How did you discover Charmed, not when you became a fan, but when you discovered it and thought: Let's see what this is all about.
Me, simple channel surfing. I was waiting for another show to begin (Frasier) but had about 60mins to give away before Frasier was on, so i started some channel surfing. Then on one of the channels, i suddenly saw Shannen Doherty together with this girl from Picket Fences and the other one from Who's the Boss (did not know their names at the time) and began watching what this was all about. Lucky i stumbled over this episode right in the beginning, the credits suddenly came: Charmed So i watched this episode and when it was over, i thought that this was not that bad.
That was how i discovered Charmed. It was as i later found out a Season 2 episode: The Devil's Music So this episode has a little special place in my heart, since it introduced me to Charmed.

So basically i watched it and then got addicted and stuffs lol

My mom. She was watching the first season without me. I went to her room for some reason maybe to take a shower(she has a walk in shower in her master bathroom which is much better than the regular bathroom which has a tub) and I noticed her watching and asked her and she said I might like it. Or maybe she just randomly said I might like it I don't remember which one exactly. But I agreed to watch the pilot with her(She did not mind rewatching it) and I was hooked.

I don't remember exactly when I decided to watch . It was either when I had been watching 7th Heaven (I think) and saw ads for Oh My Goddess. And I saw a bunch of other ads for it during the week and I watched it that Sunday and liked it. But didn't watch the repeats in the summer.
Or I had been watching something on the WB before Oh My Goddess and didn't have the remote to change the channel and I was in the middle of getting my hair french braided and didn't want to stop to get up and change the channel. Either way I still started watching it and didn't want to change the channel.

When my mom told me that a new series with Brenda from 90210 would be starting and it was about 3 sisters who were witches.
Watched the premiere of the series the next night and never stopped.

It's amazing that we keep repeating threads. Did you know that this thread already exists in the Bay Mirror? Fanzine: How I came to be Charmed? Maybe we need a directory to help newcomers and veterans locate existing threads. Let's see: there are at least 4 Prue threads that overlap. Yada, yada, yada.... Worse: it seems like all of the old threads sort of stopped around July/August. Since then, a whole bunch of new threads have erupted. That's fascinating!

I also found out about it from the ads when it was first on. The fact that I love(d) Holly on "Picket Fences" and Alyssa on "Who's the Boss?" is what caught my attention (I never watched BH 90201 so Shannen was totally new to me)
I volunteer at a cat shelter and when the show first started and it was on a Wednesday, well, that was the night I volunteered and I got home around 8:30, so I'd miss half of it, but I still watched each of those halves, trying to figure out what I missed (I didn't have a VCR and this is long before TiVO). I loved the idea of three sisters who happened to be witches and loved all three sisters. I especially loved how differently they each saw getting their powers in typical Oldest, Middle and Baby fashion, making me think of me and my own sisters. Then when Leo became part of the group, well, I was totally hooked!
The following season The WB switched the show to Thursday night so I was able to see the whole thing. The most fun was when they'd rerun Season One shows, so I'd *finally* get to see what I missed the year before!

I don't mind repeating myself if it helps newbies feel more comfortable and want to stay. And if the mods think it's repeating stuff too much, they'll add a link to the end and close the thread.

I knew about the show. One day I had nothing to do, it was summer vacations so I turned on the TV and I did some channel surfing and there was CHARMED. So I decided to watch it. The first episode I ever watched was "Pardon My Past" and I've been hooked ever since ;D

Worse: it seems like all of the old threads sort of stopped around July/August. Since then, a whole bunch of new threads have erupted. That's fascinating! Well there are a couple reasons for that. Some proboards admins dislike bumping very old threads. So newbies sometimes worry about that, I have seen several with this worry at a Disney proboard I am also with. also when there are so many pages of threads(which I know this place is not one of them I am speaking in general) its annoying to go through page after page just to make sure a thread you want to start does not already exist. Sometimes a topic is best res erected when a new thread is created for it because when a topic hasn't been discussed for so long a lot of people tend to forget about it, and are reluctant to pay attention when an old thread for the topic is re erected because if the thread is long enough the topic can be considered finished. Or if they are new to message boards period than maybe they did not know to look. So no need to be uppity, its not the end of the world. There are good reasons for repeating a topic, and thats not the greatest way to welcome a newbie. Give them a little slack.

I was really bored and watched TV and then Charmed began. I decided to watch the Episode and I really liked it, so the next day I watched it again and I liked that one too, so since then I've always been watching it on TV.

I read an article about it in a teen magazine called "Twist". The article had a promo picture from season four (the one where they're all in pink tops I believe). I thought Alyssa and Rose looked gorgeous (I had no clue who the other girl was) and the article detailed that the new season was about to start. It also went on to talk about how Shannen Doherty was fired from the show because Alyssa gave the producers an ultimatum. The article, of course, was just rumours but I did pick a side (I chose Alyssa's since I'd never seen Shannen in anything).
I began the series in season four ("Enter the Demon") and alas I'd only made it to the end of season six (thanks to CTV changing the time slot Charmed had).
Thanks to the boxset DVDs, I watched the entire series in 2007 and have become hooked ever since!

I did't even know there already was one, looked arround but did not discover any thing about the subject, must have missed it during the looking. I noticed on "when i became a fan" but not "how did i discover Charmed", you know: The very first watching of an episode that lead to becomming a fan later.

My guess is that is a fundamental weakness of the proboards set-up. I run my own site too. Thank goodness there's less traffic. I can pretty much control things. Still, if someone new were to come on my site or another site and wonder: where would I find so and so? Well, there's really not a mechanism to allow you to type in key words.
I don't know enough about what Esmeralda is talking about since I've encountered this problem yet. But, I'm certain that what she is describing can certainly be accomplished by the moderators. In the meantime: let anarchy reign!

In case you can't tell, we LOVE anarchy! That's why the Cafe is one of the most popular websites ever, because newbies feel comfortable.
And I'm enjoying reading how all of our newer members discovered Charmed--not necessarily how they became fans (although we're learning that, too), but discovered our show.

Well, i used to watch the WB from time to time, usually 7th heaven *is embarrassed*. About four years ago or so, I saw a commercial for Charmed, but i had no idea what it was about. Then one day soon after, i was just randomly flipping through channels, when i came across the WB. Charmed happened to be on. I believe it was the season premiere of season 6, and it was at a part where the charmed ones were disguised as Valkyries. Well, since i had no idea what the show was about, i assumed that they dressed like that on a day to day basis, so i thought that was kind of weird. Little did i know, they dress normally and they are pretty darn fashionable too. But anyway, my sister walked into the room and she was like, "Oh this is that stupid show Charmed. Change the channel." So, since i already thought the show was strange, i changed the channel and never gave it a second thought. The end. Hahah just kidding. So, i never saw it again until september of 2007. I had my car in the shop and i was just sitting in the waiting room listening to my ipod. I looked over at the tv and noticed that it was on TNT, and Charmed was on. I was able to recognize the show, but i still didn't know much about it. But i was pleased to see the Charmed Ones wearing normal clothes, so i took out my headphones and began watching. Strangely enough, it was another episode from season 6. I don't remember the name of the episode, but the seen that was on was when Phoebe was putting lipstick on Piper, helping her get ready for a date, and she was talking to her about how tough it was dealing with her new empath power. So, i continued watching, but towards the end of the episode, my car was done so i left. I watched it the next day, and was delighted to find that they show two episodes back to back each day. But at first i was still really confused. I didn't know what their powers were. I thought they could all orb. I didn't realize that Paige could only orb because she's half whitelighter. Heck, i didn't even know what a whitelighter was. But i did some research, and got some background info, so i quickly caught on. And i've been watching ever since, and i love it! =] The funny thing is, that same sister who said it was stupid now loves it as much as i do. I got her addicted.

Please don't be embarrasssed about watching 7th Heaven--since that's the only show I watched on The WB besides Charmed, I'm pretty sure that that's what *I* was watching when I first saw the commercials for Charmed! I enjoyed reading your tale and glad that your sister came around--it's so much better to get to share the show! My friend, who lives in the apartment above mine, started watching it on her own before she moved in. We were already friends by that point, but both of us were too embarrassed to admit that we both watched Charmed. Then one Sunday she was cooking supper and had some extra so phoned and asked if I wanted to come up and join her. I did and she happened to be watching Charmed. I was *so* surprised! From then on we both watched every Sunday (part of the reason why I kept watching even after I no longer liked it) and thoroughly enjoy discussing it. Thanks again for sharing! And because I enjoyed your tale so much, you have been blessed!
