* Why did you pull out of the competition?
I pulled out because I was scared of all the wonderful talent at this place... LOL Just kidding. I had to pull out of the competition due to illnesses in the household.

* Did you enjoy the challenge?
I enjoyed both challenges that I took part in. They were both fun and challenging.

* Do you think you learned anything from taking part in the challenge? If yes, what?
To be honest the only thing I learned was how to scream at my computer for stalling all the time.

* What would have been your ideal task?
My ideal task was done already. To make a banner with matching avatar.

* Any additional comments?
This was a great idea and very fun and inviting. I wish everyone good luck with their work and have fun. Thanks so much to Clare and all the Charmed Cafe staff that allowed this competition to take place!

Since i'm the only one who not always understands the rules is because i'm a natural Dutch girl. I learned english from books. So I don't always understand what you people type sometimes. Specialy with the contest. The rules are so difficult english for me.
You people talk it everyday, night, morning and evening, afternoon. I don't I talk Dutch. English is sometimes an hard languages for me. But I learned english. From reading, speaking and looking things up.

Try to understand Dutch one day and you will understand know hard it is..

Oh and maybe my entry's are bad. One of the reasons can be that I didn't understand them. Put that in mind!

I don't think you were being rude at all Nicholas. I speak English everyday and sometimes I don't understand the rules either. That is why this is a challenge. If it was easy there would be no point in even having it going! Just pointing out that everyone can have a hard time with it and that is why it is so interesting and fun. You are going to have good entries and bad entries. The judges tell you what they think and that teaches you to do better. My last scores were not that good but it just shows that I have work to do. Don't be upset because of the harsh words or low scores It's all just for fun to help teach you not to make you mad...

The Task:
For this task you will need to create 2 pieces - both of which will be Charmed DVD covers.

Charmed DVD cover #1
This cover must be in the style of the actual Charmed DVDs. It can be for any season of your choice and it must feature 1 sister (it can be any of the 4) and 2 other characters from the show (this cannot be any of the sisters) - but remember that the characters you use must actually be in the season you are making the cover for.

The rules for this cover:
1. You only need to create the front of the DVD cover.
2. It must resemble the size/ratio of the actual Charmed DVDs.
3. It must be in the same style as the real Charmed DVD covers - this means the font, types of images used, backgrounds and the extra little bits on your cover are very important.
4. You must use 3 "cut-out" images - these must be images from photoshoots - and place them onto your cover like how they actually are on the actual Charmed DVDs.

Charmed DVD cover #2
This cover allows you to be more creative as it will be in your own style and can be either:
a - a Charmed Season 9 DVD cover featuring the characters that you think would be the leads in season 9.
or
b - a Charmed movie DVD cover featuring the characters that you think would be in the movie and featured on the actual DVD case.

The rules for this cover:
1. You only need to create the front of the DVD cover.
2. You need only do one of the mini-tasks (either "a" or "b" - not both).
3. You must choose an appropriate size/ratio for your DVD cover.
4. It must be in your own style - this means you can use whichever fonts, background images, character images, extras, etc. that you would like and place them wherever you want on the cover.
5. It must feature the title of the show/movie, the season number (if you choose to do "a") or a subtitle for the movie (if you choose to do "b" and you think that the movie would have a subtitle).
6. You can use images of as many or as few characters that you think are appropriate for the cover you choose to create.
7. You can choose which type of image (photoshoot or screencap) to use and whether or not to "cut" these images out.


The Overall Rules:
1. All work must be your own.
2. You must follow all the rules for the 2 individual mini-tasks.
3. You must use text and can use brushes, textures, etc. but, again, no animations.
4. The deadline to enter your piece for the 3rd round is Sunday 5th October 2008 - although, if all entries are again received before this date, the poll will be able to be opened sooner.
5. You must PM your graphics to any of the 4 judges:

8. Once you have submitted your pieces via PM, you must not tell anyone else which entry is yours or describe what yours looks like until after the results have been announced.
9. These rules are subject to change throughout this round so please check them regularly.

Q&A

Q: What is the size/ratio of an actual DVD cover?
A: You could measure it with a ruler for the size, then work out a ratio so you know what size it should be in pixels. Or you could just estimate the size.

Q: What are "cut-out" images?
A: By cut-out images, I just mean: i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee155/claresown/cutting.jpg .

Q: Can we still use different brushes and stuff? As long as it looks like a Charmed DVD?
A: On the 1st cover - you can use brushes and textures as long as it still resembles the style of the actual covers. On the 2nd cover - you can do whatever you want, as it's in your own style.

Q: Can we hand the 2 covers in separately or both at the same time?
A: They must both be handed in together.

Q: Will we lose "marks" if they are bigger than normal DVD covers?
A: Since the rules say "It must resemble the size/ratio of the actual Charmed DVDs." - as long as you follow this, you shouldn't lose marks (there's no exact size that your covers should be, just as long as they aren't too big or too small).

Q: When we make the first part, is it just a DVD cover saying "Charmed" or is it like a 'remake' of one of the seasons?
A: It's just a cover for one of the seasons of your choice with 1 of the sisters and 2 different characters (who appear in that season) on it. You have to do it in the same style as the actual DVD covers but you can alter some of the details - like the colours and photos used, etc - as long as they stay true to the style of the actual covers. It's not a remake of the season, just a redo of the packaging - if you understand.

Q: Can we remake the DVD, like the the season we choose, just use different images?
A: Do you mean use the same (real) DVD cover but just cut out the images of the characters and paste different ones in? Well, not really because then only 1/2 of the cover would really be your own work.

Q: Should we just put "Charmed" on it. Nothing else?
A: It should have whatever these: dvd.locutus.be/charmed-season1-8.jpg have on them.

Q: Will we get marked down if we have done the cover for both the front and back?
A: No, you won't get marked down since the rules state "You only need to create the front of the DVD cover." - meaning you only need to do the front but if you want to do the back too, then you can.

Q: Just to be clear, The 1st one is from one of the seasons and has to have just 1 sister and then any 2 other characters from that same season? And the 2nd can have any characters that would be the leads?
A: Yes, for the 1st cover - choose a season then 1 sister and 2 other characters from that same season. And again, yes, for the 2nd cover - use whoever you think would be the leads in the movie or season 9.

Q: Does the 2nd also have to be the same size and style of the charmed DVDs?
A: The 2nd cover should be in your own style and it's up to you about the size of it (since this one is in your own style) - so think about how you would present the DVD, would it be in a big box like the actual boxsets or a slim case like some DVDs are? But if you use the same size for both covers then that is fine.

Q: I've hit artists block - would it be o.k. if I sent some stuff to you and asked for your opinion? Or sent it to someone else?
A: It's not against the rules to show drafts of your work (draft work before you've submitted the final piece) to other people but really, it is unfair since those people could know what your final piece will look like. I think I will make that a new rule in the next round - not to show any work to anyone until after the results.

Q: Do the pictures have to be from actual Charmed promos? Or can they be from any photoshoot the actor has done?
A: Any photoshoots.

Q: I don't have the Charmed font on my computer anymore, does that mean i'm out of the challenge?
A: If you can't get the exact font, just use one that looks similar. You aren't out of the challenge just because of that.

Oh indeed it is! Clare normally posts when everything is locked and combines the judges scores with everyone else's and gives us our critiques! That's the best part lol, hopefully we receive them tomorrow? Im eager to know whose everyone's was..

Well, the *poll* is locked, so our part is done, but sometimes the judges haven't finished *their* parts--and they usually don't give out the next task until the judges are done. That's what's so nerve-wracking for the contestants; waiting for the judges. It's why we've put a deadline on the judges as well as the contestants for "Who Wants to be a WitchWRITER?" But the judges for *this* contest are doing SOOOO much better than the ones at the contest at a different site which inspired WitchWRITER...that one gives the contestants a week deadline and then take between 3 weeks and 2 MONTHS before they give the contestants the results! And, no, I am *not* exaggerating! And they wonder why people keep dropping out and show no interest... *shakes head in disbelief*.

I also can't wait to see what the judges think, even as I smile that most of the other members chose the same ones I did.
