Bumping this thread up. But I found it so very fascinating to read. These points made, I found the most interesting in the discussion.
Then when I joined the Cafe during S6 and found out that Shannen and Julian were dating during S3 (and Alyssa and Brian were...), I found myself wishing that it had gone this way even more.
Much as I love the idea of Cole going after the most vulernable sister, the youngest, had he done that but still ended up falling for Prue, I would've enjoyed it a lot more.
I did get that sense too. Shannen and Julian had very great chemistry.
Maybe they could have given Phoebe the parts with Brendan Rowe in season one, Bane in season two, and Tom the ex boyfriend in season three to show her falling into those seemingly dangerous situations as you expect the youngest to do, and then have Prue fall for the person who would lead them into far more danger than the others did. It would be a reversal of the normal characterizations you expect.
Wouldn't that have been great, to have given Phoebe those love interests. It felt more natural that Phoebe wouldn't become attached to a longterm partner given she was only a 23 or 24 year old woman in the earlier seasons. Maybe that would be the journey, that she grows as a person and finally gets her real long term love interest later on.
I find it adds more depth to Prue, since she was the oldest and always suppose to be the one looking out for her sisters and being responsible, that being tempted by Cole and the dark side. Really is a story progression that would made the most sense.
Because Phoebe being tempted into danger and the dark side, was already dealt with earlier on. That it being Prue just feels like something you wouldn't expect and something that leaves the power of three very vulnerable with the leader of the Charmed Ones going to the dark side.
Can you imagine how Piper and Phoebe would cope if Prue was queen of the underworld? That feels more interesting than even Prue being alive to see Phoebe turn. What if the sisters had to vanquish Prue to save the world or stop her, and this is how Paige was introduced after?
Both had a snarky sense of humor. Both were paranoid. Both had reserved personalities. Both had a tendency to be the lone wolf without consulting the help of others. Both tend to be controlling. Prue controlled her sisters too much for my tastes. Cole tend to attempt to control a situation when it was not called for (his return to the Thorn Brotherhood in an attempt to ensure they would not bother him in the future is a prime example). Both tend to hold their emotions in, until something causes them to finally snap.
I guess I'm not into couples who share similar personality traits.
Yeah she really seemed more mature enough to handle it. Not Phoebe, she wasn't emotionally ready to handle it at the age of 24 and 25.
But I didn't think about it like that with them being so similar.
That really makes the most interesting sense, and the best way for her character to evolve and come into conflict with those issues. It really felt so cliche to pair Phoebe with Cole, going after the youngest is just so predictable. Storywise it felt like a direction that made more sense with Prue.
I started considering it during the first time I watched "The Good, The Bad and the Cursed". There was *such* chemistry between Prue and Cole, something I'd never really sensed between Phoebe and Cole, and I already didn't like the way my then-favorite sister (Phoebe) was regressing into someone I no longer liked. That continued into S4 and S5.

I think the idea of Cole going after the baby of the family is an interesting story line, but the idea of him going after the oldest is more interesting. It's an idea that hasn't been done a lot before. Of course it was interesting to watch how things unfolded between the conflicted bad guy and the naive youngest. But with the character of Prue, I think it would have been even more fun to watch.

I think that of all the sisters, Prue was the one who seemed mature enough to handle a romance with a half-demon like Cole. Unfortunately, she and Cole had shared many personality quirks that that seemed a bit too similar for my tastes.

Thats how I wouldve preferred it in the long run of things. It wouldve been a big storyline and change for Prue since she probably saw demonic things more black and white more than Piper and Phoebe did, so it wouldve put her in that grey area that she would hate to come to terms with.
