sorry about that back to whether cole was evil or not Yes, Cole was evil. And he was good. He was also ambiguous. I can say the same about the Halliwells, Leo and a lot of other characters. I just wish that the show's writers were able to openly acknowledge the ambiguity in all of the characters, instead of dumping this black-and-white characterization on them.

Maybe the writers wanted to use the characters to show different aspects of life and human nature and they didn't have enough room to fit that into every character so they created Cole solely for that purpose.

I agree with Jate, he has a point there.

I would question the word create! My history is a bit vague on this point. But, I believe the character of Cole created some controversy within Charmed. Connie Burge was not necessarily happy about an on-going character as Cole became. Thus, I suspect that Cole's role/characterization evolved as the length of his tenure increased. Indeed, as rumor has it, Kern was planning on a relationship between Paige and Cole had Cole not left early. And, Cole was projected in an Avatar story arc that never truly materialized.

Vandergraafk also has a point there. I think at first they might have just been planning to only make Belthazar a full demon and have him vanquished sometime during s3. Prue's departure might have been part of the reason why they kept him around.
Did Cole leave on his own will or did Kern want him to leave mid S5 or was there a lot of behind the scenes drama associated with that as well? This question was probably answered somewhere else on the cafe so a simple answer will do for here.

Indeed, as rumor has it, Kern was planning on a relationship between Paige and Cole had Cole not left early. Actually, I believe this was addressed in one of the Charmed magazines. Kern had intended to do a Phoebe/Cole/Paige triangle (which I believe was set to start in season five), but it didn't get cut because Julian left, it got cut because once Holly, Rose, and Alyssa recieved the scripts with said triangle, they went to Kern and said they were not happy with a Paige/Cole direction and wanted him to drop the storyline, so the Paige/Cole storyline was axed. Did Cole leave on his own will or did Kern want him to leave mid S5 or was there a lot of behind the scenes drama associated with that as well? This question was probably answered somewhere else on the cafe so a simple answer will do for here. I could be wrong, but I think Julian wanted to leave the show and ended up being paid quite a handsomely to stay on through the 100th episode.

When Season 5 first aired, there were rumors that Julian was very unhappy with the show's new direction and writing.

I see. What types of characters and story plots does Cole like? I've heard of his roles in other shows and movies but I've only seen him on charmed.

By the way, you should check him out in NIP/TUCK. Rent some episodes, if you can. Wow! He actually managed to snag a Golden Globe nomination for the series' Season 2.

Thanks, Fourever Charmed. I recall reading that in Charmed magazine. Don't remember which issue. Nor do I remember if I also read about the Avatar story arc there as well. I do believe that someone, perhaps Assassin Witch or one of our founders, provided this information.

At least that is what it seemed to me. I don't think his demonic background made him more evil than the others.

A quote from my favorite anime Not sure how much it will contribute to the conversation but I thought I'd give it a try. "He is like an ant hill. The deeper you dig the more tunnels appear and inside each is a little black creature waiting to pounce. Layer upon Layer of contradicting ideas and intensely wrought obsessions but underneath it all I suspect you will find just a normal man with a wounded heart and a broken dream."

i seemed to remember something about what prue said to phoebe when she asked bout being evil. i am not as good as you all are in what episode or word for word. that you can choose to be evil or good. and i think like christie wasnt born evil but years of being subjected to evil she became just that. cole's father was proably a good man thats why his mother killed him. i am guessing. and i am wondering if maybe coles mother wasnt always evil. after all she at least loved cole's father enough to have a baby. would of been interesting to know that whole story. we got cheated only bits and peices. to answer the question was cole evil? yes to a certain extent. i thought he had more good in him than evil.. personal opinion

Most of this thread is merely opinion and there isn't much fact. Is that good or bad?
