I guess all of this mythology changed when they created Paige, and why it lead to Wyatt and Chris. Because I never saw Melinda as having any whitelighter powers in Morality Bites and just witch powers at best. The whitelighter lost their purpose if anyone can just birth them. It isn't a role earned anymore.
Still don't get why they had to give Paige whitelighter powers or hybrid powers at all. Paige's whitelighter powers should be dormant completely until she earned them or until after she died. She was suppose to be Prue's replacement and a witch. I would think she would inherit Prue's powers.
An episode I really like is Secrets and Guys. I liked how they portrayed the Whitelighters and Elders here. They really served the role as Guardian Angel. The mystery around them was perfect.

A reason why I am not a fan of S4-8 dears. When being a whitelighter is more important than being a Charmed One. Paige, Wyatt and Chris I know are beloved, but I didn't like dears that they were hybrids and that the trend would be set for future generations of Warren Witches inheriting whitelighter powers.
How horrible it must be to be a potential whitelighter, who truly had to earn their wings until after they died. Finding out that you only needed to inherit whitelighter abilities to have them. It would feel *very* upsetting to hear.

Maybe we do a mistake thinking at Paige Wyatt and Chris as hybrids, they simply are humans with witch and whitelighter powers, after alla, witches are humans, the sisters aren't half witches, they are witches as their mom and grand mom So, seeing that the whtelighters are homans woth a second chance, Paige, Wyatt and Chris are fully humans with some power inherit by a whiteloghter father

But whitelighter powers they should never have until they earn them - not dormant; not anything.
Paige, Wyatt and Chris should've been pure witches with pure witch-powers no matter who their father was, just like Cole should've been pure mortal, no matter who his mother was. They were alive. They should not have had powers you should only have when you're dead. Otherwise, as I said before, what's the difference between being a mortal or an whitelighter or a demon?
Except for powers, nothing.
For me, this all truly started with 'Blinded by the Whitelighter', which is why it will never be one of my favorite episodes despite the fun they had with the character of Natalie. If you didn't have to be dead to go Up There (or dead to go to the Underworld), not having to be dead in order to get whitelighter powers (or demonic powers) makes sense - it's back to whitelighters (and demons) are truly alive and no different than witches - just different powers - which takes away everything special about being a whitelighter or a demon.
Hence why I'll always consider S4-8 (and starting to consider S3...) as an alternate-universe spin-off. One a lot of fans love and that I might have had I never seen S1-2. But as is...I can't.
Which is a shame, because I do love Paige, so much more than Last-Half S3 Prue, Last-Half S3-8 Piper and Last-Half S3-8 Phoebe. Paige, Little Wyatt, Drake and Henry are the only things that make watching S4-8 bearable for me.
If only she was just a witch...
No, not just a witch.
A Charmed One.
That's what should've made her special - the way it made her half-sisters special - rather than just being a living whitelighter who could help her half-sisters cast Power of Three spells. After all, the show is called "Charmed" not "Whitelighter"

It got confusing with Cole for me, because up until he came along, I thought warlocks were humans who used their powers for evil, like witches were humans who used their powers for good, and demons were not human at all. Like warlocks and witches had the same type of DNA, just a different mindset with their magic, while demons were a different species entirely. As the show progressed, demons became more like what I always saw warlocks as: the same DNA as humans, just different powers that they used for different purposes.
Cole was supposed to be even stranger, a demon and a human together, yet his default seems to be a normal-looking human being, and he was able to conceive a child with a human. It would have been much better if he had been the product of a human with no powers and a warlock who raised him to use his abilities for evil. Demons should have been a different species that are more monster-like rather than who look like other human beings.

Cole is the only hybrid in Charmed, so the problem is that it'ld be possible have a child with an hybrid
In the animal world also, there are hybrids, produced by different species, such as zonkey, zebras and donkey or lynx, tiger and lion, but generally the product is sterile or not many fertile There is also a crazy professor who claims that the human species comes from a pair of monkeys and a wild boar..but I don't buy it
So it was possible that Cole and Phoebe had a child but Cole'ld have problem to do it, as few fertile, not Phoebe

I can totally understand why the producers made Wyatt, Paige etc part-whitelighter and gave them whitelighter powers. But they should never have had those powers. Whitelighters are dead! Not to be crude but Leo shouldn't have even been able to get "it" up! If he's dead then there is no blood circulation, which is what causes erections.
Over the course of its run Charmed seemed so intene to emulate its rival Buffy that in the end it just resembled a jarbled mess, with no real continuity and no real guidelines for what things should be. Is Paige half-dead? A zombie? She is a witch who somehow inherited whitelighter powers from her father. I can only imagine that since both witches and whiteligters were banned from getting together, the elders had some idea of what could happen to the off-spring, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they lie to whitelighters, tell them they're dead when they're not just to put off the whole relationship thing.
Wait.....is Piper a necropheliac?

I agree with what Sol wrote in another thread, Whitelighters are not dead, they are resurrected so they are living persons, above all they are able to die: if you can die, first you must be alive I think that the Elders simply feared a witch with whitelighter powers because they wanted command over the witches and if a witch can orb, can go to Up There also It's all about the power, maybe Wyatt was wise

I guess you can treat them as a immortal. Don't age or can be killed by regular human means. But can still die by some means. I still wouldn't say they are a living person. Witches are mortals and can die and age normally. Whitelighters can't, they can live forever and not age. However then when you have hybrids, well then it get's complicated because they can die and age normally. Now I see why many fans do not like Paige, Wyatt and Chris being hybrids.
However didn't they mention Leo was technically dead in an episode of Charmed?

Whitelighters aren't dead as in they are living corpses. They died and their souls/spirits were crafted into a new species called whitelighters.
People are mixing up what makes sense and what they don't like. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. Whitelighter still eat like mortals and still use the restrooms like mortals. The show NEVER contradicts itself on whitelighters as at no point did it ever state Whitelighter couldn't have children. Whitelighters still have all their bodily functions and parts.

Whitelighters still have all their bodily functions and parts. The confusion might in part be that Piper explicitly states in season two that whitelighters don't age. A lot of people took that to mean that he isn't as human as the sisters. It's hard to conceive of a being that eats and sleeps but physically stays the same. In the season four episode where his old friends from WW2 come back and throw that knife into his stomach, he self heals. We're led to believe that the only thing that can kill him is a darklighter arrow. It makes me wonder about what else he could survive besides clear and obvious injuries. If he refused to eat, would that count as something that could kill him? If he can self heal everything except darklighter poison, surely he could heal starvation. And then there's the idea that we never saw Leo living as a normal human. In the show after he was living with the sisters, he clearly sleeps and gets hungry just like a normal person. But for instance, where did he sleep before he lived in the Manor? Up There? How does that work? They never humanized anything about Leo's life apart from his time spent with the sisters, so it's hard to see him as human.

I thought the show's portrayal of warlocks was terrible from the start. They were portrayed more as demonic than the humans they should have been.

Also I want to point out that people saying why do all whitelighter witches have Telekinetic orbing I think it makes perfect sense.
If we include the idea that Prue has Telematerliztion although only shown once then we would have to conclude that all whitelights have Telekinesis although only shown once by Leo, Who at this point was a regular whitelighter. Thus being part witch and part Whitelighter would amplify these abilities making them Telekinetic orbing.
