Of course, the main difference is that Gideon, being an Elder, was much more powerful than Rick was. Take away Rick's gun, which Paige should have done by orbing, and you've got him beaten. Gideon with his Elder powers, was a much more dangerous opponent. Maybe but think about this say if Paige did call for the gun and Rick fires the gun before it's totally consumed in orbs then what? Paige is lying there in a pool of blood, Rick I'm guessing will escape again with Phoebe,Leo is up in the upper regions unaware of what's going on and I have no idea what Piper was doing at this time. So everyone is screwed.

So everyone is screwed. Or Paige could panic-orb before it hits her. Many go with that reasoning, but watching the scene again recently, there was ample opportunity, not just in that scene but throughout the episode, to get the gun away from him. Just looking at that one scene, Rick took a good long moment checking himself out in the mirror with the gun pointed well away from Phoebe or Paige. If she really, really, really couldn't orb the gun, which I don't buy, but just imagining she absolutely couldn't. Paige holds her hands behind her back, whispers bullets... Rick's gun is useless. There, no need to murder someone. But as I say, he was distracted more than enough that it never needed to get so far. And again, they'd dealt with guns before and since... their powers saved them from bullets many times.

Maybe another reason why she didn't orb the gun was she probably didn't think about it at the time. Well heck that's possible!

Yeah, I could say "Orb the gun, Paige." many times during that scene. There was plenty of time.
That was the problem, sometime between Season Four and Five, Paige lost the ability to think. Es's calling her a Ditzy Valley Girl at this point is spot on.
