You pretty much nailed it. AHBL was FAR from a perfect episode, and actually had some pretty glaring errors. We never found out why the Source wanted Dr. Griffiths dead, for example. And, the way the sisters acted in it was just awful, from Phoebe ditching her sisters for Cole while Shax was still at large to Prue and Piper stupidly chasing after Shax in public in broad daylight. And, the only reason the cliffhanger ending had any oomph was because of Shannen's firing forcing them to kill Prue offscreen. Otherwise, they all would've been magically brought back again like nothing happened. Take away the outside context of Shannen's firing, and you have a finale that's, at best, as good as "It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad World." "Deja Vu All Over Again," "Witch Way Now," and "Something Wicca This Way Goes" were all MUCH better finales. I know. So many things wrong with it, You nailed all the points that made no sense in the episode. The only thing I admire about it, is Shannen and Holly's acting, but even that isn't enough to make me appreciate it fully. I do wonder if All Hells was always intended to be the final, the episode seemed so thrown together, as if Kern was trying to come up with a cliffhanger incase an actress left or firing of Shannen being talked about, and ended an episode that would work both ways in keeping her or removing her, and had a different story in mind to end the season. Cole and his fathers soul ended the cliffhanger in Exit Strategy, as if that could of been the season final storyline. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an episode the most glaring issue was why didnt Prue use her telekinesis on either Shax or the doctor. Throwing yourself at it and have it coming to bite you over the arse after when u possess that power is stupid enough by itself LOL

Just thinking outloud. I think its an absolute shame that Shannen Doherty had too much pride to come back to the show AND/OR that Brad Kern or the Network never let her back on or let her go the way they did. Which ever it was. I still can't believe that Shannen and Alyssa haven't resolved the feud after all this time. I mean , even Geri came back to the Spice Girls... because she knew, that Girl Power and the message to all those young girls out there meant more than your own dilemmas. Why couldn't we have had a Season 4, which phased Prue out and bought Paige in? With ghost Prue appearing from time to time throughout the series? I also think that for a show that's all about girl power - that neither Shannen or Alyssa learned anything about putting your personal bitchiness issues aside and not letting a production crew and a fan base down because of your own personal grievances. It just makes me mad because I thought Charmed was going to be the best show ever, or at least UP THERE and that's the direction it was heading in toward the end of Season 3. I think I have withdrawals everyday

Where do you get the idea that they haven't? I thought they did almost a decade ago when Alyssa was starting "Romantically Challenged" and Shannen was on "Dancing with the Stars" and they both tweeted the others to wish each other luck.

Very true Es - I'm sure they both have moved on and *grown up*. That was over a decade ago. Lets be real - *nobody* is forced to be BFF with former co-workers. I'm sure they are never going to go out for coffee anytime soon - but are on good terms enough to comment and post the odd friendly message on social media dears.

Shannen fully expected to be returning for S4 in July, but was given a pink slip a few days before 'AHBL' was released: 5/11/01 This week's Soap Opera Weekly interviews CHARMED Executive Producer Brad Kern in an effort to confirm the rumors behind Alyssa's said departure from the series in her on-the-set battles with co-star Shannen Doherty. "Nothing I've been told from the people that I work for indicates whatsoever that anybody's leaving the show," Kern says of the rumor that Milano wants off and that her character will be killed. "Alyssa and Shannen are professionals. Are they best friends? No. Do they have to be? No. Do they work well together? Yeah. They're sisters in character only. They come in and do their job well. That's all that matters to us." May 15, 2001 - Shannen Doherty has mysteriously walked away from Charmed - and nobody's saying why. Many had speculated this would be Alyssa, though the future of the show appears now in limbo. May 15, 2001 - Lin Milano confirmed reports on Shannen leaving Charmed telling the Safe Searching message boards, "I wanted you all to know that it is true Shannen is gone from Charmed. We were all very surprised and wish her good luck in all her endeavors." Read more: thecharmedcafe.proboards.com/thread/11625/archive-news-chronology-scenes-stuff#ixzz4pZyVwGdf

Just saw this on another site and I had to share: AMEN!!! AMEN!!! This sounds about right. Wouldn't surprise me at all, that the others writers who supported Connie's ideas (e.g Sheryl, Chris, and Zack) were also let go, or quit in protest of those two being fired and leaving too.

My guess is that they were also fired so that Kern could do the whole thing his way. Although I have a hunch Shannen being fired would've been enough for Sheryl to call quits since Prue always seemed to be her favorite character - mine, too, WHEN Sheryl was writing her.

They were great at writing for the three of them. Morality Bites, Pre-Witched and P3 H20 just to name a few. Too bad we lost so many good ones.

I just don't think getting rid of Shannen would've caused Chris and Zach to call quits. Now Connie either quitting or being fired and seeing what Kern was going to do with the sisters in S3 was probably enough for them to quit - those weren't the sisters they liked writing about, especially when they forgot all about The Wrong Things Done for the Wrong Reason is Still the Wrong Thing.

You're probably right about that Es. Chris and Zack wrote Morality Bites too, so I'm sure they were not too pleased with S3 at all and the direction. Too bad, I wished they were put in charge of Charmed and not Kern.

I am also convinced that Shannen was fired because she wanted too much to direct the show and that she was a woman. I hate them so much. I don't like Piper's explanation that Leo chose Piper because she was his wife. I find it ridiculous that Leo doesn't have enough power to heal them both. This further reinforces the idea that Season 4 begins in a parallel world as Phoebe is there, The Source turns black, Shax turns blue, and the powers of whitelighter are transmitted. I just wish Piper would say that Prue was already dead. Better yet, Piper or Phoebe would be the killed sister, but Prue made a deal with the angel to take her soul instead (offscreen). She would be honored.

I could see that if he was delayed and they were both closer to death and he needed to use his whole power on one sister, but they never explained that. The way Piper said it made it seem like the first time around he could heal two people at once, and the second time he couldn't. I like the idea of Prue making the trade of her life for Piper or Phoebe's. Maybe that way her character could still be used with the spirit board or something because it was more of a conscious decision of hers.

Yes they do skip an entire sequence of events, but Prue was shown on the ground unconscious with Piper with blood coming from the back of her head. So one can assume that she suffered a fatal crack to the skull and instantly died. They just don't show Piper being healed and Leo discovering that his powers are not working on Prue. Basically they just needed a way to write Shannon out as she was discontinuing the show due according to most evidence being fired for one reason or another. So I guess they figured just get the point across and move on. Although I would have very much like to have seen those in between events as well as Victor being informed of the tragedy. In fact for those reading my fic Afterlife I am planning to write them up in either a Prologue or cut scene(I haven't decided yet). Do you still have that fanfic?

Prue dying is the reason I wish Charmed had been an animated series instead. No drama of behind the scenes and Prue could have lived and maybe Piper would have a daughter instead of Wyatt. Nothing against Wyatt or Chris but the Charmed generation could be continued with women.
