I don't think Phoebe's selfish only at certain times though! Certain times I'd be mad at her for doing something selfish but, Phoebe is an awesome character!

I believe that her grams bears all the fault for this, its a flaw that goes back to Phoebe's child years.
Phoebe really never had a mother figure, she only had her grams who did not do that well parenting them, she just kept
casting spells on all of them to keep them in control.
She was actually a terrible role model for them and due to the lack of parenting, this drove Phoebe into becoming a wild
uncontrollable teenager.
Then when Prue also began to hate her, Phoebe just didn't care any more and just wanted to get out of there.
But in New York she found peace in her soul and eventually returned to San Francisco with that small remaining flaw
that she is selfish sometimes.

I dont really think its selfishness so to speak, all she wanted was for him not to kill anyone anymore, i dont think that is too much to ask...yes fair enough he is a demon and that is what he has been known to do his whole life but he didnt want to hurt anyone anymore either, he just couldnt control his demonic half at time.. He wanted to be good just as much and she wanted him to, so she was trying to help him by inforcing the law so to speak lol. Its not as though she forced him to make that choice..They fell in love then she discovered he was a demon she tried to end it but he kept pushing and wanted to be with her saying that he would change for her, it was al his idea pretty much so you cant blame Phoebe for being selfish when she was trying to help Cole.

Cole only added more to what Phoebe already had as a small flaw from her teen years.
He pushed Phoebe over the edge where her selfishness became stronger.
No wonder with all what he put her threw.

breaking up with cole was not selfish. how is that selfish?
getting together with cole WAS selfish. she lied to her sisters about him (a powerful demon linked with the source) putting their lives in danger. all for the sake of having a crush (at that stage of the relationship)
now THAT was selfish

I agree. When Phoebe was with Cole she acted more selfish than many other times in her life. Phoebe lied to her sisters more times when she was with Cole than any other time during the run of the season.

Phoebe was in love with Cole, love makes you do stupid things and if being in love made her selfish than nearly every person in the world is selfish. Phoebe was just doing what she thought was best - even if it wasn't.
Phoebe was never really selfish but she wasn't selfless either - which apparently we believe the sisters should be. NEWSFLASH - they're all selfish. No one can be selfless. Someone can not be selfish as the person standing next them - but everyone is selfish at least once in their life. It's in our human nature to look out for the welfare of oneself rather than the neighbour sitting next to us.
Phoebe was no more selfish than Piper or Paige. Prue was the nearest to being selfless but again - she wasn't. Yes Phoebe was selfish with magic but turning reporters in rats isn't?

No she never knew her sisters were in mortal danger when she was leaving them, she knew Shax didn't the need the Power of Three, which he didn't - so she assumed they would be okay. It's no the first two of the sisters have been left alone to fight off a demon.
Piper left Prue and Phoebe is Season One, yes she knew nothing about Jackson at the time but it's a similar situation to Phoebe's.
What I'm saying is what she did was selfish - as I said earlier - she was in love, had it been Leo, Piper would of done the same.

I can sorta understand why she lied to her sisters. My highschool sweetheart, my family didn't think he was good for me at ALL.
I admit, I lied about seeing him during school, pretended it was another friend, & at times, I did a three way so if my mom wanted to hear the voice of who I was talking to, my female friend would start talking. I did that for 2yrs. 16yrs old to 18yrs old.
They turned out they were right, but I thought I was in love. So I can see why Phoebe did that. She didn't believe he hurt her or her sisters. If she believed in her heart he hurt them, she wouldn't of let him go free. So she didn't exactly put there lives in danger.

If you're talking about Phoebe lieing about vanquishing Cole, then I can respond but if not then ignore this and state more clearly what you ar "bull"ing about. Phoebe DID put their lives in danger. She could not have said with 100% certainty that Cole would not try to kill them again or harm another innocent again. He was a demon for over a 100 years and that's what demons did. Falling in love changed him, but Phoebe knew for all of...what..maybe 30 minutes he was the demon who had tried religiously to kill them prior to and she used that amount of time to judge letting him wonder free? That is selfish behavior because like it or not, Phoebe had no proof that Cole had changed and he could have simply been manipulating her in order to escape, come back and try again. |
