Before I read your next section, I want to thank you for the great explanation. It really does make it make a lot more sense. Your explanation about witch/whitelighter makes plenty of sense, too; I never thought how diluted the witch's blood would be from Melinda Warren (who also probably wasn't pure witch) to the Charmed Ones. So the fact that Melinda is half-whitelighter is what gives her her great powers, the way Paige should.
If we see this as a spinoff of Charmed (saying that the series Charmed ended with Leo & Piper's wedding) with Melinda as the prime character and the others as supporting characters (including her cousins!), then, as I said, it makes a lot more sense. I guess we'll call this story the first episode of Charmed--the Next Generation or Charmed--a New Destiny, right?
Also, I'm glad to read that you were only kidding about being a loser; I wanted to make sure that you knew you weren't. My mom once told my niece that she conscientiously woke up each day and promised herself that she would have a good day. She also made a conscientious choice to be happy, because as Abraham Lincoln once said, some people are just about as happy as they make up their mind to be! That's been a tough thing for me to do, since I just lost Mom on March 10th, but I know she'd be upset if I didn't!! So if you (and any other reader) can keep up her tradition, it would be a great memorial to her!!
Now I've got to go read your next section; can't wait!!! This story just keeps getting better, and better and better! I love the interaction between Piper and Leo, and Leo and Melinda, and Melinda and her cousins! It was also nice to see Betty come back into the story--I hope she gets a chance to meet the whole crew soon--some interaction between her and the ghost of Grams could be hilarious!
I'm waiting for the Elders (and dodo Bob!) to get upset at this continuous interaction--especially if Piper and Leo start working on a little brother/sister for Melinda!!! I think they could be as dangerous as the Source for our happy clan and I'm *still* hoping for them to have a chance to kick some Elder a$$!!!!
Keep up the fantastic job and post some more, real soon!!!
P.S. I agree with the others--you really should write Charmed fiction for pay!!! CharmedAgainPiper Posts: 92 (3/28/04 4:36 pm) Reply sdf -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AWESOME!!! GREAT JOB!! KEEP IT GOIN!

CharmedFan12 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 373 (3/28/04 8:59 pm) Reply UC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, Esmeralda, I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your mom! She sounded like a wonderful woman, and she's very right. You choose to be happy or not; I learned that the harder way. People should also realize that maybe they have faults, but they can still live their lives to the fullest!
I have to tell you, I never thought of UC to be a spin off. I just have thought of it as an AU off of the show. But it's pretty cool to think of it like that also!
Would I be a terrible person if I said that I decided that it would be too complicated for them to have another kid? Yes, I would be a terrible person. But, they will HAVE to live happily ever after, won't they? That I will promise you. hehe.
Thanks also to CharmedPL and CharmedAgainPiper for your wonderful encouragement!
“What are you thinking about?” Leo didn’t take his eyes off from the pictures that he was looking at on the fridge. “All these shoulda coulda woulda’s keep flashing in my mind. All the things that we could have done differently. Ways that we could be together, all three of us,” he said, turning his gaze away from the him-less pictures to look into the compassionate eyes of the one he loved. “I know,” she responded softly. “What do we do now?”
“Make the most of the time that we have together, I guess,” Leo said. “It’s so hard, being near you, when I know that I won’t see you again after this… But I want more than anything to just be in your arms again…” Piper ranted, letting feelings escape through her lips to Leo that she had been feeling since he told her of his curfew, for lack of a better term. She held back fresh tears, and Leo enveloped her in his arms as she so badly wanted, and as he so badly wanted. “I love you Piper,” Leo said to her. She looked up with a smile. “I love you too.” His mouth found hers, and they kissed each other with a passion that most could only dream about. His hands went through her hair and down her body, and they moved into her bedroom, where they became each other as if it was the first and last time. Later that night, Piper woke up, looked up at Leo, and saw him looking at her. He kissed her head when he saw that she was awake, and held her close to him. “Hey,” he said quietly, and Piper smiled. “If only everything could be this perfect,” she said. “Yeah,” he said, drifting off into his thoughts. After a few moments, he said, “Tell me about Melinda.”
“What do you want to know?”
“Anything.”
“She’s kind and gentle…She always puts others above herself. She reminds me of you a lot,” Piper said, drawing invisible circles on his bare chest. He couldn’t say anything to this; he just smiled. Drifting off into thoughts once again, he caught Piper by surprise by speaking words that he had wanted to tell her for a really long time. “I’m sorry.” She looked into his eyes to see the same sincerity in them that filled his words. “Don’t be. You didn’t do anything.”
“Yeah I did. If I didn’t ask you to marry me, then none of this would have happened…If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have to deal with the burden of single parenthood…” “Stop blaming yourself. We couldn’t control what was meant to be, and we shouldn’t dwell on it,” Piper told him. “I have never blamed you, Leo. I have blamed the Elders, I have blamed destiny, I have blamed myself, but I haven’t blamed you, and I don’t believe at all that any of this is your fault. The last thing I want is for you to think that.”
“You blame yourself? Why?”
“Same reasons you blame yourself.” Leo sighed, realizing a new side of this that he never had given thought to. “I’m still sorry. Sorry about everything that you had to go through.”
“Please…don’t be. I don’t want you to.” Piper thought for a moment, and then smiled a little. “When I was really depressed, Sarah told me to try and think of the positive stuff, and Betty encouraged me to do that too. So, I think that you gave me Melinda. You gave me a gift that meant more to me than anything in the whole world, and that I love more than anything. I mean, think about it. She’s here, walking around, breathing, living, because of our love.” Leo appreciated every word that she spoke; he adjusted himself so that he could look directly into her eyes. Words that he couldn’t find to express his emotions he didn’t need to voice she understood. She looked into his hazel eyes as if they were portals to his thoughts, and they told her everything that he wished that he could say but wasn’t able to. They kissed lovingly, before falling asleep in each other’s arms.
Kegar slowly walked into the Source’s chamber, nervously awaiting his fate of a slow, painful death that he would receive after his master found out of his failure. He saw the Source drumming his fingers on his throne’s armrest in impatience, and as Kegar stepped into the room, the Source’s hooded head jerked in his direction. “They failed! Give me a reason why I shouldn’t tear your head off!” Kegar swallowed heavily, knowing that he was talking literally. “If-if you’ll allow me to defend myself…” The Source waved his hand lazily and impatiently in his direction, letting the demon carry on. “There was no way that I would have been able to predict their strength,” Kegar said quickly. “Especially the whitelighter half-breed. She had immense power, power that I’ve only seen with you, my lord,” he continued, and he saw the Source shift uncomfortably in his chair. “And there is no doubts about the Halliwell’s powers. They are undeniably strong.”
“Describe.”
“For-for example, the middle sister, I saw that she had the power of-of molecular combustion or something like that, Your Dishonor,” he added with a small nervous chuckle. He almost felt that the Source rolled his eyes, and Kegar cleared his throat in nervousness. “Anyway, she was killing by the dozens, it seemed.”
“Were any injured at all?”
“S’matter of fact, yes. The half-breed was stricken with a darklighter’s dart, but unfortunately was healed. No other serious injuries, Your, uh, Lowness,” Kegar said with a small chuckle to himself. The Source clenched his fist, as if holding himself back from disintegrating this annoying little pest that Kegar was to him. Kegar cringed, hoping that those weren’t going to be his last words. “Leave me be,” the Source said, dismissing him with a wave of his hand, and Kegar went flying into a heap outside of the chamber. He stood up and dusted himself off. “Well, that was close,” he said, and walked away, humming a tune to himself happily that he still had his head.
Kegar's a favorite character of mine, I just love him. charmedone89 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 532 (3/28/04 9:14 pm) Reply Re: UC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really love this story! I also love the one with Piper in high school and how you incorporated leo into it. You are just really talented! You put a good twist on thing
And whoever said this would make a good spinoff was right. If they had ended with Piper and Leo getting seperated (though thank god they didn't because that would have sucked!) this would have been a good spin off. Keep writing!!!! It will pay off in the end!
Esmeralda Posts: 174 (3/28/04 10:19 pm) Reply Re: UC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This just continues to get better and better and better and better!! And, no, I won't think you a horrible person if you don't have Leo & Piper make a new baby--I just thought the Elders would get upset if they *started* making one!
I also like Keger, so I hope he gets to stick around. He's to the Source what Lefou was to Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, which adds a lot of fun to the story.
As for my idea of this being a spinoff; yep, you're right, this *is* an AU, since Leo & Piper didn't have the Elders' permission, the way they do in the TV Charmed universe (thanks to saving their a$$es), but I still think UC would be the Made-for-TV movie that connects Charmed with Charmed-The New Destiny. Hope we get to see a lot more stories in that vein!!
MORE, MORE!!! SOON, SOON!!!
PS Thanks for the condolences regarding Mom. She was truly a very special person, who would become a whitelighter if such a thing was possible.

Melinda orbed to the apartment in the morning, and changed for school. She didn’t see her mom or her dad anywhere, so she assumed that they were still sleeping. She got herself a glass of orange juice when she was greeted with a swarm of bright white lights, which she knew immediately as Sarah. “Morning,” Sarah said to her as she joined Melinda at the table. “Hey.” Sarah looked at her charge’s, or rather, half charge’s face to see a rather content, but at the same time, exhausted expression filled it. “I’m proud of you, Mel,” the whitelighter said, taking Melinda by surprise. “For what?”
“For being so understanding and patient.”
“I know that this is important for Mom, but at the same time…” “At the same time, you’re lost,” Sarah finished, and Melinda nodded. “Yeah. I don’t know how to act, what to say…” “It’s alright to feel that. You know, he’s feeling the same way,” she said, and Melinda knew that she was talking about Leo. She nodded, not knowing what to respond with. “Your mom is, also. This is not an easy thing to deal with, but I’m proud of you for being so patient about it,” Sarah said with a compassionate smile. “Thanks, Sarah.”
“Hey, no problem. You know, you gotta be my favorite charge, but you haven’t even been assigned to me. It’s ironic that way.” Melinda grinned. “So, how was it over at your aunt’s house?” Melinda wasn’t surprised her whitelighter knew that she was staying over there, and while she looked at her, she remembered something that had bothered her. “It was fine, but they told me something that got on my nerves.”
“What about?”
“Their whitelighter. He doesn’t care about them at all, and he left Chris, Aunt Phoebe’s son, with demonic side effects.” Sarah sighed. “I wish I could tell you that all whitelighters were these perfect beings, but unfortunately, we aren’t. There are some that…I don’t know… don’t love their charges.”
“How the heck did they ever become whitelighters?”
“Hmm…no idea. I guess the Elders liked them,” Sarah said with a grin. “Speaking of, I gotta go.”
“Alright.” Melinda watched as her whitelighter orb away, her thoughts turned back to her parents. Her parents. That was so confusing for her to think about. Never in her life before this think this way, as in they are together, so this was new to her. She liked it though. She walked slowly over to her mom’s bedroom door and knocked softly, loud enough that if she was awake her mom would hear, but so she wouldn’t wake her up if she was asleep. On the other side of the door, Leo lay awake, zoned out in thought, staring at the ceiling, and Piper was on the verge of consciousness. A soft knock brought them to, and Leo kissed her head softly before orbing out, grabbing his clothes in mid orb. Piper couldn’t help but smile, this was everything that she ever wanted. Her thoughts then went to the person at the door, which she was sure was her daughter. “Be right out,” she said, before getting dressed. Melinda turned around and walked into the living room, and not long after, her father also came in to join her coming out from the bathroom while rolling up the sleeves on his flannel shirt. “You sleep alright at your aunt’s?” he asked, sitting on the arm of the couch. Melinda smiled at his consideration of how she slept, and nodded. “Yeah.”
“I’m glad.” A nervous silence bound the room for a few moments, before Piper came out of her room with a contagious smile. “Morning,” she said, putting on her sweater and grabbing a cup of coffee. “Mornin’,” Leo and Melinda said at the same time, which made them smile to each other. “So, what are you doing to do today, Mom?”
“I’m thinking about staying home today, maybe for the rest of the week,” Piper responded to her daughter and looked to Leo, to see if he would let her stay home from her work for him. He was smiling, and she took that as a yes. “Can I stay home?” Melinda asked innocently. “Hmm…let me think…no! Nice try though,” Piper said with a chuckle at her daughter’s attempt to get out of school. Melinda sighed, and looked at the clock on the wall. “In that case, I need to get going,” she said, picking up her backpack. “Mind if I come with?” Leo asked, and Melinda looked at him surprised. “Really?”
“Yeah. What do you say?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Okay,” Leo said, and smiled at Piper before following Melinda out of the door as they both said bye. They started walking down the street when Leo noted, “Small town, huh?”
“Yeah, so don’t do anything really stupid. Word spreads fast around here.” “I’ll keep that in mind,” Leo said with a laugh. Melinda glanced at her dad and smiled. A couple of minutes of walking were accompanied by an uncomfortable silence. Both wanted to say something, but neither of them knew what to say. Melinda stopped in her usual place, and Leo asked curiously, “Why’d we stop?”
“I usually meet my friend here, and we walk to school together. I hope you don’t mind,” she asked, hoping that he didn’t. “Oh, not at all. It’d be nice to meet one of your friends.” Melinda smiled at his wanting to know her friends. It meant that he wanted to know about her. She wasn’t necessarily surprised, but she was glad. The content feeling came back, and she smiled to him, which he returned. A couple moments later, Mike walked out of his house and waved at them, knowing whom the second person was. When he reached them, he nodded courteously to Leo. “You must be Melinda’s dad,” he said, holding out his hand to him, which Leo shook. “I’m Mike.”
“It’s nice to meet you.”
“So…How was your weekend?” Mike asked Melinda, before she had the chance to ask him. “It was good. I enjoyed it.”
“I’m glad. It was boring here without you, though. Don’t leave again!” Mike joked, and Melinda gave a small laugh and glanced up at her dad, who was smiling, too. “No problem. I’d hate for you to be bored.”
“Yeah, that would be a shame.” Melinda constantly glanced up at her dad, and he was silently listening to them, all the while having a small, soft smile on his face. Mike was a bright kid, and noticed that neither of them really knew what to say to each other, as Melinda told him before she left for California that they had never met before. So, he would ask a question to Leo or joke to lighten the mood, and it worked. He avoided questions about his past, not knowing or wanting there to be any uncomfortable answers. “So…Mr. Wyatt, is that right?” he asked, looking at Melinda to see if he was right. She nodded, and Leo smiled at him. “You can call me Leo.”
“Alright, Leo. You like baseball? Football?”
“I like baseball, yeah.”
“Who’s your favorite player?”
“Joe Di Maggio, hands down,” Leo said with a grin. “Really? That’s cool. I don’t know of many people who would refer to him as their favorite player. Usually, people will say a modern player, but I think that that’s really awesome.”
“Thanks,” Leo said, and Mike gave a look to Melinda that clearly told her ‘I didn’t know what to say!’ She gave Mike a thankful smile before they reached the front of their school. Unfortunately for them, Jenna, Hanna, and Jamie took the opportunity to come up to them. “Oh, look, it’s Larry, Moe, and Curly,” Mike mumbled under his breath, and Melinda sniggered. “Hi, Melinda! Hi Mike!” Hannah said jovially, while looking Leo up and down. Melinda raised her eyebrow and Mike shrugged. Leo looked down at her and mouthed, ‘Friends of yours?’ Melinda shook her head as little as possible, not wanting them to notice, and Jenna gave her one of her usual dirty looks before turning to Leo.

“Well, can’t say I’ve seen you around here before. You new?” Melinda and Mike glanced at each other again, holding back a laugh at this girl’s…stupidity, for lack of a better word, before watching Leo’s reaction. “What?! He doesn’t go here.” “Well maybe he ought to,” Jenna mumbled, barely audible, and Melinda couldn’t help but roll her eyes. A warning bell went off in the background, and they walked off, Hannah and Jenna waving their slutty good-byes to Leo, while Jamie just glanced at them. “Sorry about them. They have this habit of doing stuff like this,” Melinda said to her dad. “It’s alright. Entertaining, actually. Do you think that I look like a high-schooler?” he asked with an amused smile. “Not really,” Melinda responded with a laugh. “Considering your age, however…” Leo smiled. “Oh, why thank you.” Mike glanced at Melinda, and she looked at her watch. “We, uh, we better get going.”
“Alright. I’ll see you this afternoon,” her dad said, and pulled her into a small hug. “Bye.”
“Bye.” They turned and started walking towards the school, while Leo started walking down the street a little to find a place to orb out. “He seems like a really nice guy.”
“Yeah, he does. It’s really weird, having him around. I never would have imagined this, having him here, being so strange.”
“What do you mean exactly?”
“Well, I’d imagine him coming here and finding us, and I’d imagine so much happiness, that’s all. I never really thought about it in a realistic way. It was all just a fantasy for me,” Melinda said, looking at him to see if he understood, which he could. “Well, maybe you should think about the present, instead of the past. I mean, instead of thinking what you felt then, think about what you feel now. Hey, I’m no expert, but that’s what I think. Heck, I just learned about this on Friday. I definitely aren’t an expert.”
“You don’t need to be an expert. You’re right. Thanks,” Melinda said to her friend. “Hey, no problem.”
“You know, you aren’t as dumb as you look,” Melinda joked. “You aren’t the first to notice that, don’t worry,” he responded with a grin. As they were about to enter the school building, they were stopped by three of the girls that they didn’t want to see. “You think this dimwit is smart? Wow, that’s the funniest thing that I’ve heard all day,” Hannah said with a grin. “The day is young. For all you know, some dimwit might tell you that you are really ugly or something,” Mike responded. “If he’s a dimwit, what would he know?” Mike looked like he was holding back from beating the crap out of her, but Melinda spoke up. “What do you want?”
“I was curious where you got that guy from,” Jenna said. “Okay, first of all, if you think that he’s my boyfriend, you might want to rethink who you’re aiming that dimwit insult at.”
“Well, that makes me feel better. The thought of you with a boyfriend was rather scary,” Jenna said with a mock sigh. “So…is he married?”
“What?” Mike said laughing. “You gotta be kidding me.”
“No, I really want to know. He’s hot!”
“You realize that you’re talking about my dad, right?” Melinda asked them, already knowing the answer. Surprised and disgusted looks appeared over Jenna and Hanna’s faces, but Melinda couldn’t help but notice how unaffected Jamie’s expression was. It looked as if she was trying to figure her out, and it sort of unnerved Melinda. “Ugh! Gross.”
“And no, he’s not married, incase you wanted to know,” Melinda said with a small sly grin. “Eww, like I would care anymore.”
“Whatever,” Hannah said, and they walked away. “Hmm… ‘whatever’… If you think about it, that word makes no sense. I mean, what does whatever mean anyway?” Melinda asked, smiling, watching the three of them walk to their class as they walked to theirs. “I dunno, I never thought about it. Good question.”

He walked up behind her, put his hands around her waist, and she gasped in surprise. “Sorry,” Leo apologized, holding her close to him. “It’s alright,” Piper said over her shoulder. “She’s wonderful, Piper,” Leo said softly to her. “Melinda? Yeah, she is. I always hoped that you’d come back so you’d see her, and here you are. Even if it is for a limited amount of time,” she said sadly. “The Elders don’t know about her. I can’t help but wonder if they did, what would happen? Would they let me stay or would they punish us more?”
“I don’t know. I’ve thought about it too. I wish I knew. I wish that this could all be better.”
“So do I.” Leo wanted a change in subject; this one was rather depressing. “So…What kind of pancakes are those?”
“Plain. Super Chef has overcome Super Mom over the years,” Piper said with a smile as she handed him a plate. “Hey, I’m not complaining,” Leo said with a grin and kissed her softly before enjoying his meal with her. Each other’s company was the most satisfying of anything during the breakfast, while small talk occupied their time, discussing the past as well as the present and future.
Melinda sat in her fourth hour science class, doodling in her notebook while the teacher droned on. Usually, she paid attention, but some how, Ms. Goss went from element symbols to going off topic and talking about pollution in soil to her summer in Alaska, and was now standing in the front of the class showing pictures. “…and this is the fish hatchery that I worked at…and um, there’s a fish right there…” Melinda absentmindedly scribbled a triquetra on her paper and looked around the room. She had most of the other kids in her other classes, her school wasn’t very big. Most of them were either zoned out, doodling like Melinda was, sleeping, or whispering to each other. Mike, who was sitting next to her, was keeping an ‘um’ tally. “What’s she up to?” Melinda asked her friend. “Uh…121 ‘ums’ in…” he looked up at the clock. “…a half an hour. I think that’s a new record.”
“I think that you’re right,” Melinda said with a laugh. She sensed something, and quickly froze the room, except for Mike. “123…what the heck?” Mike exclaimed, looking around the room at the frozen people. Then he noticed the spit ball a foot from hitting him. “Woah,” he said, standing up. “Shame if that hit you. It’d be funny, though.”
“To you, maybe!” Mike said to Melinda as he stared at the wad of paper suspended in midair. Movement then caught their eyes. “What the hell is going on here?!” a voice said from the corner. Melinda turned to see Jamie standing up wide-eyed. “Holy crap. Okay, good or bad?” Melinda asked, hand ready at her side. “I’m not evil, if that’s what you’re asking!” Jamie said, still getting over the shock. “What on earth are you two?”
“He’s mortal. I’m a witch,” Melinda said, not knowing what to think. “I never knew that there were other witches around here.”
“Uh, yeah. We aren’t very active, but we’re here. My mom and me,” said Jamie. “I guess that makes sense. With the weird sounds and stuff coming from your apartment that Jenna says that she hears, and with the whitelighter this morning.”
“What are you talking about?” “I saw your whitelighter orb away this morning. The whole dad scam, it was cute. But why lie?”
“Again, what are you talking about?” Melinda asked, starting to get mad. “Having your whitelighter pose as your dad. After we bugged you about not having one. I almost saw a resemblance.”
“That was her dad, you piece of regurgitated Spam,” Mike said, getting mad at her haughty attitude and her assumptions. “Wow, nice insult. You know, as a normal person, you would know nothing about whitelighters. We don’t expect you to.”
“Quit being so cocky,” Mike said back. “Don’t tell me wh-” She was interrupted by an orange glow coming from Melinda’s outstretched hand, and her eyes narrowed. “How’d you do that? Whitelighters can’t have kids, I mean, they can’t even flirt with their charges for crying out loud! Sure, there was that story about them, but that was just a story.”
“What are you talking about?”
“My mom used to tell me this story when I was younger about this witch, a really powerful witch and her whitelighter. They fell in love, but were not allowed to be together. I never liked that story because it had a sad ending,” Jamie said with a shrug. Melinda spun around and looked at her friend. “That’s about my parents,” she said quietly. “Cute again. But I doubt that,” Jamie said, not convinced. “Do you doubt that the witch you were talking about was a Charmed One? Named Piper Halliwell? And her whitelighter was Leo Wyatt? Do you doubt that that happened 15 years ago, almost to this day?” “A Charmed One? How do you know? Scratch that, stupid question. Wow, and she has been living here the whole time? That’s so cool.”
“To you, maybe.” “And that was really your dad, huh? I thought that they were split up!”
“They were.”
“Then why-?”
“Let me guess. You want to know why he’s here, if that story of yours said that they couldn’t see each other, right?”
“I guess. And how did you come about?” Melinda sighed in frustration, not wanting to share her life story with this girl who was really ticking her off. “Well, to put it short, the Elders gave a little leeway, and my mom never intended to have her whitelighter’s kid. You happy?” “Uh, yeah. Sorry.”
“It’s-it’s alright. I shouldn’t have gotten mad. You know, I would think that a witch would have some compassion and understanding for others who are different from you, but I guess not,” Melinda said, and sat down, along with Mike and Jamie, right before the freeze wore off. For the rest of class, they were unusually quiet, giving thought to what happened and what each of them discovered.

I'm only confused about one thing--if Mike's truly mortal, why didn't he freeze and how *does* he know about whitelighters? I re-read the parts where he and Melinda were together and never saw it mentioned, unless I missed it.
Waiting with bated breath for the next section!!!

Melinda chose NOT to freeze him because of the spit ball. Remember a while back when Melinda was getting her stuff together to go to San Francisco? She told him the deep dark secret? “Okay, don’t turn this around on me, but I’m a witch, a good witch. Well, half witch. My dad is an angel type thing for witches, and that is how my parents met.”
“Why don’t you know your dad? Why doesn’t he live here with you?”
“Because witches and whitelighters aren’t supposed to fall in love,” Melinda said, repeating the story she had heard hundreds of times. “My parents did, and my dad’s bosses split them up as a punishment.”
See? They talked! hehe.

That's cool that Melinda can decide who to freeze and who not to--when Piper freezes, mortals all freeze. That's what threw me.

Charming PL CharmedFan12 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 383 (4/2/04 12:07 am) Reply Re: UC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There have been times when Piper selectively freezes everyone except for Leo and stuff in the show. He's not mortal, but he has always froze, ever since season 1. I can't remember other times where she froze everyone else but one or two MORTALs, but I'm sure she has, like with Darryl or something.
And yes, lol, Jamie is one of the three stooges that would pick on Mel and Mike. Maybe this'll give her a kick in the head?
Lil' update heading your way, and when I say lil, I mean it. hehe.
“I want to show you something,” Piper said, taking Leo’s hand and leading him from off the couch and into her bedroom, where she went to find something in the closet. “Found it,” she mumbled, and pulled out an old, yellowing cardboard box. She put it on the bed where Leo sat, looking on with curiosity, while she searched through the box and found what she was looking for. “Here,” she said, and handed him an envelope that was rather thick. Leo opened it carefully, and was surprised to find a letter. “I wrote it years ago, but I couldn’t ever send it to you.” His eyes skimmed over the words, taking in each one with understanding and compassion. Occasionally, he’d mumble a part to himself. “‘I can’t believe that this is happening… At first I thought it was a dream, when soon I’d see you and you’d be able to tell me everything was all right. Then I realized that I was dreaming about a dream that was impossible. Everything seems so surreal. Leo, I don’t know how to do this… Be a mother, I mean. How am I supposed to raise this child by myself?’ ‘The thought about never seeing you again scares me far beyond what I have ever felt in my life, except the fact that I have this life growing inside me that I will need to take care of for the rest of my life. I can only hope that I can be a good mom to this little one. It’ll be hard without you, so hard, and living with the fact that you are still here…somewhere…living makes it that much more difficult. I’m going to try to push through it, though, for you…’” Leo looked up at Piper, who was standing, watching him read, stood up, and walked over to her. He pulled her into his arms and held her tight, never wanting to let her go, ever again. “I love you so much.”
“Really?” Piper asked with a small smile. “I think so,” he joked, and kissed her lips softly and lovingly. “I love you too.” They both lost track of the time, standing there, appreciating the gift that they had received. The gift of each other.

Alrighty, about the story. I wrote a few parts that explore Piper's past a little, and give us all a better look at things.
Leo is reading the passages from the letters, and then we flashback to the event. Please enjoy.
“‘Leo, I’m really scared. Scared of myself. I can’t control this power, and I feel helpless. I blew up something again today, even though I was trying to control my powers. My VCR is in pieces on the floor, and I think that my confidence in crumpled with it. Sarah said that I soon would be able to control this so-called ‘gift’, but it’s been almost two weeks and I’m still too scared to leave the apartment. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of me. I almost laughed when she called it a gift, too. It’s not a gift, it’s a curse. Your bosses are continually punishing me and I don’t deserve all of this! I can’t even imagine what else they have put you through…’”
“Sarah! Help me!” Piper called out desperately, standing in the corner of the room. Her whitelighter orbed in the room with a concerned look on her face, but the concern turned to compassion when she saw her charge. “You okay?” she asked, and Piper shook her head slowly. “What happened?”
“I blew up something… How am I supposed to stop this?” “You’re aren’t supposed to stop it…this is meant to be. You are meant to have this gift.”
“Gift? How can you call this a gift?” Sarah stood thinking for a moment, before responding. “It may not seem like a gift right now, but there is a reason for this. Once you get control of your power it’ll be a lot safer around here. Don’t you want your baby to be safe?”
“Of course I do! I wouldn’t want anything to happen to her…but I’m scared,” Piper said quietly. “I know, everything will be alright, I promise.” Sarah pulled her vulnerable charge into a gentle hug, while she cried. Sarah was understanding; she understood that Piper was under enormous amounts of emotional stress, not to mention hormones that drove them both crazy at times. There were times when Piper would be happy, then just suddenly change to weeping in a matter of seconds. Sarah really cared for Piper, and hoped that she would get a hold of things, so that she could live life properly instead of locked up in a little apartment for weeks. Sometimes she couldn’t help but think about how such a strong and powerful witch had become so weak and unstable. What’s worse is that beings of good did this.

I hope that the fact that I'm quite a bit older than what I think a lot of the rest of the writers/readers are doesn't change the way you feel about my "reviews". I'm just joking, I have to tell you, everytime I come here I am flabbergasted with the number of posts I have recieved with this story. I have seen longer, however, on message boards, and here is the link for one that I personally loved: Highschool Hell and Leo @ the Halliwell Haven. Also, at the Prophecy (another message board), where I used to post this story (I hate the place now, they messed up the fan fiction area and we have to post links from fanfiction.net because of bandwidth problems. I hate that! I don't want to do that!) they would shut down threads once they hit 200 posts, and then you'd start a new one, and some stories got four threads or rarely, but sometimes more. I actually had four threads before they messed up the site. I must tell you, in total honesty, I get so much more of a thrill to come here and see new reviews with the extremely nice compliments and discussion about different things than I did at the Prophecy, where all but half of the reviews would say is continue soon.
Esmeralda, of course I don't feel any different about your reviews! Or about you! I'm just...surprised, surprised that someone so mature is reading my, a high schooler's, story. Yes, everyone, I'm a freshman in high school, in case you are curious. i'll be fifteen in...19 days? But I look around at my peers and I just don't belong with them. I'd rather talk to adults, and I'd rather listen to the Eagles than to 50 Cent or Smashing Pumpkins or whatever. I dunno. I'm different, I guess. Anyway, I hope you have a good birthday in July and bring a fire extinguisher to your birthday party in case the cake is on fire! lol, I'm joking, totally joking.

I think this was a decent flashback, and it shows just a lil bit how Piper had always cared for her daughter. Enjoy.
“Today was rough at work. They had me working the tables today because they hired another cook, so they have been switching us around. Anyway, in the morning, I accidentally spilled hot coffee all over this man today, and I was so embarrassed. The man assured me that it was alright, but I felt so bad. I kept on apologizing to him, but he said that he was alright and laughed about it. Later, there were these two guys that came in, truckers, I think that they were, and they were flirting with me. They had alcohol on their breath, and were telling me that they had a cot in the back of their truck or something, and insisted that I come by to see the truck and have a drink. Let’s just say that they wouldn’t take no for an answer…’”
“Hey, pretty lady. What’s a cute girl like you doing in a place like this?” one of the men that Piper was serving said to her. She could smell the whiskey on his breath. “Working,” Piper said shortly. “Looks like we got a feisty one here, Earl,” the other man said with a lopsided grin on his face. “What do ya say you come see our truck and have a drink with us?” the man named Earl said to her. “We have a nice cot sittin’ right behind the seats that I think that you’ll love,” he said with a wink. “No, I don’t think so,” Piper said and started walking away. “Hey, don’t go,” the other guy said. Piper turned around impatiently. “Are you going to order something else?”
“Yeah, how much would you cost?” They both started chuckling, and Piper rolled her eyes. “Excuse me,” Piper spat, and walked away again, but not before an arm shot out and grabbed her arm. It was Earl’s buddy. “Naw, I don’t think I will…” he said, standing up. He grabbed her huskily and pulled her into a rough kiss. Piper pulled away from him and slapped him. Hard. He stood there in disbelief, holding his cheek, before a look of fury spread over his face. “You filthy piece of trailer trash!” he yelled before backhanding her across the side of the face. She stumbled back, and someone caught her before she fell. She looked up and saw that it was the manager. “If I were you boys I’d get out and don’t come back,” he said calmly. “Aww, come on, we were just havin’ a bit o’ fun. She was just about to come back to our truck for a little more,” Earl said with a drunken grin. The manager looked down at her, not believing them, and she shook her head to show that it wasn’t true. “I think you better leave before I have to call the cops on you,” he said, holding a similar tone of voice, yet Piper could sense some anger. “Alright, don’t get your whitey-tighties all twisted up yo’ butt now,” Earl said cautiously as they walked out. “Are you alright?” the manager, Phil, asked. “Yeah, I think so,” Piper responded quietly while rubbing her cheek. “Take five, okay?” Phil said, as he turned and walked back to the register where he’d been working before. She walked over to a deserted booth in the corner and closed her eyes as she sat down. Even with her eyes closed, she could feel others looking at her. She put her hand on her stomach, which was barely visible in her third month. She rubbed it gently with her hand, and spoke to the unborn child inside her softly. “Were you scared? I was. I was scared that he would hurt you. I’m glad he didn’t.” She sighed, and drifted off in to unconscious thoughts.
Hugs to everybody!!!

Okay I have one question about a previous post: the one with where Melinda and Mike learn that Jamie is a witch...
“It’s-it’s alright. I shouldn’t have gotten mad. You know, I would think that a witch would have some compassion and understanding for others who are different from you, but I guess not,” Melinda said, and sat down, along with Mike and Jamie, right before the freeze wore off. My question is what happened/ what did the class discovered if they were frozen? Was this kind of explained and I missed it (i prolly did pull a blonde move) or were you just leaving us hanging for now and it's going to be explained later? or what?
Please help if it hasn't bn said yet then wait don't spoil it and keep up the great work and can't wait for an update! Happy early birthday and update *very* *very* soon!!!
P.S. You're right about my cake--if I had 51 candles!! (I thought you meant watch out for the fire, coz my birthday's near 4th of July!) But my mom always bought those candles shaped like numbers and she'd use those as the decade and then regular birthday candles for the digits. So like my last cake just had a large candle shaped like a 5 for 50 and this July's will have that 5 plus one little candle. So you never have to blow out more than 10. Works pretty cool!

Once they're done with the Fan Fic contest (the one that *is* pinned) I'm planning on having a Review thread where people can give their reviews in a more public way, including short summaries without giving away the ending. I hope that will help newbies find Fan Fic will fit the type of stories they want to read.
I was thinking about your handle. If I had to change mine again (I won't, but if I had to), I think I'd be Charmed Fan Fic Addict, because I most definitely am!!!

I just love coming here everyday and knowing that someone is going to just brighten up my day by writing the things that you do!
Thank you again for the early birthday wishes! 15 doesn't seem like a big number, but I feel like I should be 50! People say life is too short, but I don't think so. I think that it's got a lot of time for all sorts of things, and we should take every opportunity we can to enjoy ourselves so we can remember them later on. Also, don't get unhappy cuz then life seems even longer and and you can't enjoy things.
I have to say Esmeralda, your mom was a very smart lady. I think I might have said that before, so if I did, I'll say it again. Shame if the cake DID catch on fire...ruin a perfectly good cake...
And to charmed addict, I absolutely loved your review because, as I have already said, of the enthusiasm. It keeps me from ever getting unhappy! I appreciate that you think that this is one of the best stories that you have read! I hope that you read many many more stories that are better than this!
Anyway, you are probably getting bored with my humdrum (hehe, I wanted to say that) Author's Notes. So....(dun dun dun)...here's your update!! Please, please enjoy!
Also, I want to say that I personally like this next section, and when writing this it gave me a new view on demons. You'll see what I mean.
“‘One thing that I never expected to see was a demon here, looking for me. But that’s what I saw today, and I still can’t help but be a little surprised. He was an interesting character…’”
“Lock up, will you?” Phil asked her as Piper was wiping down the bar in the diner. “Sure,” she responded. As he walked out, another man walked in, wearing a long overcoat, and he looked a bit scruffy, yet dangerous. It was only the two of them in the deserted diner. “Can’t say that you were easy to find…” he said leaning casually against the wall. “Took me a long time to figure out where the hell you were. Nice hiding spot, I suppose.”
“I didn’t pick it,” she said casually, knowing that this was a demon and he wasn’t in ‘killing mode’. “So, what are you doing here? Going to kill me?” she asked as if she were truly curious. “I was thinking about it, but smells like you would have a good burger here.”
“We just closed up,” she stated. “That’s too bad. You know, I can’t help but wonder what a Charmed One like yourself would be doing so far away from home.”
“The Charmed Ones were split up,” she informed him, turning her gaze to him rather than the table. “And this is punishment for me.” She couldn’t help a look of sadness come across her face as she remembered what she lost, even though she tried holding back. “Aww, I’m sorry to hear that,” he said, and if he weren’t this demon sitting here, she’d probably have believed him. “Well, it looks like you have got a good beer belly going on there,” he said, gesturing at her stomach. She was in her fourth month, and her pregnancy was showing enough to stretch her shirt a little bit. “Yeah, that’s right,” she said sarcastically, and started wiping down the rest of the bar, keeping her attention on him even though her eyes weren’t. “Sarcasm? I take it that you are just getting fat then,” he said, and walked casually over to her. She jumped back, and had her hands ready. “Woah, it’s alright there, I’m not going to hurt you. At least not yet.” He looked to be in no hurry, and Piper was skeptical, but trusted him just a little bit. Her hands were ready at her side. He reached out and put his hand gently on her rounded stomach. A small smile came on his face as he pulled his hand back. “You know, I think that a child’s life is the most precious thing.” Piper was taken by surprise. “Did I just hear that out of a demon’s mouth?”
“Oh, that’s an unfair accusation. Just because I am a demon does not mean that I don’t appreciate a child’s life. I for one think that abortion is just horrible. I suppose being a demon puts on a perspective of life and death that ordinary people just don’t see.”
“Hmm, that was deep,” Piper said with a small smile. “I have my moments.” For a moment, there was silence, but the demon spoke up again. “Uh, I still have to kill you. If I don’t, I’m going to get in trouble with The Big Man,” he said and pointed down. “Of course,” Piper said with a small grin. “But I thought that you said that you have appreciation for a child’s life.”
“Oh, I do. I still have to kill you though. Duty,” he said as he shrugged. “Could we take this outside? I just cleaned up.”
“Sure,” he said and they stepped out the door. Piper looked around and the street was all but abandoned, which it usually was this time of night. “So…you get knocked up somewhere?”
“Excuse me?” Piper said, spinning around to look at him. “Well, I don’t see a ring on your finger, so I was just assuming…” “Don’t assume,” Piper said angrily. “Okay, sorry,” he said, and held his hands up in defense. He pulled an athame from his belt and stood there patiently. “So how about instead of my assuming any further, you tell me how you got here and how you ended up pregnant.”
“Is it any of your business?” Piper asked, a smile starting to form on her face from this demon’s constant questions. “Can’t a guy be curious?”
“Are you a guy? I mean, can demons be considered guys?”
“Sure. We’re people too, just like you are. Just fighting for the other team,” he responded, waving the hand with the knife around as he talked. “So I take it that you aren’t going to answer my questions.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Alright. So, should I go first, or you?” the demon asked, gesturing to the athame in his hand. “Doesn’t matter.”
“Okay.” He swung with the knife; Piper avoided the swing and blew him up in one motion. She sighed. “Shame. He was a decent guy,” she said to no one, and closed up the diner for the night. She remembered how dangerous he looked, and remembered that looks can be deceiving. How true. She went home and retreated to her bedroom. She lay down on her bed and began to cry. She had been getting better at holding in her emotions, but there was an overload going on right now. Demons were going to start finding her, more and more, and being reminded of how she got in that mess…she couldn’t take it. She cried herself to sleep that night.

mkp3mom Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 12 (4/8/04 10:17 am) Reply Love it! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, since it has been a while since I put my 2 cents in, I guess I will go first. As usual you are doing a great job! You write very well. I did like the new perspective of demons you gave in this section. Pretty cool. Can't wait to read more charmed12! I also just read the part before about the 2 truckers, I liked the way you put that together, too. The way she talks to the baby after and that the manager was looking after her. It is good that she had others looking out for her through all of this. I tried to start reading other fan fics but I can't get into them like I have this one. Keep up the good work!..... charmed addict Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 171 (4/8/04 3:03 pm) Reply Re: EXCELLENT! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello again! This is what I have to say.
1) Emaralda, about the comment I made about you sounding young. I did mean that you fit in. You sound like someone who is 20!!! And you are welcome!!!
2) Yay! Someone agrees with me about the fan fic archive! I know there is one on this site, but I read them all and I think it would be a good idea to put some that the memebers of this site wrote.
3) Esmaralda, I think it's a good idea that you want to start a review thread.
4) What's a "handle"?
5) CharmedFan12, you liked my review? Thank you!! I meant every word!!! And ya, I'm always entusiastic!!!! And also, I REALLY doubt that ANY other story is as good as this one.
6) For my next review........ HOLY COW!!!! lol. Demons with feelings....... interesting. I really like that idea!!
Esmeralda Posts: 272 (4/8/04 4:36 pm) Reply Re: WOW!!!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm totally with Charmed Addict; this was absolutely totally fantastic! The demon reminded me a little bit of Cole in demon mode. I almost hated seeing Piper blow him up--I thought he might evolve into a friend! I would like to see more soon, even tho I won't be back online until Sunday (going to my Dad's place for Easter)
Now, here's some answers for you, Charmed Addict:
1) Emaralda, about the comment I made about you sounding young. I did mean that you fit in. You sound like someone who is 20!!! And you are welcome!!!
YAY, I'M SO GLAD TO KNOW I FIT IN!!!
2) Yay! Someone agrees with me about the fan fic archive! I know there is one on this site, but I read them all and I think it would be a good idea to put some that the memebers of this site wrote.
YEAH, THAT FAN FIC THREAD ISN'T REALLY AN ARCHIVE, SINCE IT'S MAINLY ABOUT CURRENT FAN FIC--I'D LIKE TO INCLUDE OLDER ONES, TOO.
3) Esmaralda, I think it's a good idea that you want to start a review thread.
ME, TOO! I WANT TO BE THE ROGER EBERT OF CHARMED FAN FIC--AND MOST OF THE ONES I READ WILL GET A THUMBS UP!! THIS ONE GETS 5 OF THEM!! IF IT'S NOT MY TYPE, I'LL LET OTHERS REVIEW IT!! NO THUMBS-DOWN REVIEWS ALLOWED!!
4) What's a "handle"?
WHOOPS, THERE I GO USING CRYPTIC WORDS AGAIN. A HANDLE IS THE NAME YOU USE, LIKE CHARMED ADDICT OR ESMERALDA. IT'S FROM WHEN CB (CITIZEN'S BAND) RADIO, WHEN EVERYONE HAD NICKNAMES, SO THE COPS WOULDN'T KNOW WHO THEY WERE, AND OTHERS WOULD ASK, "WHAT'S YOUR HANDLE." AT THAT POINT, I WAS STRING BEAN'S GAL, BUT I NO LONGER AM, SO I CHOSE ESMERALDA INSTEAD.
Hope that answers your questions! Have a Happy Easter, everyone, and those of us in America, enjoy ChrisCrossed on Sunday--I sure will!! charmed addict Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 173 (4/8/04 5:05 pm) Reply Re: WOW!!!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 those answers Esmaralda!!! About the only thing I would change throughout your entire story is that last fight you just posted. I could have seen it play out really well if you put their quick little battle in the form of a Wild West gunfight, only, instead of guns, they used their magic. Only the quicker of the two would survive. But other than that, it was excellent and deffenently the best Fic on the board Kowa CharmedFan12 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 402 (4/10/04 3:47 pm) Reply Re: WOW!!!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's interesting, Kowa. “‘Today was…complicated. I had that dream again, the vivid dream. The one of the last day I saw you. It had to have been a premonition, it was just too real…’”
Piper awoke with a start and felt a cold breeze chill her face. She reached up and felt the sweat on her brow. She tried to relax herself after her encounter with the memory that she most wanted to forget yet at the same time wanted to cherish as her last time with her soul mate. She took a deep breath; it soothed her enough to be able to think straighter. She realized how mentally, physically, and emotionally tired she was. The last few nights were the same; she would have these premonitions that racked her body to the point of utter exhaustion. They were always about the last times she saw Leo. The only thing that she could figure out was that her daughter was having these premonitions, and that their connection allowed her to see them too, whether she wanted to or not. Sarah gave the thought that with her daughter always in tune with her gave her premonitions of important and emotional times in her life. In her relaxed states, these visions were to be expected. Her emotions were numb right now from her emotional exhaustion, and honestly, she was thankful. She doubted she would have been able to withstand all of what she would feel if she weren’t in this tired state. She sighed, knowing that it would be impossible for her to get back to sleep, got up, and prepared for the rest of the day despite the early time.
“‘…Later on, something happened that I didn’t expect. Didn’t deserve.’”
Piper gave a fruitless attempt at trying to get rest on the couch, with her hand resting on her eight-month pregnant stomach in a way of habit. She heard someone knock at the door, but couldn’t figure out who it could be. Sarah always orbed. She took a few seconds to get to her feet, walked over and opened the door. There stood an older woman with a kind face holding a plate of cookies. Betty looked upon the woman who stood before her with sympathy. She appeared to have not slept in days, and had the dark circles under her eyes to prove it. Her eyes had pain and inner suffering that had scarred there. Something that she would always feel, and it just wouldn’t leave her. She wondered about this poor woman: what had happened to her? “Hi, my name’s Betty, I moved in next door, and I though I’d come by and meet you,” the woman said with a smile as she handed Piper the plate of cookies. “Thank you,” Piper said, and was surprised it came out so hoarse, she didn’t talk much to many people, but still. “Please, come in. I’m Piper, by the way.” They walked inside and went over to the couch. “This, uh, is a very nice place that you have here,” Betty said, looking around. Piper laughed. “No, it’s not. It’s just what I can afford,” she said. Piper felt rather uncomfortable talking to this woman, because she never really talked to anyone besides Sarah. “So, do you know if it’ll be a boy or a girl?” Betty asked, looking at Piper’s stomach. “Huh? Oh, um, I’m pretty sure it’ll be a girl,” Piper said, putting her hand on her stomach, remembering the daughter that she saw in the future. “Do you have any kids?” Piper asked lamely, unsure of what to say. “Yes, I do. Two of them, but they’re probably about your age, if I guess rightly. I’m a widow, my husband died about nine years ago.”
“Oh, I’m sorry…” Piper began, but Betty just smiled. “Don’t be!” she said with a chuckle. “So, tell me, what about the father?” she asked, kindly. “He, uh, died,” Piper said half truthfully, looking down at her hands. “A long time ago. We were going to get married, when he was taken from me.” Piper could see a look of sympathy cross her face, and Betty put her hand on hers. Piper didn’t want sympathy; that was the truth; there was nothing that she could do about it now. “Well, I understand. If you ever want to talk, remember that I’m right next door,” Betty said, picking up her jacket. “Thanks,” Piper said with a thankful smile. “You’re welcome here any time.” Betty gave a warm smile to her before walking out. Piper sighed, wondering why she had told this woman the truth, but not regretting it. She was thankful to have this amiable neighbor, she realized she didn’t deserve having such a kind person cross into her path.

I have been so busy! I've hardly have had time to relax, because we had these people in town (I think I may have mentioned it before, but anyways) so we've been running around everywhere and things have been hectic (in a good way, though). This morning they went home though, and now I have time to update! Yay!!!
So here you go, I really hope you enjoy this, and I'll update soon! Promise!!!
“‘Leo, I’m so sorry for not writing you in so long, but the miracle of life has delayed me. Yes, our baby was born two weeks ago, and her name is Melinda Patricia Halliwell. She weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, was 7 and ¾ inches long. Oh, Leo, she’s beautiful. I still can’t believe she’s really mine. Ours. She’s that little girl I saw in the future. I guess that maybe that vision of the future was just a parallelism to the real reality. You and I were separated, my sisters and I weren’t close then…uh, I don’t know. What I do know is that I have a daughter, one that I will undeniably love and cherish for all eternity. That I know.’ ‘When I was in the hospital, I had a dream. Actually, I don’t know what it was, but I know that I will never forget it.’”
After the contraction hit her, Piper regained her breath and laid back. It had been over 5 hours already, and she couldn’t wait ‘til this ‘thing’, as she lovingly had referred to it, was out of her. She didn’t mean it like that, but she was ready for the pain to end and to have her daughter in her arms. She closed her eyes, and after a few moments of the calming darkness, a light started coming towards her. She knew who it was. “Mom?” Patty smiled lightly to her. “Yeah, it’s me.” She walked up to her, and held out a glowing hand to her daughter, and Piper was surprised to hold it, and her eyes were filled with tears. It filled her with warmth. She looked into her mother’s eyes, which she desperately wanted to see for so long. “I can’t stay long, who knows what would happen if they find out that I came to you.” Piper looked away and blinked back tears of sadness and anger, as well as happiness to be able to see her mother again, before looking back. “It means so much to me that you did,” she said through the tears. Patty reached up and wiped the tears with her thumb. “I’m sorry for just crying like this…” “Don’t be. We all need to cry sometimes.” Patty put her hand on Piper’s stomach, and looked back to her eyes. “This child is special.”
“I know she is,” Piper said, swallowing back the urge to cry. “Just…just don’t forget that this child has a special destiny. Don’t forget that your destiny has yet to be unraveled. All this is, is an obstacle on your path. A detour. You will one day regain footing on the right path, and everything will be okay, I promise.”
“You really think so?”
“You know I do. Piper, don’t forget that I will always be watching over you and this little one, I will be the presence you need to know that you are never alone. I love you sweetie,” Patty said to her. A sparkling tear escaped from the corner of her eye. “I need to go. Don’t forget.”
“I won’t. I love you,” Piper called out to the dimming figure of the woman who gave her life, who gave Piper her destiny, who gave her hope. Patty blew her a kiss, before disappearing into the darkness. Another contraction hit her, and brought her out of her dream. “Her contractions are close.” Feeling the presence of her mother next to her was like a comforting hand on her shoulder, and gave her the strength to give life to the next generation of Halliwell women and witches. “Congratulations, Ms. Halliwell, it’s a girl,” the doctor said with a smile as he handed Piper her daughter. Piper cried in happiness, with a smile on her face that wasn’t seen since her last day with Leo and her sisters, when she was standing before Leo. Sarah and Betty found this expression with Piper foreign, and that was when it hit them how special this all really was. They stood on either side of her bed, and admired Piper and her daughter. “What are you going to name her?” Betty asked, smiling. “Melinda, Melinda Patricia,” Piper said through her tears. “Patricia for my mom.” She could almost sense her mother smile when she heard that, and Piper’s heart warmed. She looked down at the tiny baby in her arms and knew that despite the fact that things were rough, she would always be happy as long as she had this life to love. “That’s a beautiful name, Piper,” Sarah said, also smiling. “For a beautiful child,” Betty added. “She is…” Piper said, laughing through her tears. Everything seemed on the verge of perfect as she held this child in her arms, knowing that it was far from. Tears of happiness flowed down her face, but also of longing. Perfect for Piper would be only three other people, one of course being the father of the tiny baby she was delicately holding. “If only Leo were here…”
Aww, it's so sad. It's okay though, we know that they get to see each other in the future, don't we? Please review! I love to hear anything and everything that you say!!!

Yes, we know that Leo & Piper will get together--but that's not for another FIFTEEN YEARS!! And to think that Patty wouldn't have been at this Piper's wedding, because these @#$% Elders wouldn't have sent her down!! Patty has always been my favorite Charmed character, so I loved the way you brought her in for Piper & Melinda, and as always, you were right on with her character! And I love Melinda's middle name--since Prue is alive in this one, Piper wouldn't have added her name to Melinda's.
By the way, we (or at least, I do) definitely understand that we all have lives outside of Charmed, (how pitiful would we be if we didn't?) that sometimes get in the way of our being in the Forum, so no need to apologize for that! I want you to know I think that this next part is one of my favorite parts in the whole story. Please enjoy!
Leo started drifting off on the comfortable bed. He had been reading some of Piper’s letters of her day to day struggles and some rewards of life that he would never experience with her. A stream of bright blue lights right outside the door brought him out of his reverie and he nearly fell off the bed. “You alright?” Melinda asked him, dropping her backpack right by her door, which was next to her mom’s bedroom. “Uh, yeah. I’m just not used to seeing other people orb in mid daydream,” he responded with a laugh, and she smiled. “Uh, where’s Mom?” Melinda asked as she looked around. “She was called into work a while ago. Said something about a major plumbing problem.”
“I thought she was on vacation leave.”
“She did mention something about the carpet was in risk of needing replacement in a couple of the rooms,” he added with a small grin and a shrug. Melinda couldn’t help but snicker. “That bad?” she said rhetorically. “So…what were you thinking about that I scared you out of?” He grabbed a letter and held it for her to see. “The, uh, letters.”
“Uh oh. You didn’t get to the one where I put the giant hole in the wall, did you?”
“No! Where is it?” he laughed as he started looking for the paper she was referring to as a joke. “No! Don’t read it!” she said and dove on the bed for the letters. She laughed as she grabbed them from her dad, and he tried to snatch them back. “Give them back!” he exclaimed with a laugh. “Neva!” She dodged another swipe for the papers but couldn’t get out of the way when he stole them from her hands. She play-screamed as she lost her balance and fell off the edge of the mattress. He looked over the bed with a grin and saw Melinda in a fit of laughter. “Gee, and here I thought you’d have more coordination than that,” he said while shaking his head in mock disappointment. “Yeah, me too,” Melinda said, catching her breath. “So, do you give up?” Leo said while tauntingly waving the papers. “Yeah, I give up.” “I declare myself the victor,” he said with a smile as he sat back up straight and shuffled through the letters once more. “Okay then.” Melinda grabbed the pillow that fell off the bed with her and threw it at her dad, who was caught by surprise. “Cheater!” he said as she grabbed another pillow and hit him. He swung back, and the fight kept up, until Piper walked into the room and laughed. “What-what the hell?” she asked and they stopped and caught their breath. “She started it,” Leo said innocently, pointing at Melinda. “Did not.”
“Lair,” he laughed. “Yeah, he’s right. I lied.”
“Alright, give me my pillow,” Piper said sternly to Melinda. She handed the pillow to her mom, and was surprised when Piper swung it at her, knocking her off the bed again. “No fair,” Melinda said, annoyed, as her mom and dad laughed. She squinted slightly to the pillows at the head of the bed, and one came flying into her hands, and she threw it at her mom, but just as it left her hands, it exploded and feathers went everywhere. “No fair?” Piper said with her hand still out. “De-definitely not fair,” Melinda answered, spitting out down from the feathers. Leo started laughing, and Melinda and Piper soon joined in, swatting at the fluff floating in the room. This wasn’t how life for Melinda was planned, but she loved it; she loved her family together.
mkp3mom: Okay, a stab in the dark here...could it be 'P'? hehe

Emeralda: that's what I think! They need to be together! Hmm...but how? hehe. And thank you very much, I spend a lot of time on the relationships because they are so important. It is important that they say the right things, that they grow together in the best way I can make them, and that people enjoy it! If I can give everyone advice, just keep close to the ones you love, show them that you think about them, and try to spend time with them as much as possible (without spending so much that you get on their nerves! [Guilty of that over here! hehe]). You never know if one day they won't be there, as many of the wonderful people on this board know, such as Esmeralda.
charmedaddict: I laughed at your comment to Esmeralda! Thank you for that! lol! I want you to know that I come here to this board everyday (except yesterday, I had problems with viruses. Stupid things) and I can't believe how many reviews I get! I am astonished beyond comprehension! It's wonderful, and I can't thank all of you enough for it!
Leosldy: Thank you very very much for checking out my story! Another person added to my awesome UC family!!! I'm thrilled you liked my story that much!!! I definately think that review thread is a wonderful idea: Thanks Esmeralda!!!
Okie, on to the story!!! I need to warn you: I am really going to have to slow down with the updates, for I am running out of story! I only have a few pages left that you haven't read, and they're dwindling down faster than I can write! So, if it's not as quick as I usually update, don't hate me!
That night was enjoyable for every one of them. Piper had made a spectacular dinner for them to eat, one that Melinda hadn’t the opportunity to enjoy much, for her mom hadn’t done too much of her special cooking. After that, the three of them relaxed and enjoyed an old comedy and had fun just laughing and hearing each other laugh. The next morning, Leo offered to walk with Melinda again. The walk over was a lot less tense as the morning before, and even Mike noticed that. When they reached their destination, Leo asked her for directions to a certain store, and she smiled when he asked and answered him. He took off in that direction, and a half an hour later, Leo walked back into the apartment when Piper was once again cooking breakfast for them. “That took you awhile,” Piper said before they kissed. “I made a stop,” Leo told her, pulling away from her slightly. “Oh, really?”
“Yes,” he said, and pulled out a small box from his pocket. He handed to her, and she opened it, revealing a beautiful diamond ring. “Leo?” she said, looking up at him with disbelief. “I know that it’s not much…” “No, no. It’s perfect. How’d you buy this?”
“Well, I did get some money for all the undercover work I do,” he said with a small smile. “This…is beautiful Leo.” “I hoped you’d like it. I just wanted to say that no matter what happens, I want you to know that I love you more than life itself. And…if we figure out a way that we can stay together, I want you to marry me. I want us to be a family. If not…then you will always have this to remind you how much I love you, have loved you, and will love you.” She reached up and kissed him passionately without saying anything. He fell into it, and was surprised to feel something cold rush down his head. He pulled away, felt something slimy in his hair, and saw Piper smiling with a broken egg in her hand. “I’d love to marry you,” she said with a laugh as Leo tried wiping the egg out of his hair. Leo started laughing too and they kissed again. Leo took the opportunity to reach over to the counter and grab another egg from the carton, smashing it on her head. She laughed as she pulled away, wiping the slime off. Leo grinned at her, took the ring from the box in her hand and slid it on her finger. “No matter what happens, I will love you. And Melinda.” “I know you will,” Piper said as they hugged. “Um…Piper?”
“Hmm?”
“I get the first shower!” Leo said with a laugh as he orbed out. “Cheater!” she yelled to him, then admired the ring on her finger with a smile on her face. She couldn't believe how lucky she was at this moment. She didn’t know what to expect from the future, and the past was in the past. The present, however, was paradise for Piper.

Esmeralda Posts: 373 (4/18/04 6:23 pm) Reply Re: Wonderful! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree with the others! Wonderful was a perfect title, because that's exactly what it is!! The time you take in perfecting the relationships and the conversations definitely show through; it's why it's so right on and why you've gotten so many reviews--has any story ever gotten more than 250 posts??!! (and you probably have a ton of readers who haven't reviewed!) But please do us a favor. Don't stretch it out too much; you'll drive us nuts! Much as we hate to see this story end, we hope we'll talk you into doing the first episode for your new series: Charmed-The New Destiny! I want to see more stories about the next generation of Charmed battling evil! I want to find out more about Melinda's destiny. I want to find out if she ever gets a little brother named Wyatt and whether he'll be good or evil. I want to hear more about Melinda's cousins--I'd love to see them have their own stories, too! You've created such a wonderful AU; I beg you to continue to write more stories within it, and I'll bet others feel the same way!!
And, yes, it's violent, but Charmed is a violent show; it's part of its (pardon the pun!) charm! And CharmedFan12 does *such* a wonderful job writing fight scenes (best at it in the Forum of the stories I've read) that I truly want to see both generations of Charmed kick the @#$% Elders' a$$ for what they did to Leo & Piper (and Melinda, too), *especially* if they break them up again!! And if I have to wait for another story to read it--SO BE IT!!

CharmedFan12 Charmed Cafe Member Posts: 415 (4/23/04 9:45 am) Reply Re: Wonderful! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, this is a long one. I'm going to be gone this weekend, so I thought instead of torturing you for a long time, I'd update this morning (before school, mind you) . The first part of this is from the last update. It's to help understand the first sentence. Enjoy.
...She couldn't believe how lucky she was at this moment. She didn’t know what to expect from the future, and the past was in the past. The present, however, was paradise for Piper.
Paradise lost, however. Though always in the back of Piper’s mind, the time when Leo would be taken away again began to haunt her thoughts. The woman would have thought that she would have given up all of her tears by now after mourning her loss for years, she did break down once when she thought of life without her soul mate once again, and was unable to hold back some more stray tears. Later that afternoon, Piper sat on the couch, thinking, trying and failing not to think of the one thing that broke her heart to think about. Leo was sitting with her watching a movie on TV, and it didn’t take him long to notice that she was off somewhere else. “Piper?” The sound of her name brought Piper out of her reverie, and she turned to him with a fake smile on her face. “Yes?”
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, of course I am.”
“What’s the matter?” “Nothing’s the matter!”
“You read like an open book,” he told her, adding, “So what’s wrong?”
“It’s just…I don’t want you to go,” Piper whispered, looking at Leo with a terrible sadness in her eyes. “The last couple of days, it just keeps haunting me. I keep trying not to think about it, because it just hurts so much…but you’re never going to come back, and that’s something that’s hard to ignore.” Her face broke his heart, more than it already was, if possible. He’d been feeling the same way, but seeing how much more it hurt her, it was hard to take. “I like this. I like the way things are right now. I don’t want this to change,” Piper said to him, her voice cracking as she tried to not cry. “I know,” he told her, and he put his arms around her gently, trying to console her. She rested her head in his chest, and they sat there for a few moments, feeling content in each other. They looked up when Melinda came through the door with a smile as she dropped her bag. “Hey,” she said, jogging over. “Let me see it.”
“It?” Piper asked, looking at Leo. “You know about ‘it’?”
“I needed some sense of direction to find a place to buy it,” Leo told her, with a grin. “Oh,” she said, a smiling forming on her face as she either forgot about what they were talking about just a few seconds before, or she was avoiding thinking about it. She held out her left hand and Melinda grinned. “Ooh, nice,” she stated, and looked up at her father as they exchanged smiles. “So…does this mean that we are going to be, I dunno, a family?” she asked slowly. “We don’t know,” Leo said flat out. Piper looked at him, surprised and sad at the same time. “I don’t know if we should-” she started saying softly. “She deserves to know,” he responded, getting to his feet and looking Melinda in the eyes. “Deserve to know what?”
“The Elders…gave me a curfew, so to speak. A week.”
“A week? What do you mean?”
“One week here, and then they are going to not let me see you two again,” he said cautiously. “What?! How long have you known this?” she asked, looking at her mother, who stood up. “Since before the demon fight, when we were talking in the attic,” Piper said, feeling compassion for her daughter. She didn’t want to see her hurt. “And you didn’t tell me?” Melinda asked angrily. “We didn’t know how,” Piper explained. “Mel…” “Not…not now,” Melinda told her, holding up her hand to stop her mother from continuing. She didn’t want to have to deal with this anymore at the second. In one movement, she turned around and orbed out. The scenery changed before her eyes, and she arrived in a tree-filled area with a stream running beside it: it was her ‘spot’. She looked around angrily, and went over to sit on a log. Why did everything have to be so hard? All of the time?! She sighed in frustration. She wasn’t surprised when a shower of blue and white lights came a few feet away from her, forming into her dad. “I’m sorry, it if makes you feel any better,” he said sincerely. “Not at the moment, it doesn’t.”
“I know. I didn’t want to do this. Leave, I mean. I can’t do anything about it.”
“Can’t you just clip your wings or something?” He smiled slightly as he walked over and sat next to her, looking out over the beautiful landscape. “I’ve been trying to, for the last 15 years,” he responded lightly, and Melinda turned to look at him. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, ever since they took your mother away, I’ve been asking to have my wings clipped, but they wouldn’t hear of it.”
“Why not?” Leo shrugged. “Don’t know. Punishment, maybe. I don’t want you to think that I’ve just accepted everything, and that I’ve just accepted the fact that I can’t stay. Actually, I’ve done everything but that.” Melinda smiled, so he continued. “In the past couple days, I’ve been happier than I can ever remember being. I mean, not only did I have your mother back, but also I have a daughter. That’s…that’s pretty incredible. You’re pretty incredible.”
“Thanks,” Melinda responded shyly, and Leo smiled. “I don’t want to leave again. I don’t want to hurt you two more. I don’t want to leave you without a father.” They sat in silence for a few moments, listening to the water ripple through the stream, and thinking. “I’m just tired of getting my hopes up,” Melinda said, “and then getting them shot back down. All my life I’ve watched other people, with their dads, and I’ve always wanted to be like them. Normal, for lack of a better word. It’s not your fault, even though I’ve always tried finding rhyme or reason or someone to put the blame on. There have been times when I was angry with you. I didn’t even know who you were, or what you were doing or thinking. Sometimes I thought that you never tried to be with us. Other times I would make up little scenarios, of when you’d come and we could be happy. I suppose that’s what I thought would happen.” Leo listened quietly, feeling empathy for the girl sitting next to him, who never knew her father. He didn’t know whether or not to blame himself, just as she didn’t. There was nothing he could do. “I’m sorry,” he said again, unsure of what to say. “Don’t be. It’s not your fault.” She constantly surprised him, whether it was her personality or her maturity, like now. Piper raised her right. They sat in silence once again, no words needing exchanging anymore. Leo sighed deeply. Life was difficult, he realized, for more than just himself and Piper. He never realized until now how difficult Melinda had it. Of course he had thought about it, but he never thought of it like this. She was unbelievable: she was an old soul if there ever was one. She had been here before, Leo thought with a mental smile. She had been here on this earth before.

Oh that was great CharmedFan12. I loved seeing Mel and Leo just able to sit there in that beautiful "spot" and bond. Let things be out in the open. And I agree with the previous posts about seeing Leo so caring and compassionate once again. Anyway, here's your update. I'm sorry to have to put you through the waiting.
The afternoon had passed in a peaceful, thoughtful serenity for them, but also in a dispirited stillness, for it was a depressing time. The next day came, and Leo walked Melinda to school once more. Melinda hadn’t talked to Jamie since they had spoken to each other in the midst of the frozen classroom, but she wasn’t willing to go out of her way to make conversation. As it turned out, it would be Jamie that would come to her, but not in a way to be expected or liked. She brought frightful news. Melinda came home from school and dumped her bag down as usual and called for her parents quietly through the apartment. When she got no response, she walked over to her mom’s bedroom and saw that they were asleep. She smiled, and started to turn around, when hearing her mom’s voice surprised her. “Hey,” she said, and Melinda saw her looking at her. “Hey. I thought you were asleep,” Melinda said, as Piper sat up. She shook her head. “No, but he is, come on,” Piper said quietly, standing up and walking out. After she closed the door, she pulled Melinda into a loving hug. “I’m sorry about yesterday.”
“Don’t be. It’s alright.” “Life isn’t easy,” Piper started slowly. “It’s filled with all kinds of obstacles. This is one of them. We’ll figure everything out, and everything will work out, someday.” As Piper repeated her mother’s words that she had been repeating in her head for years and years, she felt a warmth in her heart. “You think so?”
“Yeah, I think so,” Piper said with a smile, hugging her tightly for a second before pulling away and looking in her daughter’s eyes. “You know, if I could turn back time and change everything, I don’t think I would.”
“You wouldn’t?” Melinda asked, surprised. Piper shook her head. “No. If that didn’t happen, I wouldn’t have you.”
The Source stood in all his might and glory in his chamber facing a scantily clad woman, lying on an elevated stone slab above the stone floor. The stone was everywhere, and it implied a cold and doom that surrounded the Source no matter where he was. The Oracle waved her hand lazily at the crystal ball in front of her. “What do you see of her?”
“I see…power…” “I know that! This girl and those pathetic Charmed Ones and their families killed an army of my demons!” The Source began pacing. “I am aware of that,” the Oracle said softly. “There is an immeasurable amount of power in this child, and I worry of your safety as long as she lives. She has the power to destroy you!” The Source halted his pacing, and turned his hooded head. “Truly?”
“Yes,” the Oracle said in her stern voice. “Tell me more about the half-breed.”
