Well, that's because no one knew that that would be Shannen's last episode and then they didn't want to pay her for her image, so we never got to see anything else. But if you want to see what could've/should've happened, check out these fanmade videos: thecharmedcafe.proboards.com/thread/8989/shining-allures-story-prues-deathAs for the rest, I'll wait until you see the entire series, then it will make more sense.

Ok thanks for trying to explain this... it makes sense the way you wrote it... the way i understood it... they were planning to make season 4 with Prue and continue it from where it was left at episode 22 season 3 but she had to leave and they just had to do things this way? Because if that is the case it is not their fault. Things like that happen. But it still feels kinda weird... it feels like something is missing and that is why they skipped so many things and just let them be like this. I would expect something more from the ppl who made the first 3 seasons.

Phoebe is to blame for being more concerned about finding Cole. And Leo is to blame for erroneously assuming that they had vanquished Shax the first time. But I mainly blame Prue and Piper for what happened. They were the ones who left the manor to track down Shax and kill him in broad daylight, instead of preparing for another attack by the demon to kill the doctor. This action led to them being exposed. I also blame Prue and Piper for allowing Phoebe to search for Cole, despite their misgivings. Phoebe would have never been able to teleport to the Source's Realm via a "magic-to-magic" spell without Prue and Piper's help. Think I'm joking? Watch "All Hell Breaks Loose" again. They should have refused to help send Phoebe to the Source's Realm until they could confirm that the situation with Shax was over. BUT THEY DIDN'T.

I tried to read this thread but reading about it still makes me cry. I feel like I'm 10 years old again and just seen AHBL by accident after promising myself I'd never watch it because I loved Prue so much lol.

It's simple really had all 3 sisters not assumed Shax was dead the first time and Phoebe not gone down to the underworld leaving them without the P03 to vanquish him which Prue and Piper let her do before going outside afterwards getting themselves exposed not considering the consequences beforehand then they would've got Shax the second time with Phoebe there having not been exposed prior saving Griffths along with Piper and Prue later on because time wouldn't have been reset then obviously.
Sorry guys but all 3 sisters were to blame for what happened then I think through their stupid reckless behaviour which could've been avoided had they thought things through properly and done things right in the first place.

All Hell Breaks Loose has alot of plotholes and errors. The only reason it's popular is its Prue's last episode, had Shannen stuck around for one more season, it wouldn't be as popular anymore I'm sure.
Brad Kern wrote a crappy script, but Shannen directed a great episode. She did the best she could with the script.

One has to remember that Shannen didn't know it would be her final episode. She thought she would be back the following season. But...
What happened to Prue? Brad Kern happened.

Shannen and Alyssa are professionals, they would easily work together even if they do not like each-other. If Kern wasn't an ass, he would of not fired Shannen, and at the beginning of season 4, came up with a plan, for releasing Shannen after season 4, but wrapping up loose ends with her. But no, he didn't. Oh well.

Brad Kern wrote a crappy script, but Shannen directed a great episode. She did the best she could with the script. You pretty much nailed it. AHBL was FAR from a perfect episode, and actually had some pretty glaring errors. We never found out why the Source wanted Dr. Griffiths dead, for example. And, the way the sisters acted in it was just awful, from Phoebe ditching her sisters for Cole while Shax was still at large to Prue and Piper stupidly chasing after Shax in public in broad daylight. And, the only reason the cliffhanger ending had any oomph was because of Shannen's firing forcing them to kill Prue offscreen. Otherwise, they all would've been magically brought back again like nothing happened. Take away the outside context of Shannen's firing, and you have a finale that's, at best, as good as "It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad World." "Deja Vu All Over Again," "Witch Way Now," and "Something Wicca This Way Goes" were all MUCH better finales.

So many things wrong with it, You nailed all the points that made no sense in the episode. The only thing I admire about it, is Shannen and Holly's acting, but even that isn't enough to make me appreciate it fully. I do wonder if All Hells was always intended to be the final, the episode seemed so thrown together, as if Kern was trying to come up with a cliffhanger incase an actress left or firing of Shannen being talked about, and ended an episode that would work both ways in keeping her or removing her, and had a different story in mind to end the season. Cole and his fathers soul ended the cliffhanger in Exit Strategy, as if that could of been the season final storyline.

Well, according to rumours, there was tension between Shannen and Alyssa all through the latter half of S3. There was the possibility that one of them would bolt. However, All Hell Breaks Loose was always planned to end the way it did. They didn't know that Shannen would not be coming back, because, as I said, her firing didn't happen until after the season had ended.
Clearly Kern didn't decide to fire her until then. I mean if he was planning to do it all along, he would have made it clear that Prue was dead at the end of the episode. I'm guessing that he and Shannen had words just before she left for Canada to film her TV Movie. It was then that the coward decided to fire her, when she was thousands of miles away.

The episode wasn't that great written felt very rushed. Kerns handle of Shannen was pure disgusting. He should of had her return for season 4, and both come to a agreement that season 4 would be her last and end on hold terms. Sometimes I pretend that in some alternate universe the real charmed exists one where Shannen wasn't fired and the show ended after 5 seasons with Prue. Haha

About the Dr Griffiths issue: I always thought that the Source only went after him to get to the Charmed Ones; I never thought that it was about the doctor's work, about who he'd saved and who he could save, but that it was just a trap to catch the sisters.

It's been said that AHBL was written specifically the way it was just in case the show lost one of its three leads: YMMV on how much of that is true and how much of it is just network spin. However, it is interesting how any of the three sisters could've been killed off without altering the episode at all--Prue and Piper via wall, Phoebe via Source. Searching around, I came across a REALLY good post Jackie made about this episode back in 2011: Sums my thoughts up perfectly.

Yeah, the whole Dr. Griffiths thing needed to be explained. Why was Shax after him? Was he destined to do something that would help the side of good? No, that was never explained. He was just there, an Ensign Deadmeat character.
Yeah, this was a cliff hanger, but by the time it aired, we all knew who would survive. The story had already broken about Shannen's firing.

The reason why Shannen left was she didn't like where the show was headed and also stated that she was suffering from Colitis.

Nobody is forcing them to talk outside of work. It never showed onscreen they acted great especially once piper was married, both Prue and phoebe had a lot of scenes tigether. Shannen did state she left, in charmed conventions in recent years. Even directing the final she wanted out, but they wrote it in case she stayed. We may never know the real truth. But the media always over blows stories. Maybe there's some truth to it that. I seriously doubt it was ever over Alyssa no way.

Sorry but I am done with the never ending argument about Doherty, Kern, Milano and company: I don’t think that there can be only one truth but a mix of intolerance, after all Doherty was always a wayward person and maybe Spelling was fed up, we can't know and we'll never know I don’t worry about the actors or the producers, I care for Prue: what happened to her that day
Prue was tired, very tired, for too long a time she was worring about the Source’s threat, he was becoming an obsession At the start, it was so simple being a witch : Phoebe foretold a danger for some innocent, they intervened to save him/her, than they were able to go to work or to shop or to a date or to clean the Manor, very pleased with theirselves to have done their job well
Then they had drawn the attention of powerful demons and their life had become complicated and dangerous Prue was tired and when you are tired easily you do foolish act and mistakes, this’ld explain the reason for the crazy idea to chase Shax, with all the very bad consequences
Why was Shax after the doctor? It’s not so central, IMO it was a trap of the Source
As for Phoebe, she’ldn’t know that she faced an emissary of the Source, not a mere demon and, sure that the spell had worked, she wasright to believe that finally she’ld have the time to help Cole
Who has the main fault of the situation is Penny: without unlocking the powers of girls, sh'ld still train them, teach them to use potions and spells,to deal with risky practices, to work as a team. Witches by chance and inexpert, the sisters have had a short time to learn magic and moreover, because of her decisive nature, Prue was in control - they didn’t act as a team as Piper and Phoebe ‘ll be able to do working with Paige- and Prue was dead tired Not least, the Elders: I don’t like them and in AHBL they are on the sidelines looking at an absolutel disaster without giving not even a little hint It’ld be the end of the Charmed One and they seemed not to care
I always will love Charmed because it's about three women, not three heroines or three Templar of th Good or three superpowered warriors: three women and this was their salvation
The magic, the powers, ok, they are valuable but it was Phoebe’s joyfull behavior that made the magic to steal from the Triad their powerful killer: Cole's help was crucial for the sisters to understand what's going on and it will be to get Tempus to reverse the time
Without a skilled demon on their side for love, without a sweet Whitelighter ready to disobey the Elders for love.that day would have been a catastrophe

About Shannen's layoff, I read years ago that the risk that Shannen was forced to leave Charmed had already presented when the filming of season 3 were in the middle, between late December 2000 and early January 2001, at the time of her arrest. It was only thanks to the extension that she got that she was able to complete the season until April 2001, the month in which, among other things, she changed her statement of innocence in admission of guilt Only Spelling and Shannen knew that this would have serious consequences on her work in Charmed She admitted that in thas period she was very tense and nervous, even on the set and the rest of the staff, including Alyssa and Holly, however, had no idea that such a thing could have happened Then she was sentenced to three years of community work for five days a week but she had risked up to three years in prison
I found an interview of Details Magazine, August 2001,by Brantley Bardiny in which she told that Spelling behaved exactly as he had all of Hollywood and that can crush anyone and anything that got in his way. I found in a Spanish site so I translate "Three years ago he asked me to be the star of his new series on the WB ... wanted me and no one else. I was the main character in the show according to the contract, but suddenly Mr Spelling didn't want this: he wanted that Alyssa was the protagonist because Alyssa Milano is the most beloved and popular American actress, especially among the kids who make up the majority of the audience of the channel WB. Alyssa did'nt want this because she wanted more time for herself, Aaron and the network, however, wanted only to promote Charmed as if Holly I and the rest of the cast count for nothing
The problem was not Alyssa: she first didn't like the situation. The problem was with the network and Aaron , their conception of what was best for the show.
You know what? "she says," I was tired: the lack of appreciation that Aaron is showing for me as a human being and as an actress is really too much. It 's like a big deja vu from BH90210. He doesn't care about my views, my ideas and so on: they wanted a program for boys, is what they got, and well, I've had enough! "
Anyway, I thik as Erikamarie that we'ld debate of Prue, not Shannen, I'm up for Prue
