PO3 vs Non-PO3

This has been on my mind, for awhile. I'm just not sure how to put this into words, to bring about discussion concerning the topic. Anyway, in my Magical Witches vs Practicing Witches thread, I had created a brief list of the PO3 being acknowledged as the ONLY ones to be able to do certain things, such as the following:

- Going back in time, to when Patty made the deal with Nikolas (wasn't specified then but because it took the PO3 to send them back, I'll count this as being a PO3 spell to "counter")
- The Charmed Ones being sent back to their own time

S2E1 "Witch Trial"
Grams said it was going to take the "PO3" (as a "PO1") to get their BOS back, from Abraxas.

S2E10 "Heartbreak City"
Cupid says to Phoebe, it'll take the Charmed Ones to whip up a spell, to "send him back" (wherever Cupids' places of residence will be) without his ring.

S2E22 "Be Careful What You Witch For"
Leo says Dragon Warlock requires the PO3 to vanquish.

S3E3 "Once Upon a Time"

These are the brief listings I came up with that are DISTINCTLY what the Charmed Ones MUST handle. Otherwise, other witches can handle the other ones with their own potions/spells/magic/powers. To my own surprise, it appears that S6 does the better job in acknowledging the Charmed Ones are special and gave them PO3 specific things to deal with LOL

And, the S8E5 "Rewitched" episode really got me thinking how the show failed to acknowledge their PO3 legacy. In S8E5 "Rewitched", Billie is a magical witch (versus being a practicing one, that we're used to seeing, in the show) meant to help aide the Charmed Ones in battling demons/protecting the innocent. Unfortunately, for Billie, she's unable to handle/deal with "PO3" type of threats. She said very clearly she can take care of the Imp Master threat, only eliminating half of the problem. Which got me thinking about other threats the Charmed Ones have faced/"dealt with" and how wasteful a lot of those threats were in promoting this "PO3" idea. I can imagine Billie taking care of most (not all) of the other threats the Charmed Ones had dealt with in the past. Threats such as the following (in S1-S2):

S1E4 "Dead Man Dating" - Yama & Tony Wong
S1E5 "Dream Sorcerer" - Dream Sorcerer/Burman
S1E6 "The Wedding from Hell" - Hecate...maybe, I mean the Charmed Ones didn't really vanquish her, either, they delivered a knife, which ANYONE can do, but I digress.
S1E7 "The Fourth Sister" - Kali
S1E8 "The Truth is Out There...and it Hurts" - Gavin
S1E9 "The Witch is Back" - Matthew Tate
S1E10 "Wicca Envy" - Rex & Hannah
S1E11 "Feats of Clay" - Guardian of the Urn...although, ANYONE could've helped Clay...
S1E12 "The Wendigo" - The Wendigo
S1E13 "From Fear to Eternity" - Barbas
S1E14 "Secrets & Guys" - Mickey & David
S1E16 "Which Prue is it, Anyway?" - Gabriel
S1E17 "That 70s Episode" - Nikolas especially since he wouldn't be immune to Billie's powers
S1E18 "When Bad Warlocks Go Good" - The Rowe Coven
S1E19 "Out of Sight" - The Grimlocks...they only require a potion
S1E20 "The Power of Two" - Jackson Ward
S1E21 "Love Hurts" - Alec
S1E22 "Deja Vu, all Over, Again" - Tempus & Rodriguez

S2E2 "Morality Bites" - Allow Phoebe to burn...I mean, ANYONE can do that LOL
S2E3 "The Painted World" - Trap Malcolm & Jane in the painting and let it burn LOL
S2E4 "The Devil's Music" - Masselin...another just a potion vanquish
S2E5 "She's a Man, Baby, a Man!" - Succubus, maybe Billie would need Christy to help her out or someone with psychic abilities. I mean, it didn't matter who was "the man"
S2E6 "That Old Black Magic" - Tuatha...I mean, only "the Chosen One" could vanquish her, so it's not like the Charmed Ones were really needed, here...
S2E7 They're Everywhere" - Collectors
S2E8 "P3 H20" - Water Demon
S2E9 "Ms. Hellfire" - Barbas, Bane & Hellfire
S2E10 "Heartbreak City" - Drazi...another potion vanquish
S2E11 "Reckless Abandon" - Elias...another potion vanquish or just stand there as their innocent kills themselves, like the Charmed Ones did, I mean really?
S2E12 "Awakened" - Just let Leo do his thing?
S2E13 "Animal Pragmatism" - Snake & Rabbit
S2E14 "Pardon My Past" - Anton
S2E15 "Give Me a Sign" - Litvack...though, the Charmed Ones didn't really vanquish him, Bane (a non-witch did, but I digress)
S2E16 "Murphy's Luck" - the Darklighter
S2E17 "How to Make a Quilt Out of Americans" - Cryto, though Billie needs two other companions, as it takes three to send Cryto back, not necessarily the PO3, though
S2E18 "Chick Flick" - Demon of Illusion, Billie can easily mimic what Prue did with her TK
S2E19 "Ex Lbiris" - Libris, it's not a PO3 spell, ANY witch can say it/cast it
S2E20 "Astral Monkey" - Dr. Williamson, the main goal was to just have him drink a potion which ANYONE can make

And, there's MANY more episodes like this, even in S3-S8, where the PO3 isn't really required to be present for any of this. It really scratches my head as to WHY the show kept hounding them to be PRESENT at a lot of these fights because A LOT of them didn't really require the PO3...and, I showed how much Billie can equally accomplish, as much as the Charmed Ones accomplish, all on her own. Unless, we actually hit PO3 content, which I do have listed.

Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts and feel free to discuss further, if you wish. I may add S3-S8 later on, just to show how lackluster the "PO3" concept really is, and the need for ALL three of them to be there/present is kinda weird and bizarre, when the threats don't call for it...but I digress.

I feel the power of three was mainly used to symbolise the sisterhood between the Charmed Ones. Because the sisterhood lacked after season 4 mostly, it started getting less and less. By s8 it was so non-existent that it needed to be rebooted. Like the Power of Three is strong but Billie was also quite OP. I think they wrote her that way because her and Christy were supposed to parallel the Charmed Ones. Don't quote me on that though lol I haven't seen s8 in forever.

There are still some "sisterly" aspects in S5-S8. Some of my favorites are the following:

S6E5 "Love's a Witch" - Phoebe helping Piper get ready for her date
S6E13 "Used Karma" - Phoebe & Paige's double date dinner, in the beginning of the episode
S7E10 "Witchness Protection" - Piper making the dinner for Paige & Brody's date, and Phoebe helping Paige get ready for her date.
S8E17 "Generation Hex" - Phoebe wraps her arm around Paige, when she visits the Manor (after moving out) and joins them for breakfast

I mean, they're still going to try to add in sisterly moments but they just didn't feel as genuine as they were in s1-4. Yes, I'm going to include 4 in that because I loved the scene in Womb Raider with the power of three spell and Paige and Phoebe hide behind their big sister slightly.

I respect that ^_^ I can understand some people feeling that way but a lot of times I feel like they got too less as the seasons went on. They had also started getting older by s3.

Even if the threat doesn't require the "PO3" to be eliminated, I still find issues with certain seasons just having some of the sisters just standing there and NOT contributing to the fight, in any capacity, even if their contribution seems silly, at least it's something. I'mma only list S1 episodes to where this occurs (or they're not there, at all):

S1E4 "Dead Man Dating" - Phoebe was absolutely useless, when it really mattered the most. The best I can give her credit for, was standing in front of Yama's lance, I guess? Prue was doing most of the work in TKing, and Piper helped a little bit with her freezing. I understand Phoebe didn't have an active power, and this may seem unfair, but the first three episodes showcase spellcasting solutions, to include and properly involve her character, in the final fight/vanquish. So, I am glad, that later on, she learns Martial Arts, to help in non-spellcasting situations.

S1E6 "The Wedding from Hell" - This episode is fine up until the final fight/vanquish. All I got from their existence was delivering the dagger to Elliot...which I still don't understand on the why because the priest was equally holding it but couldn't banish Hecate but Elliot could? Make it make sense! No, I don't count the after thought editing of Prue "TKing" Hecate and her demon bride's maids into the dagger. It was an after thought and not how the scene reads, but I digress.

S1E8 "The Truth is Out There...and it Hurts" - Phoebe wasn't there, in the final vanquish/fight. Which, I understand she was staying at the Manor to keep Tanya safe but still.

S1E9 "The Witch is Back" - IDK if I would count them handing Melinda Warren potion ingredients as "contributing" to the final fight/vanquish. Again, like S1E4 "Dead Man Dating", Prue & Piper are the only ones contributing, here.

S1E10 "Wicca Envy" - Again, not fair to Phoebe because her "involvement" is absolutely obsolete, here. So, when people get angry at her for "bailing out" of her Charmed duties, what EXACTLY is she going to contribute, here?

S1E11 "Feats of Clay" - Clay saved himself. The Charmed Ones did nothing. Prue may have been able to TK the Guardian of the Urn a little bit but still wouldn't succeed.

S1E12 "The Wendigo" - I understand Piper was still "present" and did "freeze" the scene, but it still rubs me the wrong way because it was just going to be Prue & Phoebe, in the end who took turns shooting the flare gun.

S1E13 "From Fear to Eternity" - Piper wasn't there, first of all, and I'm irritated that Patty only sought out to save Prue but not like Phoebe (who was there)...this episode always rubs me the wrong way because it seemed like Patty (their mother) was playing favorites with Prue, but I digress.

S1E14 "Secrets & Guys" - Do I even really need to explain?

S1E19 "Out of Sight" - Piper wasn't there, granted there was a reason but still. Even the Piper character begged to continue to help but OFC Prue said "no", but I digress.

S1E20 "The Power of Two" - Piper wasn't there, again.

S1E21 "Love Hurts" - Piper wasn't there.

S1E22 "Deja Vu, all Over, Again" - Prue said BOTH the spell to "defeat" Tempus & TK'd Rodriguez's energy ball. What contributions did Phoebe & Piper offer?

The only episodes, in S1, I can think of, where ALL THREE of them contribute SOMETHING are the following S1 episodes:

S1E16 "Which Prue is it, Anyway?" - Phoebe uses her Martial Arts ability on Gabriel, Piper freezes Gabriel & Prue TKs Gabriel's sword into him.

S1E17 "That 70s Episode" - Prue TK's Nikolas, Piper freezes Nikolas, both Prue & Piper get the potion going, while Phoebe chants the spell to vanquish Nikolas.

S1E18 "When Bad Warlocks Go Good" - Piper attempts to freeze Brendan's brothers, Phoebe throws a dagger at them & Prue attempts to TK them. Despite them failing, at least they contributed SOMETHING instead of just STANDING there...

That is actually a good point. But it's like you said s1 was very Prue-centric and even the episodes that weren't focused on her were more character centric than PO3 centric. One of my fave episodes is actually Which Prue is it anyway? because it shows Prue's not really all that hot without her sisters and it did take her to treat Piper and Phoebe as her equals to defeat the demon whose name slips me...I just watched the episode recently too.

This is a great mixture of "all about Prue", while the conclusion is she can't do it, by herself. She needs her sisters alongside her, to "save the day". As a bonus, I like her "historical artifact" knowledge, in this episode, as well.

I did mention Gabriel in my post LOL "Gabriel" is his name, the villain (not sure if he's actually a demon) in S1E16 "Which Prue is it, Anyway?".

Yeah the show really wasn't well written making them a unit. I'll cut Piper some slack near the end of S1 due to Holly's surgery and needing to have less physical active plots fighting demons but still there's ways around that to help.

I look forward to your data for other seasons.

Gabriel is tricky to define. Is he a demon or demi God given he was the Lord of War. He may be his own thing or some kind of magical being.

I'm so bad with names and Gabriel is such a simple name. But yes though I guess to me what I view as the Power of Three is more them just being together even if they're not reading spells together. Like Thank You For Not Morphing, Phoebe might have brought them all together but it was mostly about them realising they need to work together. While I definitely agree S1 focused more on characterisation of the individual sisters, I also feel it had the best version of the sisters. I may be the only one but I really liked Piper with Josh, she seemed like a sweetheart with him.

It's too bad they ended it so soon. Josh could've been Piper's Mortal love interest in S2 than Dan. I know some members here suggested that a while back. Forget who. 😆

Josh feels more like "Jack" (somebody, somewhere, I can't remember where, said Josh is "another Andy", um no?), to me but a better fit and mold for Piper. He can help relax her and not have her feel so anxious, all of the time. Whereas, Dan would apply too much stress and pressure to Piper. Josh seemed very gentle with Piper, even when Piper was rejecting him. He's the perfect patient pursuer, for Piper. And, I think would be more open into magic due to the house's history and learning from the professor (Beth?) about it. He didn't seem too weirded out about it and probably would've reacted to it, similarly to Andy.

I'm not the only one who ships Piper/Josh and Prue/Jack?!?! Omg I feel so happy. I have very weird pairings that I shipped in Charmed despite also liking the canon ones. Lol but I can't get over the Prue and Dan moment in Chick Flick near the end with the hand touching. Lol 3 second chemistry. Not that I shipped them but it's so hilarious.
