Charmed Comic Is Coming 2010

I hope the storylines are good but either way im gonna check them out.

Yep, I started a thread about this back in March: Charmed is Set to Return..., but thank you very much for the update.

Although *sigh* looking at the cover, it sounds like they want to concentrate on the part of Charmed that I hated the most--they're gonna be three demon-hunters who happen to be living in the same manor rather than three sisters who happen to be witches.

Oh, well.

Thats nice, though I still have my doubts about this comic since just look at the cover. Phoebe is in skimpy clothes and big boobs. ANd ofcourse it wont be in continuity most likely. But I will read it when it comes out to see how good it is.

We were discussing this at another site and a couple things really bother us. The new symbol in the background, a triangle rather than a triquetra (although there is one on the book in the other illustration, so we hope the triquetra will still be their symbol) and the fact that if that's Phoebe in the middle, what's that in her hands? Piper has her hands spread, like she's using one of her powers and Paige has an orb in her hand. So what does Phoebe have in hers?

Holy cow! I am so buying the first issue and hoping they don't do it à la Charmed novels! Because if the girls start launching fireballs out of the blue, I think I'm going to throw the comic at someone's head... ehe.

Also, I really do hope that that strange pyramidal triquetra thingie isn't going to be their new symbol and that it -- and the strange powers Phoebe and Paige display -- are all linked to their Valkyrie-esque outfits...

Amen. If the girls become superheroines rather than The Charmed Ones, I won't be happy.

I can certainly see the concern. I went to the site and got a closer look at that cover. The triangle does have the triquetra in it, but that's still weird and there are two of those triangles. And I think Piper is wearing a necklace with the triquetra in the triangle.

The look that could be the girls using powers they don't have it worrisome. I haven't seen all the Charmed episodes yet, but I don't remember Paige having actual orbs in her hand the way some demons had fireballs or energyballs. And Phoebe's hands remind me of the power that killed Cal Greene, which while hers in that one episode. And I don't know what Piper is doing, but it doesn't look anything like what she did for her powers, more like she's trying to keep a wall from closing in, but completely unworried about it.

And then of course there is the clothes . . . sad. We don't want them to dress like that, nor do with think Piper (at the very least during this point in her life) would. At least I don't think so. Again, I haven't seen a lot of later episodes.

I think the words at the bottom saw something to the effect of "Casting all new spells Summer 2010 from Zenoscope Entertainment". The back definitely says "Summer 2010 from Zenoscope". Definitely a triquetra on the back, too.

So far, I will most likely at least look at the first comic when it appears. If it looks like it might be all right I will put out the money to buy it, but I'm not buying until I'm sure I'm not helping perpetuate the continuation of a problem. I want Charmed back, but I want it to be Charmed the way I loved it.

I didn't notice their hands at first, but now that I take a second look, it looks like her hand is lit up and yellow. Could this potentially be her electrokinesis from "Morality Bites"?

And as far as the rest of the cover is concerned, I hate that Phoebe is in the middle! And her big breasts and skimpy clothes really disgust me. That's something they easily could've dropped from the real series, but instead they seem to have made it worse.

And the triangle is very strange. It reminds me of the Rowe Coven from season one: their symbol was a triangle.

A witch can invoke with a spell, the fireballs (magic energy etc) she wants, on Charmedverse has been seen many times, even once Phoebe invoked fire.

Since there is no mention of Shannen Doherty, I'm 99.9% sure that Prue won't be part of this.

Phoebe shot fire when she was under the Seer's spell. That's the only way such stuff works in the Charmedverse.

I really like to see PRUE in there. But it seems Es is right. Anyway I'll check it out still just to know but if there's no Prue won't be totally excited though.

Until now ever since Prue died.. it's as if she never was a part of their lives. And we know who to blame for that matter!!!

I like the second cover better, but why does it look like Piper is summoning vines.

Also I remember the artist saying wants he was given pictures of the Charmed Ones so he knew what they looked like. Most likely since the artist was given pictures of the girls from later seasons he would have drawn Phoebe in a skimpy outfit.

The art might not affect the storyline.

That one picture that is suppose to be similar to the Season 8 DVD cover looks just awful, and I see what you mean about Piper, none of them look like HMC. Although, they do get Rose's butt chin perfect.

The thing is, most artists would say that HMC is the easiest to draw. Alyssa is the most difficult as she has no real defining features, unlike Holly (and most obviously, Shannen).

The original series followed sisters Piper, Phoebe and Prue as they protect innocents in San Francisco from evil witches and warlocks. When Prue was eventually killed in the show, half-sister Paige was brought into the magic-fighting fold.

"The series starts off about a year or so after the end of the last season," Gregory said. "The sisters are each off living their lives. They have had their well-deserved happily ever. But what they don't realize is that there might have been some serious consequences for vanquishing all that evil. Something is brewing in the Underworld. Something big!"

ENLARGE The acquisition of this series is a bit of a coup for the indie publisher, which has previously worked on licensed comics for the Se7en and Final Destination franchises. "Anybody will be able to pick up this series and follow it whether or not they ever watched the show before," Zenescope Editor-in-Chief Ralph Tedesco said when the series was first announced.

Handling the art duties for Charmed is The Wanderers's Dave Hoover. "His storytelling is really top notch," Gregory said. "He's done some pages so far that are just amazing. He can bring a character to life like no one else."

Of course, with the sisters' continuity, the writers were a bit coy with who was their favorite of the Charmed girls. "It has to be a toss up between Prue and Phoebe," Gregory said. "The character dynamic between the two was really fun. The older, cynical, overbearing sister versus the younger, more naive and outgoing younger sibling was always cool to watch. Too bad Prue's gone, eh, Paul?" To which Ruditis replied coyly: "Is anyone ever really gone?"

"It's always cool to see another writer dissect a story. Seeing their method behind the madness," Gregory said. "I always try to approach each story as something brand new and fresh and with a style that while my own, is always different and striving to be unique. With Paul, he makes that seem easy and exciting which makes my job that much more fun which I think is where the best writing comes from. When you're having fun."

"The thing about being involved with the Charmed publishing program over several years is that you start to think very specifically about what can and cannot be done in that universe. Raven brings in a fresh voice, constantly asking me why don’t we do this? Why don’t we do that? It really opens up my view of their universe in new and fresh ways."



ENLARGE For the writing team, Charmed is a high-profile stop on the midst of their other creative works -- Ruditis is currently in the midst of working on an as-yet-unannounced licensed novel series, while Gregory is working on a creator-owned series with Rex Mundi's Eric J called Fly, along with finishing his zombie cop series The Waking as well as a story in Dynamite Entertainment's Red Sonja #50.

Currently, there's no word as to whether or not the original cast -- Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Shannen Doherty -- will be involved in the book aside from their likenesses appearing, but Gregory confirmed that Zenescope would be working closely with CBS in terms of final approval for all the books. But Gregory said that for him, the humanity behind the magic is what sets Charmed apart as a viable franchise. "At the center of this story you have these three strong independent women dealing with the immense responsibility of being the Charmed ones," he explained. "Seeing how they develop and grow and still find time to stay close as a family I think is something that most people can relate to and find comforting."
