Problem is many shows drag after the initial story is over. If we go by format 1 season = 22/23 episodes. Then imo 5 seasons should be perfect amount. Unless you have really talented team working on the show and are able to keep it fresh and not ruin previous seasons. But even then I would go for max 2/3 more seasons.
There is a reason Friends ended when they did. Instead of milking the franchise. They ended it on a high note.
Same with Supernatural season 5 although I still love it. My way with Supernatural if I ever decided to re-watch it that is. Watch S1-5. Cut last 5 min from the last episode in S5. And for the rest of seasons I might watch some cool scenes on yt.

Coming from the gaming community and being a part of other online fandoms, it's just part of the package. The online community is usually going to be negative. This isn't just with Charmed. I've seen it with other shows, movies, video games (like I said), etc., too. I try to be positive but have learned to shrug off the negativity, as it's EVERYWHERE. Most of the more positive conversations are offline. And, I find it funny that outside of the online Charmed community, the favorites are completely backwards.
The online Charmed community loves Prue and hate Phoebe. Offline, Phoebe is loved and Prue is hated. It's amusing, for me ;P
But yeah, most online communities are normally negative despite the claim that they "love" the series/movie/game. It is what it is.

I've often wondered why this is - why online loves Prue and offline loves Phoebe. I know about 5~ people who watch Charmed who aren't involved in the online community and they all love Phoebe and Prue. My mother is the only one I know who really doesn't like Prue. My thing is I really do love all the sisters but for different reasons. Prue is probably my least favorite Character but I still love her for the dynamic she brought to the show. It is hard for me to separate the sisters like this because the thing I loved mostly was their relationships with each other.

I know how much they loved Cole during S3 and S4. I guess I've had the opposite experience I remember how much the online community hated Prue back in the day. Maybe the online community have grown to like Prue more or as the fandom ages they can understand Prue more. But really who cares what online or offline thinks of the show and characters. We can all love whoever we like. I never let the opinions of others affect my viewing of the show. The same way I don't let the actresses in real life affect how I feel about the characters.

I will say the negativity on video game forums is a million times worse than anything the Charmed community can even dream of. I have a backbone for this sort of thing. That, and I'm always the oddball, anyway lol Doesn't matter what/where it is ;P

There's your casual fan right? They like the show but just watch it with their brains turned off.
Then there's your diehards...they've rewatched it countless times. Talk about it endlessly. Dissect it.
That's where the difference comes in imo between "online/offline"

I think it just boils down to which character people relate to the most. I probably relate to Prue the least which is why she is my least favourite. But I am really not a Prue hater (call me out if I am though haha). Prue is perhaps the most "specific" characterization in the show which is maybe where fans are polarized. Regardless I still love Prue and the show wouldn't have been the same without her. For awhile I was on a Buffy message board and let me tell you - THAT place was toxic. It was rife with political opinions. The conversation often shifted to US politics which I didn't ever understand. There were so many right wing people and I didn't understand why they watched Buffy - a show which centered women as the holders of ultimate power. It was weird that they loved Buffy but then would say they would never vote for a woman for political office... Strange. I've said this before but it's also strange to be involved in US political conversations when I am not in the USA - I think the media coverage of American politics is different outside of the USA than it is inside of it.

I hate when the conversation shifts to US politics. But as a non-American I know how different the media coverage of American politics is here. US politics is so different compared to the rest of the world. It feels like its never ending. I don't get their system. But anyway back to Charmed. I think it comes down to just who fans relate to the most. I've often seen some tend to mix up actor with character, and their hate for a character comes from hating the actor.

When the conspiracy theories on the actors personal lives get dragged through the mud year after year. Who hates who and old tabloid stuff. It must be exhausting for the cast to see it brought up online years on still.
I find Phoebe's the most hated sister online. While Prue and Piper have lots of love.
I find Prue has gained more love and appreciation over the years and Shannen seems to be be appreciated more than she was in the 90s/00s.
