Jean Update Thread

I thought I'd create this thread as a means of updating members here on Jean's condition instead of typing messages all the time in the shoutbox bombarding that because it seems it'll be some months before she fully recovers from COVID 19.

Any future messages will be updated here when the person whose in touch with Jean's sister has news and I relay that here with his permission of course.

Okay then here's the latest update the person in touch with Jean's sister received. 

This week Jean (although she still hasn't tested negative yet for the virus still). Jean is starting to experience distress caused by PTSD. As we were told likely happens to patients in ICU for so long. Still acting confused and out of it and crying to go home. Luckily my daily calls to her are helping.

But some good news, Jean's fever is nearly gone, and chances of Jean testing negative are very high. If so, she'll be moved to the COVID ward in the rehabilitation hospital.

This's good to hear although sad she has PTSD which I know how can be offal for other people especially victims of trauma or army vets. Here's hoping she improves and her family will be able to see her once she moves into the rehabilitation hospital socially distanced obviously.

Very happy to hear that. Praying she'll test negative and get to leave ICU to the rehavmb hospital. Especially her family being able to visit her. That will help SO much in her recovery.

So sad to hear about her PTSD. I can't imagine how being in ICU and not seeing your family at all for a few months apart from a phone call is.

Well, Jean's family were prepared for the possibility of this from what doctors said but are just glad her fever's nearly passed then.

Latest news for everyone on Jean.

Jean's fever is nearly gone, this week a slow drop again and they did think it would be gone, but every little progress counts. Still not tested negative yet. Doctors say any day now but look her progress is just a bit slower to get that fever gone and negative result. Like before when that negative test comes in and her fever is gone, she can leave ICU and go to the rehab hospital.

I mentioned to Jean that everyone is pulling for her at the board. She thanks everyone for all the kind words. She also misses GTTS and The Café re-watches and CCDOW. But can barely remember what the last thing she did at either. Still coming to terms with everything, but the PTSD is still popping in and out with her feeling uncomfortable.

Glad Jean's slightly improved and that she thanks us for all the kind messages but still a long way to go obviously.

Latest from Jean's sister.

JEAN'S FEVER IS GONE! Paperwork is ready on standby to be done to transfer her to the COVID wing at the rehab hospital, once the negative result shows, likely coming any day now.

I sure hope so. After three long months, she'll get to leave ICU.

Latest news on Jean.

Update: Firstly, so sorry Tim for the late reply than I normally do on Saturdays. But I've been tied up with Mothers Day weekend.

I have both good and bad news to report. Good news Jean has FINALLY left ICU after three months, her negative test result has finally come. She is settling into the rehab ward at the rehab hospital since Thursday. Yes, guests are allowed. So our mom got to see her daughter Jean on Mother's Day, and that was the best Mother's Day gift she could be given.

Jean is much happier here than in ICU naturally, with us visiting her daily. However, she still has signs of PTSD. brain fog and forgetting stuff, and feels dizzy and tired. But hopefully, with rehab, she can get back to being her normal self. Also experiencing lots of dizziness when standing at the rehab hospital helps her to get back to normal and helping her a little bit every day to walk.

But I'm afraid we got given some bad news. We were warned about the possible side effects of being on the vent for so long. Jean might be suffering from a kidney disorder. As we're told people who’ve had COVID-19 and beaten it, are still at risk and may experience multiple conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disorders, long into the future.

However, I'm taking their words as MIGHT, as just that she might suffer from it, and hoping Jean won't get any other complications and she'll make a recovery in the next few months.

But her getting a negative test result and in the rehab hospital, is the best news we've had in our family in three months.

I'm pleased Jean tested negative and is now in the ICU but pray she doesn't have any long-term side effects from COVID i.e. she doesn't have kidney, heart, or diabetes.

Oh, how wonderful that Jean is out of the ICU and in rehab! I'm so glad she got to see her mom on Mother's Day - a fantastic Mother's Day present for both of them!

Here's hoping that she doesn't have any bad after-effects from her stay on the vent and that she'll be back to herself and enjoying helping us work on Classic Charmed Done Our Way soon!

New update about Jean.

A week filled with lots of trial and error. Both with good and bad news.

Bad news first: Jean was using the walkers to walk as the rehab staff help her to get back to normal. She had a bad fall, and now Jean has a broken leg. I'll admit, we are upset thinking that the staff was not taking care of my sister. Turns out the nurse was out of the room for 1 minute when Jean attempted to get out of bed and walk on her own. I don't blame her for being in ICU for three months on a vent, she is eager to walk again and get out and do stuff on her own, but we've all told her to press the buzzer and rely on staff and not get out of bed herself if she can't, even if she thinks she can. But still, the poor thing has enough on her plate trying to get better, now she has to recover with a broken leg, which delays her recovery.

Still has signs of forgetting things and tired often.

Good news: Jean was in good spirits on Friday morning (the best she has been all week), that she was watching something on the Ipad I brought in, and finally got to watch the first episode of Superman and Lois. She was so happy to watch a show for the first time in months. She really liked it, but needs to re-watch it again she said when she can go home when it's time. The nurses might allow her a television in the room, and I do hope they will, as when she has no visitors it will be boring.

Oh poor Jean. I'm glad she enjoyed watching Superman and Lois but not that she fell and broke her leg because she didn't wait for the nurse to help her get out of bed although we can't really blame her having been in a coma 3 months then.

Hopefully nothing else happens and that what happened is a reminder to ask for help if she needs it obviously.

Oh no. Poor Jean. I get how frustrating it must be for her wanting to have her life back, and being stuck in hospital for so long.

Thankfully it was just her leg broken and nothing more serious.

I so hope the nurses let her have a television to help her boredom with recovery.
