CBS is considering a Charmed Reboot, a re-imagining of the series with four sisters rather than three. variety.com/2013/tv/news/charmed-is-being-rebooted-by-cbs-1200762470/ I'm not happy about this at all. I'd much prefer a reunion movie over a re-imagining, which would probably be about as successful as the re-boot of "Charlie's Angels". What about you? What do you think? The only good thing about it is it won't be about the kids... And the ones who produced Party of Five is doing it. I wonder if they'll make the girls teenagers rather than women. *shudder* Sure hope Cole isn't part of it! I hope they keep out ANYONE who takes the emphasis away from the sisters - Cole, Chris, Billie....

When I first saw the news, I was beyond excited. I'm all for a reboot than seeing the Charmed at its worst living on in a spin-off or continuation. While Season 9 comics were awesome and I do wish we get some kind of reunion, one where Prue and Paige to finally meet, I still want a reboot, and everything that went wrong with Charmed done right. Or as close to right. With the amount of Charmed fanfics and rewrites, not to mentioning whining and complaining about the show’s later seasons, I would say almost everyone out there wants some kind of reboot.
I didn't know what Party of Five was and looks like they did a show about siblings and family and their struggles, etc. Went on for six seasons. So that's good. It looks like the new Charmed just might be focusing on sisters who’re witches rather than the other way around. So I’m gamed

The reboot sounds terrible. I don't know why they just wouldn't make a next generation instead.

For the exact reason that Cyma said - if it was a spin-off, they'd have to stick to the same rules and inconsistencies that the original had. Much better to start fresh, only go for three or four years, and then do a spin-off - WITHOUT a too-powerful Wyatt!

Although it would be an interesting thing if the "what if Paige was never adopted out and grew up with her sisters?" was answered.

Would it? Don't you think she'd resent her sisters when they became Charmed and she didn't? Unless they do a Power of Four thing, in which case Paige would probably just be another daughter of Victor and Patty's, because if there's already three full-sisters, there'd be no reason for her to be part of it.
Also, I've discovered that I may have read that article wrong - it may just be talking about the original show which ended up being about four sisters, in which case they'd start with three.
I sure hope so.
The other thing others are discussing is that it could be about the three sisters as teenagers, since the show is being produced by the ones who did Party of Five.
Even though I wouldn't watch a second (Don't like shows about teenaged angst - that just makes me roll my eyes, the way that Jenny, Chris and Billie always did.), I think it would be the best way to do a reboot, since then it wouldn't be compared to the original as much but be a totally different show. Also, they could get away with others playing the sisters besides the original.
Personally, I hope this idea goes away and instead they decide to do a sequel like they did for 90210. I heard that Holly's character has been written out of Pretty Little Liars. If Piper could be part of a sequel (with her own kids still young and not part of it, only as extras), helping other witches learn the craft, the way Jenny Garth portrayed an older Kelly helping the students, I think that would have the best chance to succeed.
I'd prefer Paige doing that, but I'd be shocked if Rose decided to come back to Charmed.

At that point it would become a power of four thing or Paige would have a whitelighter and be destined all on her own but intertwined with her sisters. Of course, I much enjoy the idea of Piper and her kids however I'd be shocked if they actually went that direction. I know nothing about 90210 though. I think a next generation would be the best idea with either like you said, Piper and her kids or all of the kids.

I'll continue to insist that a series about Charmed: The Next Generation would be the worst idea. Nine stars is much too many, especially if you add any extras. That's why I'd want Piper's kids to still be young.
In 90210, it's 20 years later and Kelly is now a counselor at Beverly Hills High. Her younger sister is at the school, but otherwise everyone is new. That's what I think would make the best continuation.

Nine characters would be too many. I think that in order to do that well you would need to focus on a set of siblings (preferably the next Po3)and the others would be reoccurring or supporting characters. Alternatively, the kids are in magic school and its set when Leo returns as headmaster. However, then it creates a teen show at school. Another option is that a set of siblings/cousins now work at magic school and have taken over for Leo. They must protect the school from magical encounters.

That's part of the reason why you *don't* want a next generation one. If you do the next Po3 (Phoebe's three daughters), it would be exactly like the original and all of those stories were already used up.
That's why starting all over makes so much more sense. Imagine Piper enjoying magic because the stupid personal gain power isn't so strict but is truly, "Harm none, do what ye will". Do that sort of story for three or four seasons and then hop to a Next Generation that doesn't include a too-powerful Wyatt (the reason why there's no way I'd want it to be about Piper's kids, nor would I want one about the Unchanged Future because there's too many fanfics that were done so well - no way a TV show could do as well) and hopefully only one or two kids per sister, so it would be more manageable. Kern had it be three per sister in order to be sure he was closing the door on Charmed. If you want to reopen it, you'd have to do it differently, and that's what they're doing.

I think they will definitely have some of the girls back for this re-imagining. Especially since they are already using it as a promotion, obviously people would tune in to see the original cast. Es, Jenny and Shannen were the reason I started watching the remake of 90210, and I thought that they were the best part by far! I really can't see Rose coming back at all, and if they could find a way to work Shannen in for an episode, that would be cool. Holly and Alyssa would definitely come back, and it would be nice to see Grams and Patty back too, and even Elise. Other than those people, I really have no interest in seeing them bring anyone else back

I'm interested to see what they do here as long as they concentrate on the key thing here which is the bond between the sisters.
I would like to see them build a stronger mythology, establish continuity and create a more serious tone with this reboot as I feel when the show was darker, more serious, it was at it's best. S3+4 are evidence of how strong Charmed can be and I felt how the show tackled death was particularly poignant.
If they decide to go with four sisters, which I can't see why they would after all The Power of Three was a big part of the show, I don't think I'll bother with it.
This reboot has the opportunity to really flourish as I felt the original series suffered due to the fact that it was born at a time where these shows were the bread and butter of our TV schedules and Charmed became overshadowed by the likes of Buffy. Shows like Charmed aren't around right now so there is definitely a gap in the market.

I'm not happy about a reboot. If I want Charmed, I'll go pull out my DVDs or tune into TNT. Thanks.

I don't even do that. I find one of my favorite fanfics. Fans did Charmed so much better than Kern ever did and I can imagine the originals playing their roles - I can even imagine Drew and Rose doing a great job playing Chris and Paige! And if not, I'll read the stuff written by the ultimate Charmed fan - the comics. For me, that will always be Season 9, no matter what happens.
I can't imagine anyone else playing Prue besides Shannen, Piper besides Holly or Phoebe besides Alyssa (I can imagine others playing Paige...) unless they made them totally different characters. I'm hoping that IF we get stuck with the reboot, Prue will be the product of Patty's affair with a demon and when Paige releases their powers, it's the three full sisters - Piper, Phoebe and Paige - who become Charmed with Prue (whose demonic powers are also released) their archenemy! That would make it different enough to stand on its own and I wouldn't mind others playing them as much. I can also hope that Leo and Cole never show up...that's also what would make it different enough that others playing the sisters would be okay.
BUT I'm really hoping that this doesn't go through and instead all of the reaction to this and the fact that right now Charmed is the most watched show on Netflix - take that, Buffy fans - that's the reason they want a Charmed reboot and not Buffy! - shows that there's enough interest by the fans so that there's a reunion TV movie featuring the originals (including Brian and Julian) instead.
Aaron Spelling is gone, so no one would stop Shannen from being part of it. Alyssa and Shannnen made up years ago. Holly is no longer part of PLL. All four have said they'd be part of a movie.
Please, CBS, forget the reboot and do the movie! Give us fans true closure.
And, PLEASE, CBS, leave Connie Burge and Brad Kern out of it and let Paul Ruditis who wrote the comics write the script!

A reboot sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't know the whole outcome yet. Okay, four sisters instead of three which would collide with the original concept by Constance Burge. Yet I think we should see at first what will come out. I'd take a look first and then decide.

I may just have to re-read the comic but I could've sworn that was the case.

This reboot would have less to do with the comics than it does with the original series - the kids in it would not be part of the reboot. The only kid who didn't have powers was Paige and Henry's adopted son, Henry Jr.
Parker didn't have any because everyone who had powers no longer did and everyone who didn't have powers now did - the reason Prue became Prue Almighty and Darryl came back to save the Charmed Ones!

I think Alyssa and Shannen would feel obligated to come back if they asked them. I think Charmed is the perfect distance away to have some sort of a reboot!

a reboot on charmed is ok (the most i can tolerate because of other actors playing the sisters), but to star all four sisters are ridiculous. the main theme of charmed is THE POWER OF THREE. so what is the point of the show if all four sisters showing up? 3 sisters using P03 while another sister stand there and watch them using it? certainly that sister will feel that she is neglected! i like to see 3 sisters in action, not four. that ruin the whole thing about charmed. p.s so lets say both piper and phoebe have to choose which sister (prue/paige) in order to activate po3. dont you guys think that piper and phoebe will having a hard time which sister to choose? if choosing prue (because she is their oldest sister, not to mention prue have taken care of piper and phoebe for whole life), paige certainly will feel she is an outsider(half-sister). if choosing paige instead of prue, prue feels that is she forgotten, because she is the original power of three.
