I will admit that it took me awhile to connect to Paige on any level as I was very disappointed in Prue's departure. To some degree I never really accepted her, but after reading some of the members post I have had to rethink my feelings.
Assassin Witch made a nice observation regarding Paige's chosen occupation. A social workers main goal is to help and encourage there clients, so it would seem her "Witchligher" capabilities were inborn. Nice touch!!
I also was impressed with the member who noticed that she did not attempt to be a Prue wanna-be. Smart move. If you look at this as something in reality, she never met Prue so there was nothing to emulate. All she could do and be was herself. We all should strive to arrive at that plane. This could also explain why she might have kept the name Matthews.
By the time she took her place in the world she was born into, regardless if Prue lived or not, she was well into her 20's. She was not raised a Halliwell. She called others mom and dad and we learned that she loved them dearly. She had to get to know Grams before she could address her as such. This seems very normal to me. She was a Halliwell product by birth but lived the life of a Matthews. Keeping her name helped her to retain her individually and this is something I think we all desire.
Being a member of a family makes us part of a whole. It connects us and grounds us and I would like to think this is a good thing, but we all want to be special/different in some area. Even identical twins want a certain amount of space that they can call their own. By staying a Matthews but learning to deal with who she really was I think shows that she was willing to bend but not break. I thank the members for their insight as I have just learned to really appreciate the the abilities and strengths of Paige.
I don't think I can pass judgment as to Paige being a witch or a white lighter any more than I can tell my parents I do not want to be Irish on my father's side and Scotch on my mother's. I can either learn to deal with it or ignore it but nothing will change. It is what it is. I am who I am.
She was born part witch part light lighter. It just is what it is. She has gifts from both sides and in a way that made her both special an unique. Blessed be....

I thought it made perfect sense for Paige to quit her job and go to temping. She didn't feel that her social work was full-filling at that time and she needed to do something different. Paige needed new experiences and her temping position seemed to bring innocents to her. It even brought her to work for Phoebe, though I do not remember the point of that. Sometimes before you take a step forward you have to take 2 steps back. Eventually, she did go back to her old job. But before she could do that she decided to try Magic School. Paige is a free spirit and needs lots and lots of new experiences... lol.

i think pagie is good at both and that she should be a witch and whitelighter because she can balance them both and still have time for her self

I agree to that!!! I think at the beginning when she tried to find out who she was and what she was, she had a hard time. And at first she also don´t wanted to be a whitelighter... But later she accepted it and it showed that she could do both things without a problem!!! A part of her was used to do things alone, as she had grown up without siblings, but I think her family on the other hand completed her!!!

Paige is defintely my favorite. I collect Pullips, and am going to customize one to be Paige. Eventually, I'll add the other Charmed Ones.

Well, I definitely love Paige. I was a fan of Rose McGowan before she joined "Charmed." I loved her as Tatum from the movie "Scream." Of course, I love all the 4 Charmed sisters. ;D

Don't you mean . . . a "witch" capability? Most witches act as either healers, counselors or spiritual guides. Paige doesn't need to be a whitelighter.

I like her whitelighter side and agree about the social worker thing. She was good as a witch (especially making potions) but I thing she makes a better whitelighter for sure. I really like like Paige even though she isn't my favorite of the sisters, I still like her for her quirkiness. I also think the show focused more on her whitelighter side as well.

I would've preferred her dead and pure whitelighter over witchlighter. After all, all of her powers were truly whitelighter ones. If she didn't have to be a witch in order to be part of the Power of Three (and I would've preferred that dying when Prue died), she really wouldn't have been a witch at all.

I think she became a full whitelighter in the end, though she has had to be a witch for the Power of Three. After all, she had to teach the next generation.

I couldnt imagine Paige any other way then being half witch and whitelight. I thought it was a nice way to keep her separate from Prue.

I like Paige both as Whitelighter and witch. She was great when she was a social worker, but also quite good as a witch. I can sort of understand her doing temp jobs for a while, but after that she should have gone back to being a social worker: it didn't make sense for her to quit her job in the first place. Maybe she could have kept her job as a social worker, and on the side do a few temps jobs? I also think the Elders shouldn't have forced charges on her, but wait until she was ready and willing to take care of them, all the while keeping her job as social worker, if that's even possible.

I agree with you there to nimue. It always made no sense to me why Paige gave up being a social worker as that's what she loved doing and who she was which would've been more believeable when she did become a whitelighter eventually other than her temp jobs and a way she could've met Henry earlier through his parolees had he been introduced sooner and I didn't like her having loads of whitelighter powers as she was supposed to be half one obviously but then the way the writers portrayed the elders as been intervering busy bodies instead of people who didn't because of free will and letting people make their own choices then it I would've prefeered her not been whitelighter at all.

She wa also an amateur painter, she loved to sing , she was a boisterous spirit:witch or not, I don't think she'ld have worked extensively as social worker

Paige started out so strong as a character. Her debut season was the best for her. She had her college degree, she had her Social Worker job, and her had her adopted family (like the Uncle Dave she was talking to on the phone when we first see her).
Too bad all that got tossed out the window in the later seasons. The writers basically treated Paige like she'd always been a Halliwell (I'm surprised they didn't have her change her last name to Halliwell). Her adopted family was forgotten. She never even mentioned them again. It was like her pre-Charmed like never existed at all.
P3nathan said this:
He's right. The writers clearly had no direction for Paige, she was just there to fill an empty slot.
I can see why Rose wanted out, she started with this strong character, only to see that character butchered to nothing by the writers.

Even at her funeral, they forgot that she had at least an uncle and an aunt!
I had some doubt about the actress, rather static, only in season 8 she started acting convincingly, also Paige'character, after a good debut, has been oscillating between the young witch with inferiority complex towards a never known sister and a skeptical person uncertain about who she was
I'm not so sure that social worker was her appropriate job, she had artistic flair, it'ld be nice if her passion for painting - Prue also loved art - had become love for photography
I still hate that she is portrayed as a whitelighter: she is a witch, as Wyatt and Chris, she may orb and heal but she's a witch, the gift of healing doesn't belong only to whitelighters
Have the Elders plagued Piper's sons also to turn them in living whitelighters? I doubt it

I meant that there are healers even among ordinary people as there are the empaths Paigemay be a witch with a whitelighter legacy but she is essentially a witch and the Elders has no right to force her being a living whitelighter
