. LOL almost like they went into the Xena amazon costume department. They could've taken inspiration from Xena's Valkyries. Like@missjessica pointed out, likely just marketing and they wanted them to look sexy, not accurate like the costumes Xena had being more true to Norse mythology.
I think in Charmed's case, it had more to do with the producers making the show in regards to LGBT characters. I'm sure Spelling was much more old school minded. But you're right, so much untapped potential in that regard.
That's a good point, there's fans who watch for the sisterhood and relationships, and don't care for the Supernatural and magical stuff and others who like the magic and supernatural elements. I tend to fit more in the middle. As someone who is very attracted to supernatural elements in shows having watched Buffy, Angel and Supernatural.
Every season has something in it that is watchable. I'd never toss out every season. But S1-S3 might be the best quality wise. I think its judged too harshly (especially S6). It has its pros and cons like you said.
Absolutely THIS I mean lunchking it's bizarre how the marketing went all out there trying to get male gaze not male gays hehe I reckon spelling was definitely a limiting factor there in terms of having more progressive stories in charmed like gay capital of the universe and diverse in backgrounds not every male had to be a love interest for the sisters Wasted potential there imo to really venture these things and explore different threats It really was. Much like Supernatural marketing to be a show for guys, when they attracted more female fans in the end. LOL Not that certain shows can't be for anybody regardless of gender. It's just really interesting to see who they market certain shows for. Yeah, It was just how Spelling one. He kept to his template and never really changed it, its just how all his shows are. I did wish the show was diverse in all areas, and expanded it from just being about the sisterhood and PO3, you can go beyond them, and their love interests. More males who are not love interests, more female supporting characters (unpopular opinion that I didn't mind Billie, and what she brought, a different perspective and a different sisterhood and a new female ally). It didn't have to be sisters sisters sisters 24/7. They really could've expanded the show way more than they did. They had so many good concepts and stories that were wasted. Charmed was always marketed as a show to be watched in any order. It's not meant to be a binge watched show you follow a story through, but one that when you turn on the television, you can sit down and watch whatever episode is playing. Spelling produced all his shows that way (or so has been said in interviews from the cast).

I think I understand the S6 criticisms, now. After doing my list for the Create Your Own Perfect Season thread, I noticed how S6 is actually quite last when it pertains to "Save the innocent" type of episodes. Even S8 & S5 surpass it, as far as those kinds of episodes, go. I still don't think S6 is a terrible season, even if it isn't as "save the innocent" friendly as other seasons. It still pulls some interesting mythology and stories even if repeated. But, I definitely understand where the anti-S6 crowd are coming from, now.

It really depends on what you want from the show.
If you're looking for a bunch of innocents to protect like Tonya from S1E8 "The Truth is Out There...and it Hurts", Eric Bragg from S2E7 "They're Everywhere", Cristopher & Brooke from S3E2 "Magic Hour", etc., then yes, S6 is the worst, in that department. Possibly tied with S8, but I digress. The only real type of "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)" episodes (without recycling/repeating/reusing characters, sets, storylines, etc.) would be S6E7 "Soul Survivor" and S6E9 "Little Monsters". That would be the extent of how S6 deals/handles "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)" types of episodes. I'll even throw in S6E5 "Love's a Witch", S6E14 "The Legend of Sleepy Halliwell" and S6E15 "I Dream of Phoebe" despite recycling/repeating/reusing characters, sets, storylines, etc. Only FIVE episodes, out of 23.
If you're looking for episodes that flow really well with one another (especially fillers) S6 is NOT the worst. Especially with episodes like S6E4 "The Power of Three Blondes", S6E10 "Chris-Crossed", S6E16 "The Courtship of Wyatt's Father", etc. It's an easy season to flow through and follow along with. While, S5 may have the stronger edge in "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)", the execution and flow of S5 is poorly handled and hard to get through compared to S6.
Even if S5 does a better job in power handling than S6, I still think S6's storytelling outshines all of that via "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)" and Power Handling/Usage.
With that being said, I still understand the criticisms S6 receives, but I don't really think anyone has done a really good job at explaining it. Yes, S6 is VERY different from what we're used to, in the show but that doesn't mean it's bad. In fact, even if seasons ATTEMPT to stick with the whole "Protect/Save the Innocent(s)" formula, it's execution in story doesn't really do it's goal justice, and this is where S6 outshines that.
I still don't think S6 is the worst, however. I still don't believe it should be ranked dead last. MAYBE second to last but not dead last.

I voted Yes since season 6 was the season where I quit watching Charmed and Hyde School Reunion was my final episode. I didn’t even recognize the sisters I grew to love anymore, and I couldn’t stomach the effort to keep watching and hoping they’d change. I did see the back half of S7 and liked it. Since I've never seen S8 in full apart from a few episodes, this season is the one that disappointed me the most. Had I seen S8 in full, maybe I'd feel differently. I recently finished watching Baby's First Demon in Season 5 with my niece (first time watcher) and I feel like that's a nice place to leave it. Piper has a baby who is safe with a forcefield and a magical law protecting him Phoebe has had Miles as a rebound and shes happy again after Cole, meeting Jason, who wants to further her career. Paige is brave, independent and honoured as a family member and we've seen her progress a little as a whitelighter. Cole, The Seer, Source and his potential successors are vanquished. Baby's First Demon (Belongs to Seasons 1-5) Below I classify belonging to Season 6 or a part of Charmed I delete (avoid) Lucky Charmed Cat House Nymphs Just Want to Have Fun Sense and Sense Ability Necromancing the Stone Oh My Goddess (1) Oh My Goddess (2) All of Season 6 A Call to Arms The Bare Witch Project Cheaper by the Coven Charrrmed! Styx Feet Under Once in a Blue Moon Where it starts up again: Someone to Witch Over Me I don't mind watching until Forever Charmed. Season 8 isnt the best but I don't mind how it wraps up.

I used to advocate so hard for S6 but now, I think it's on par with being tied with the rest of the S5-S8 listing. I can't decide which is worst, anymore due to ALL of those seasons being equally lacking. I've grown disappointed with S6, over the years. Only my memories of liking it will it still hold a special place in my heart. Other than that, my S5-S8 love is mood dependent, these days.

Season 6 I loved them and still love Season 5 after a FANTASTIC fourth season felt such a step down but in time I realised it was a course change creatively and I do love season 5 just that after having four seasons of greatness this season felt a real slap in the face in a way ...love it though and on rewatches I still think it holds up
Season 6 when it launched felt like YES back to arc and mysteries again and expanding mythology a fair bit ...loved the Chris stuff, loved Phoebe's odyssey, loved Paige exploring with her temp jobs , Leo became a more fleshed out character finally ...Piper was barely in it ...overall a WIN for me and that finale is iconic two partner!
Season 7 is disappointing comparatively as I feel they introduced so many elements that never got the pay off we hoped for was thankful we had season 8

I really do like episodes like Spin City that really bring Chris's character development out. I dont think episodes like Chris Crossed develop his character, rather just revealled that Wyatt was evil. The Bianca thing should have been more of an arc. The sisters split up at the end, for just 1 episode.
Season 6 reminds me of LOST where each episode gives a little hint or clue as too what is going on which keeps you coming back - but then the end is lame.
For some reason I like watching Witch Wars.
Inspector Sheridan for me was hard to take seriously as a Cop/inspector. She was more like a model.
How they treat Daryl in Season 6 is particularly disgusting.
Omg when I see Phoebe dressed up as the I Dream of Jeannie outfit even with the blonde wig - I am just like - why didnt they just start of Something Wicca This Way Comes with 3 sisters with warts, big noses and big black hats. Its just lazy and makes 2x22 look like a good episode when it really wasn't.

No matter if I like nor dislike S6, I have to disagree that it's anything like "Lost". What disappoints me with S6 is Piper's attitude, lack of ORIGINAL powers being used and less "protect/save the innocent" type of episodes.
S6 has ONLY two unique "protect/save the innocent" type of episodes that don't feel like recycled/repeats/reuse stories via S6E7 "Soul Survivor" & S6E9 "Little Monsters".
And, Paige does NOT even use EITHER of her TK-Orbing NOR Orbing power, in S6E7 "Soul Survivor" which sucks.
I will say Piper is more tolerable in S6E9 "Little Monsters". It's Phoebe who gets on my nerves, this time around.
I'm not gonna say S6 does NOT have a lack of Power Balance because technically speaking most of the episodes have ALL THREE sisters using their powers/abilities (mostly, their SECONDARY/THIRD version of their abilities, though). The ONLY exceptions are the folliwing (I'll even be generous):
S6E7 "Soul Survivor" S6E15 "I Dream of Phoebe" S6E16 "The Courtship of Wyatt's Father" S6E19 "Crimes & Witch Demeanors" S6E20 "A Wrong Day's Journey Into Right" S6E21 "Witch Wars" S6E23 "It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad World, Pt 2"
You can see how most of it has Holly being parked off to the side due to her pregnancy. Otherwise, if I didn't care about Power Balance (mostly, ORIGINAL powers) nor "Protect/Save the Innocent" type of episodes, S6 still isn't all that bad. The only episodes I really can't stand are the following:
S6E12 "Prine Charmed" S6E20 "A Wrong Day's Journey Into Right" S6E21 "Witch Wars"
I have a slight (not a whole lot, though) appreciation for S6E13 "Used Karma". One of the more rare episodes where not only ORIGINAL powers are used but a PO3 spell was used, as well. Jason's too much of a recycled/repeat/reuse of a character to really be considered an "innocent" but close enough. I just don't like the obvious oversexualization of Alyssa Milano, in this episode. That's really what drags this episode down, for me. Otherwise, it's not a bad episode per se.
Just to clear things up.

I've decided to repeat my post from the first page because I still feel that way. Even though I hate S6 more, I think S8 was the most disappointing one. I remember how excited we were when we found out that there would be an 8th season - and then how disappointed we were when we had to tolerate Billie, the star of the season. I remember how disappointed I was when Piper treated Leo like her own little errand boy and totally emasculated a man who was raised in the 20s/30s when the men took care of their women who took care of the children and had given up immortality for love of her. Then she had the NERVE to be upset when he was frozen! Man, I hated her, especially when she used her magic to make her look like the best mother without any sort of backlash! And for HER to be the one who lives sappily ever after? *shudder* Oh, did that disappoint me! Next I was SO disappointed when the Elders actually sent Coop to Phoebe because they were sorry that they'd messed up her love life. SAID WHAT???!!! But what disappointed me the most was when the Elders treated Paige as if she was a full whitelighter when she was still alive! And to have her forget that she helped vanquish the Source??!! *shudder* So much of the last season and S6 could've been so good, and yet neither were, mainly due to Chris and Billie, Kern's GaryStu and MarySue who took away attention from the ones who should've had it: the Charmed Ones. But I hated so much of S6 and because I did, it never disappointed me, while S8 disappointed me at every turn. And like I keep saying, I'm SO glad I hate S6 and was disappointed by S8 because fixing those horrible messes inspired so many fantastic fanfics where Chris and/or Billie are nothing like Kern's versions.

I Dream of Phoebe is iconic though I adored that episode so much it's one of my most rewatched episodes it's just so much fun and so much happens in it I can't help but love that Agreed with the Phoenix tribe of witches they could've expanded on them a lot more maybe Charmed ones Vs Phoenix then uniting a bit to fight off to save the future and aid Leo Phoebe and Paige to prevent Gideon from rising up maybe ?! Would've elevated stakes a bit I think Witch Wars I adore so so much like it's just absolutely excellent imo very inventive Agreed with Sheridan I often think how miscast she was in the role especially knowing how flat she would come across in season 7 overall sadly Like literally cast anyone else in the role ...like imagine Emma Caufield post Buffy in that role or something and have her and Charisma finally meet would've been fab

I'm kind of glad I did all the "Rank the Season" threads with my data and statistics criteria. Now, I feel a lot better regarding S6, now. It's S5 that disappoints me, the most. There's still some aspects about S6 that are disappointing but my overall enjoyment of S6 is still in tact. While S5 has some "better" components about it, my overall enjoyment of that season has never been fulfilling/satisfied, like I have with S6. So, I'm still going to defend S6, despite its flaws. After all my datamining, I think I'm set on my final conclusion.
I (personally) am no longer dissatisfied with S6, but I can see and understand how others can feel that way. The overall episode stories are still really good, even if the power balance (as in ORIGINAL powers/abilities) is off or lack of "protect/save the innocent(s)" episodes. It took a different approach, and I think it worked. I still don't believe it's better than (S1-S4) the Dark Era portion of the show, but I think it's the best in (S5-S8) the Light Era portion of the show. Even S8 does a better job than S5 in regards to holding some interesting episode stories, that grab my attention, and I'm not bored. Even if Phoebe is underutilized.

I too feel season 5 is very bipolar like it wants to resolve the Cole stuff it juggles Phoebe coping with having been queen of underworld and manipulated by him and juggles where the sisters are at in some ways but it both wants to continue the darker aspects AND wants to showcase it's more fairytale folklore element and the balance is wonky ....I love season 5 overall I say that I get enjoyment from all episodes including the leprechaun and nymph episodes but the standouts are leagues ahead of the others I dare say whereas season 6 whilst I adapts a more at any moment it'll shake up I dare say it's a better season for being so cohesive season 5 and 7 I dare say do more disappointing things than 6 and 8 imo anyway but I do love every season

Storytelling wise, I am invested in S6's world building: the Valkyries, the Montanas vs the Callaways, the Underworld AH, etc. But, OFC, this is all subjective.
I just wasn't that into S2 nor S4's world building: the camp in S2E8 "P3 H20" or Tyler in S4E12 "Lost & Bound". They just felt too tied/dependent to the main storylines (the camp because of Patty's death & Tyler's power for the Source rather than about Tyler, himself) being told and not their own independent thing like S6 was. While, yes, Leo was the catalyst to visiting Valhalla, Valhalla didn't need Leo to function, where I felt like BOTH the camp & Tyler needed the main storylines to exist. If this all makes sense LOL
The same way I feel the Montanas vs the Callaways wasn't dependent on Paige's Temp Job nor the Underworld AH. I like it, when the world building isn't dependent on the main plotline/characters in order to exist. That's my preference.

After doing my stat sheet for the Magical Witches vs Practicing Witches thread and seeing which episodes actually acknowledges the Charmed Ones specifically need to be the ones to perform either a spell, potion, magic, etc., I was surprised to see S6 being the victor. I really thought it would've been S3 or S4 but (to my surprise) was corrected that not everytime they said a spell, means it's a "PO3" spell despite S3 & S4 being spell chanting heavy compared to the other seasons even S6. But, not every PO3 situation requires a spell so again, really shocked that S6 acknowledges the need for the Charmed Ones, specifically vs any 'ol witch (magical or practicing).

Sometimes I feel like Season 5 was a bit more disappointing considering how successfully they made us believe and adapt to Paige and there being a long lost half whitelighter sister. Season 4 wrote the introduction of Paige quite well and Rose did a really good job.
The rushed but also drawn out storyline at the end of Season 4 did change the dynamic of the characters at the start of Season 5.
So I I had higher hopes for Season 5 considering how well they did with such uncertainty in Season 4 with a new character arriving and not knowing if they were going to be picked up.
There woudl have been such a relief to have been renewed for 3 years from Season 5 to 7 and that's when the complacency in the writing, editing, creativity went before it started to retain its former glory in parts of Season 7 and 8 again.
Season 6 was a let down mainly because the Chris storyline could have been better planned, thought about and executed better. But by his arrival in 5x22 I am already disapointed anyway. I did like The Eyes That Have It and am one of the few that thinks Centennial Charmed is a nice episode and a nice ending. The last cutest episode is Sense and Sensibilty for me and Baby's First Demon is the last best episode for me that really does end the story with evil vanquished and a progeny to pass things down too.
After Babys First Demon for me personally its complete rubbish from the rubbish its kinda already become.
Somehow still a guilty pleasure to watch !

I think Charmed was always a letdown with so many storyline potentials. I guess for me, I try to not let the main story-lines ruin my enjoyment of the show. I think Charmed has a benefit that it isn't serialized like so many shows are now. It's easier to watch any episode in any order. But rebooted. You bring up a good point. They did get renewed for 3 seasons at once. So you'd think that would help the show more so the writers can plot story lines without being worried they'd be cancelled. They had 3 seasons to actually map out and build on something. I personally really believe S6 had behind the scenes issues with Holly's pregnancy changing their original plans, and actor availability with Jason and Richard preventing the moving out storylines going nowhere. But some gems in S6.

They would have been stoked to have gigs in their late 20's and be cultural pop phenomenon and household names by this point. Brad Kern would be reviewing scripts from his bed and the WB would have just been caring about Sunday ratings. There are 3 lessons i have learned from the show 1. If its too good to be true... it is probably too good to be true (But go with it anyway!) 2. All good things must come to and end (for them to be considered good) 3. 'When 1 door closes, another one opens'.

Omg I hate s6 so much. To the point I stopped watching for awhile and Hyde School Reunion is my least favourite episode in the entire series. S8 is way better - Billie brought a freshness to it and it felt like s1 to me in some ways. Billie helped the sisters remind what they were about - protecting the innocent. Malice in Wonderland and Run Piper Run felt very much like early season episodes.
